Zhao Yulan's face turned pale and then flushed.

She stared at her own face, contorted with anger, on the screen, listening to the harsh voice coming from the speakers.

"This...this is edited! It's fake!" she screamed. "You can't believe this! This is slander!"

"Slander?" Chen Lang finally turned around.

He walked to the screen and poked at the most suffocating message on it.

"This WeChat message was sent at 8:47 PM tonight, thirteen minutes before the incident."

He then pointed to the phone recording.

"This recording is from 8:52 PM tonight. Eight minutes before the incident."

Chen Lang turned his head and looked at Zhao Yulan.

"From the time your daughter stood on the bridge until she let go and jumped, a total of twenty minutes passed."

"In those twenty minutes, she received twenty-three WeChat messages with exclamation marks from you. She also received seven phone calls from you."

"Each one was a noose that strangled her."

Chen Lang paused, a cold smile curving his lips.

"Now you're talking to me about defamation?"

"You, you're talking nonsense!" Zhao Yulan's lips trembled, but she couldn't find the words to refute it.

The irrefutable evidence was playing on the screen, so high-definition that you could clearly see the timestamp of each WeChat message sent.

The veteran police officer stepped forward.

"Comrade Zhao Yulan," his voice was cold and heavy, "your current actions are suspected of subjecting the victim to secondary psychological trauma."

"According to the relevant provisions of the Public Security Administration Punishment Law and the Anti-Domestic Violence Law," he said, emphasizing each word.

"If the victim explicitly refuses, and you continue to harass, coerce, or force them to resume a 'family relationship' in any form, the police will have the right to take coercive measures."

"Including but not limited to, initiating an investigation into your long-term psychological abuse."

The last few words sent a shiver down Zhao Yulan's spine.

"I...I'm her mother!" her voice trembled. "It's my right to discipline my own daughter!"

"Discipline?" The veteran police officer pointed at the screen. "Forcing a child to jump off a bridge, is that discipline?"

"You're trying to kill her."

Zhao Yulan fell completely silent.

She stood there, her fingers gripping the Birkin bag so tightly that her knuckles turned white.

The champagne-colored suit looked particularly ironic under the stark white lights of the police station.

The hall was eerily quiet.

Only on the screen, the image of Shen Qingci standing by the bridge continued to loop silently.

The young police officers turned their faces away.

Some people couldn't even bear to watch anymore.

The veteran police officer paused for a moment, then turned toward the bench.

"Shen Qingci," his tone softened, "you'll stay here tonight. We'll arrange for a female police officer to accompany you."

"Your mother cannot take you with her for the time being."

The dark shadow moved slightly.

The two hands that were gripping the hem of Chen Lang's coat slowly loosened.

"Stay here? What right does she have to stay here!"

Zhao Yulan not only didn't leave, but her voice became shrill and piercing, completely tearing away the facade of respectability.

"Officers, this is illegal detention! I'm telling you, my husband is Shen Jianguo from Jiangcheng Hongyuan Building Materials! He'll be here soon!"

She pointed at Chen Lang, her features contorted.

"If you dare take her out of this door today, you'll be committing child trafficking! I'll make sure you spend the rest of your life in jail!"

She grabbed Shen Qingci's coat and pulled it out with all her might.

"Come back with me! You shameless ingrate! You survived your jump off the bridge, and now you want to embarrass me at the police station?"

"Do you know what the neighbors will think of me tomorrow? You've completely embarrassed me!"

Shen Qingci stumbled as she was pulled.

Her pale face was completely bloodless, and she lowered her head again.

"Snapped!"

Chen Lang grabbed Zhao Yulan's wrist with his other hand and flung her away.

Zhao Yulan twisted her high heels and fell awkwardly onto the cold floor tiles.

"Auntie, as I just said," Chen Lang looked down at her with an extremely cold gaze, "her life is now under my control."

"If you touch her one more time, I guarantee you'll not only be on the social news tomorrow, but also on the legal channel."

"You—!" Zhao Yulan was so angry that she trembled all over and raised her hand to slap Chen Lang across the face.

"That's enough!"

With a shout, the veteran police officer stepped forward and grabbed Zhao Yulan's wrist.

"Ms. Zhao, this is the police station! If you continue to cause trouble, I'll issue you an arrest warrant right now! Xiao Li, please remove her!"

Two young police officers immediately stepped forward.

They half-dragged, half-carried Zhao Yulan, who was still throwing a tantrum and cursing, out of the hall.

The glass door shook a few times, finally blocking out the ear-piercing noise.

The veteran police officer rubbed his temples and looked at Chen Lang.

"Young man, you should go home too. Consider it a good deed tonight; we'll take your statement later. But that woman doesn't seem like she'll let it go easily, so be careful."

"Okay, thank you, officer," Chen Lang replied readily.

He walked back to the bench and squatted down again.

"Can you walk?" he asked.

A muffled "hmm" came from under the coat.

Chen Lang turned his back and squatted down slightly.

"Come up."

There was a few seconds of silence.

A pair of icy hands gently rested on his shoulders.

Chen Lang steadily carried her on his back and walked out of the police station.

As they passed the duty station, a young police officer couldn't help but lower his voice and ask.

"Brother Lang... no, Chen Lang, where did you get your livestreaming equipment from?"

Chen Lang didn't stop walking; he turned his head to the side.

Ask Red Bull.

"what?"

"Sponsored."

The young police officer looked completely bewildered.

Chen Lang had already walked out of the police station without anyone on his back.

A night breeze swept over us, dispersing the stale air in the hall.

The night in Jiangcheng is still long.

He carried Shen Qingci on his back and had just walked down the steps in front of the police station.

"Are you hungry?" he asked.

A very soft "Mmm" came from inside the clothes.

Chen Lang laughed: "Come on, I'll take you to eat some local food."

Before the words were finished, a staggering dark figure suddenly rushed out from the shadow of the streetlight.

"Qingci..."

He was a middle-aged man.

His hair was disheveled, his shirt buttons were askew, he was drenched in cold sweat, and he was clutching a cell phone with its screen still lit up.

On the phone screen, the live replay of Chen Lang falling from a height of sixty meters while holding Shen Qingci was frozen in time.

The man's eyes were bloodshot.

When he saw the thin figure wrapped in a large coat on Chen Lang's back, his legs suddenly went weak.

With a "thump".

He knelt on the rough cement floor.

"Qingci... Dad is late..."

The man reached out his hand, trembling, wanting to touch his daughter, but then froze in mid-air as if afraid of disturbing her.

He suddenly turned his head and looked in the direction of the police station gate.

Zhao Yulan's sharp curses had just disappeared around the street corner.

The man slowly stood up.

He stared intently in that direction, veins bulging on his forehead, his voice hoarse:

"Zhao Yulan... if you dare to say another word to her, I'll divorce you tomorrow! From now on, you can forget about controlling my daughter's life!!"
