Am I a Kamen Rider or the real young master who was switched at birth?
Chapter 18 Is the eldest sister a love-obsessed person?
"What? This guy surnamed Shen is such a beast?"
Ye Yang's voice boomed across the tennis court, startling several sparrows sunbathing in the nearby sycamore tree, causing them to flutter away.
He stood up from the bench, unconsciously gripping the tennis racket in his hand, his knuckles leaving several white marks on the handle.
His brows furrowed, his lips pressed into a thin line, and his entire demeanor changed drastically in that instant.
Lin Xingran was taken aback by his reaction.
She originally thought that Ye Yang would just rant and rave like her after hearing this, since he didn't know Shen Yunzhou and was at most just a bystander.
But Ye Yang's expression right now, how should I put it, doesn't seem like that of a bystander listening to gossip, but more like he's heard something that has crossed his bottom line.
"Yes, yes, yes!" Lin Xingran nodded vigorously after realizing what she meant, her wine-red short hair flying up and down with her movements. "However—there's something very strange."
She leaned her racket against the bench, then crossed her arms and frowned slightly. "He's become much more restrained lately. It's probably been a few months since then; he seems like a completely different person."
"He used to pretend, but he would occasionally slip up, like letting something slip. But in the last few months he's become incredibly meticulous; his words and actions are impeccable, and—"
She paused, tapping her temple with her finger. "His skills have suddenly improved dramatically. He used to be only average in the school's ranking matches, but in the last few months he's suddenly jumped into the top twenty. Everyone says he suddenly had a breakthrough, but I don't think something's right. How can someone suddenly have a breakthrough so smoothly?"
Lin Ying sat on the bench, holding a mineral water bottle in both hands, her fingers gently stroking the bottle.
A rare look of disgust flashed across her light gray eyes. "Anyway... I get annoyed just seeing him."
Ye Yang scratched his chin. He sat back down on the bench, his right index finger unconsciously tapping his knee.
After knocking several times, he finally spoke, "So, according to you, shouldn't my eldest sister dislike him? Why did she suddenly like him?"
He turned to look at Lin Xingran, then at Lin Ying, his gaze sweeping back and forth between the two sisters.
"What you just said, our eldest sister isn't the kind of person who'd be swayed by sweet words. She could calmly pin her opponent to the ground in the national finals, would she really turn into a love-struck fool because of a few nice words from a guy?"
Lin Xingran spread her hands, her face full of confusion: "Either she's lost her mind, and to be honest, I think that's quite possible. Love-struck people are terrifying."
"You haven't seen those CEOs in novels. They'll do anything for their 'white moonlight'—they'll give up the company, the family, even their lives."
"Look at my older sister now, she's skipping breakfast and looks completely out of sorts. What's the difference between her and those CEOs in novels who are head over heels in love with their 'white moonlight'?"
"Or—" Lin Xingran held up a finger, her expression becoming much more serious than before, "Just like in the novels, someone has cast a spell on me."
"Poisoning?" Ye Yang repeated the word. His fingers stopped tapping his knee and hovered in mid-air.
He was an Earthling in his past life and a person of this world in this life, so he is not completely unfamiliar with the word "Gu". Many novels in his past life had written about how the protagonist could use Gu on someone, and over time, that person would become his puppet.
But those are all stories. If what my second sister said is true, and if that man surnamed Shen really has such abilities, then his purpose in approaching my eldest sister is not "liking" her at all.
Ye Yang tilted his head and glanced in the direction of the pebble path.
My older sister just walked by that road in a hurry; she doesn't even play tennis anymore.
No matter how busy Lin Yumin is, she will always play a few games of ball with Lin Ying and Lin Xingran on weekend mornings. This is a regular activity between the sisters.
She even turned down this one today.
Ye Yang withdrew his gaze, his brows furrowing slightly. "Strange? Given Lin Yumin's personality, would she really lose control like this because of her feelings?"
He had witnessed Lin Yumin's composure. A person can become distracted by emotions, but it's impossible for a person to completely change their core essence in just a few days.
Lin Xingran continued to spout her "love brain theory" from the side, gesturing famously with her hands in the air. She talked about everything from "white moonlight" to "substitute literature" and then to "wife-chasing crematorium". The more she talked, the more excited she became, and the more she felt that her analysis made sense.
As Ye Yang listened, he suddenly raised a hand: "I feel something's off."
"You think it's weird too, right?" Lin Xingran pointed at Ye Yang with her finger, as if she had found an ally.
"I told Lin Ying before that my older sister's current state seemed really off. But I had no proof, and I couldn't just rush up to Shen Yunzhou, point my finger at him, and say, 'Did you put a curse on my sister?' Although I really wanted to say that, I couldn't beat my older sister."
After a few seconds of silence, Lin Xingran suddenly turned around as if she had remembered something.
She clasped her hands together above her head and gave Ye Yang and Lin Ying a perfectly proper bow.
"Sigh—that's all I know! Don't spread this around saying I told you! Especially don't let my older sister know I said it!"
"You all saw the look she gave me last time, that one glance she gave me on the stairs that morning. She was only being lenient because I'm her sister."
"If she knew I'd revealed her secret, she might send me to solitary confinement in the basement of the school's training grounds. I've been in that basement once, and there were rats in it! Rats this big!"
She gestured with her hand to form a shape the size of a basketball.
Lin Ying and Ye Yang exchanged a silent glance, then nodded simultaneously.
Lin Xingran stared at their faces for a long time, as if trying to confirm whether they were lying to her.
Lin Xingran was finally satisfied. She breathed a sigh of relief, put her hands back on her hips, stretched her shoulders back, and resumed her usual arrogant posture.
She slung her racket over her shoulder, pointed at Ye Yang with her other finger, and said, "Okay! So, what do we do next?"
Ye Yang leaned his tennis racket against the bench and stood up to stretch his wrists.
He looked up at the sky; the sun had already risen above the top of the sycamore tree, and sunlight filtered through the leaves, scattering golden fragments on the ground.
He calculated the time, and then that familiar smile reappeared on his face.
"I'm going to volunteer at the hospital."
"Huh?" Lin Xingran took the racket off her shoulder, blinked, and said, "You even volunteered at the hospital?"
Ye Yang waved his hand, scratched the tip of his nose with his finger, and organized his thoughts.
"It wasn't a volunteer job. How should I put it, it was helping a very great auntie. Her name is Aunt Chang. You may not have heard of her, but she's quite well-known in the area near the municipal hospital."
Lin Ying looked up at him, a hint of curiosity flashing in her light gray eyes.
Lin Xingran also put down her racket and leaned her head closer.
As Ye Yang spoke, he gestured with his hands to indicate the name, his tone filled with undisguised admiration, "She would walk around the hospital entrance every day, specifically looking for parents who brought their children from out of town to see a doctor."
"As you know, some parents come from very remote towns because their children are seriously ill and need to be hospitalized in the city for several months. They can't afford to stay in hotels, and they can't find short-term rentals. Some people even sleep on the chairs in the hospital corridors."
"Aunt Chang is dedicated to helping these people. She rented a building near the hospital, converted it into dormitories, and provided free accommodation for these parents and children."
"She also cooks for them every day, and when there are families in particularly difficult circumstances, she will even pay their medical expenses out of her own pocket."
Lin Ying listened intently. She put her water bottle aside, rested her chin on her hands, and asked with bright eyes, "Really...it's free?"
"No charge. Not a single penny." Ye Yang shook his head, his tone filled with deep respect. "She's persisted for many years. In the beginning, many people thought she was a fraud."
"Think about it, if someone stands at the hospital entrance and says to you, 'Come stay at my house, it's free, no money required,' who wouldn't think it's a scam? Some people cursed at her, some called the police, and some told her to her face that she was putting on an act."
"But she just stood there day after day, and slowly people started to believe. First one family, then two, and then more and more."
"Her dormitory now houses dozens of people from all over the country. They live together, help each other, and take care of each other, just like one big family."
Lin Ying chuckled softly and said, "Indeed."
Then she looked up at Ye Yang, her light gray eyes filled with a warm light, "You are a good person too, Ye Yang."
Ye Yang felt a little embarrassed by Lin Ying's direct praise. He scratched the back of his head, making his dimples even deeper.
Lin Xingran watched the two of them from the side, her lips twitching. Then she clapped her hands and put the racket in her hand on the bench: "Never mind, I have nothing to do today anyway—I'll go with you guys for a little while."
"How long is 'a little while'?" Ye Yang asked.
"Just for a moment! Don't push your luck!" Lin Xingran pointed a finger at Ye Yang's nose, then put her hands in her pockets and strode towards the garage.
Ye Yang and Lin Ying exchanged a glance. Lin Ying's lips curled up slightly, and then the two of them followed at the same time.
