Am I a Kamen Rider or the real young master who was switched at birth?
Chapter 22 If you can take action, don't just talk.
Ye Yang pulled Lin Yumin through the corridor corner, then he pushed open the fire door of the stairwell and closed it behind him.
The stairwell was quiet, with a faint smell of disinfectant in the air.
Lin Yumin had been dragged here by him, and the warmth of his fingers still lingered on her wrist.
She gently pulled her wrist out of Ye Yang's hand only after the fire door closed behind her.
She looked up at him, a hint of doubt flashing in her deep brown eyes: "What's wrong? Why are you in such a panic?"
Ye Yang did not answer immediately.
He placed the stack of flyers he was carrying under his arm on the stair steps, then pulled the photo from his pants pocket.
He held the photo by the edge and handed it to Lin Yumin.
His expression looked much more serious than usual under the fluorescent light, and he said in a stern voice, "We're keeping a ghost in the house, did you know that?"
Lin Yumin looked down at the photo in his hand.
She had seen Ye Yang's photos once before, and she knew that his photos often had a double image effect. But she quickly noticed something else.
Her gaze fell on the dark, overlapping shadows behind Shen Yunzhou in the photo, and her fingers stiffened slightly.
Countless silent beasts lay on top of Shen Yunzhou, while a huge, one-eyed phantom hovered directly above his head.
Among those silent beasts, there was one she recognized—a gigantic spider-like silent beast, the very one Ye Yang had previously destroyed.
Lin Yumin's lips parted slightly, her pupils suddenly contracted, and her eyelashes trembled gently.
She looked at the man in the photo, who was surrounded by countless silent beasts, and then at herself standing next to him.
Then she saw the slightly wriggling, worm-shaped phantom on the back of her neck.
"What's that thing on my body in this photo?"
Ye Yang shook his head and said seriously, "I don't know either. But whatever it is—it won't be anything good."
"This morning at the tennis court, my second sister said, 'Either my eldest sister has been bewitched.' At the time, I thought she was just talking nonsense again. But now look at this..."
He pointed to the illusory image of the Gu worm crawling on the back of her neck in the photo, his lips pressed into a thin line, without finishing the second half of his sentence.
Just then, very light footsteps came from below the stairwell.
The two of them turned their heads at the same time.
Lin Ying walked up the stairs from the next floor, holding a half-empty bottle of mineral water in her hand. Her silver-white hair was slightly disheveled from climbing the stairs, with a few strands sticking to her cheeks.
When she reached the stairwell landing, she looked up and saw two people standing there. She paused for a moment, blinked her light gray eyes, and said, "Big sister... you're really here."
Then she noticed her older sister's strange expression.
Although the eldest sister was standing ramrod straight, her lips were pressed too tightly together, and the very fine vertical line between her eyebrows was too deep.
She took a few steps forward and then saw the photo in Lin Yumin's hand. Her face visibly darkened under the fluorescent light.
"What is this?" she asked softly.
Lin Yumin did not answer her. Her left hand unconsciously rose, her fingertips pressing against the spot on the back of her neck where the Gu worm was lying.
She gently rubbed that spot with her fingertips, but didn't feel any unusual protrusions or wounds.
But she knew there was something there. The moment the magenta camera shutter clicked, the stabbing pain in her chest was real.
"Here—I…" she murmured absentmindedly.
Before she could finish speaking, a commotion suddenly came from outside the stairwell.
Ye Yang suddenly turned his head to look at the fire door.
There is a narrow frosted glass window on the fire door. Through the glass, you can see a blurry figure standing motionless at the doorway in the corridor.
At this moment, Shen Yunzhou was standing sideways outside the door. Half of his face was obscured by frosted glass, but Ye Yang could see the fleeting ruthlessness in his eyes.
From Shen Yunzhou's perspective, however, he couldn't see anything outside the stairwell.
All he knew was that Lin Yumin was pulled into the stairwell by that kid named Ye Yang, and the two of them had been inside for several minutes.
What are they talking about? What did they discover? What secrets do the photos taken by that magenta camera hold?
These questions crawled around in his mind like a swarm of ants, making him restless and anxious.
"Damn it—what are they looking at?" he asked himself through gritted teeth.
Just then, a cold voice came from behind him: "Is it fun to spy on other people's privacy?"
Shen Yunzhou turned around. Lin Xingran was standing behind him, holding a few crumpled flyers in her hand.
Her burgundy short hair was plastered to her forehead with sweat, and the stray hairs in front of her forehead were blown into disarray by the wind.
At this moment, an extremely dangerous flame was burning in her slightly upturned eyes.
At the same time, the fire door in the stairwell was pushed open from the inside.
Ye Yang, Lin Yumin, and Lin Ying came out from inside.
Ye Yang stood at the front, and Lin Yumin stood behind him, her deep brown eyes now completely cold.
Lin Ying stood next to Lin Yumin, one hand naturally blocking her older sister's way, the other holding her phone.
Shen Yunzhou turned around to face them. The corners of his mouth slowly turned up, and then he took his hands out of his pockets, making a somewhat puzzled gesture.
"What's wrong? Why is everyone staring at me?" he asked, his voice full of confusion.
Ye Yang released Lin Yumin's wrist. He took two steps forward, his shoes making a few dull thuds on the smooth floor of the corridor.
Before Shen Yunzhou could react, Ye Yang raised his right hand and grabbed Shen Yunzhou's neck.
His movements were so fast that no one present could see how he made his move.
The moment he raised his hand, Shen Yunzhou's back slammed heavily against the corridor wall, making a dull thud.
The decorative painting on the wall was shaken and tilted, and the leaves of the green plant next to it also trembled several times.
Shen Yunzhou's head hit the wall, and his handsome face showed an undisguised look of astonishment.
His hand instinctively rose up and grabbed Ye Yang's wrist, trying to pry his fingers apart.
His knuckles turned white from the force, but he soon discovered a shocking fact: he couldn't budge the ordinary boy in front of him who hadn't even awakened any superpowers.
The force of his fingers was inhuman; the five fingers gripping him were like five steel bars, firmly embedded in his neck, without moving an inch.
Just then, a series of hurried footsteps came from the other end of the corridor.
Several nurses in light blue uniforms ran over when they heard the commotion. The older head nurse, who was in charge, stared wide-eyed at the scene.
She strode forward, then raised one hand in the air and shouted urgently, "Hey—this is a hospital! No horseplay here! What are you doing? Let them go! Or I'll call security!"
Lin Xingran strode directly in front of the head nurse, stuffed the crumpled flyers in her hand into her pocket, and took out an ID card from the inside pocket of her shirt with her other hand, holding it up to the head nurse's eyes.
The dark blue ID card bore the emblem of the Federal First Military Academy and her student registration information, with a photo of her embedded below.
In the photo, she is unusually free of dark circles and finally looks somewhat presentable.
"We are awakened beings, and we are currently handling official business. We hope you can cooperate. Please take your colleagues and leave this area first. If there are patients downstairs who need assistance, please prioritize them. We will handle this."
The head nurse glanced at Lin Xingran's identification, then at the boy in front of her who was choking someone, and at the Lin family's eldest daughter standing beside her with an icy expression.
She opened her mouth, but ultimately said nothing more, and quickly retreated back to the nurses' station with the other nurses.
When Shen Yunzhou heard the words "Awakener," the corner of his eye twitched slightly.
He struggled to force out a hoarse voice from his choked throat, saying, "What...what happened? Have you misunderstood something?"
Lin Ying stood next to Lin Yumin, held the phone to her ear, and said coldly into the phone:
"Hello, I need to report a crime. This is the third floor of the VIP ward at the Municipal Hospital. There is a suspect who may be connected to the Silent Beast attack. The Awakened Squad needs to be dispatched immediately."
She paused, then glanced at Shen Yunzhou, who was pinned against the wall by Ye Yang, and then at her eldest sister, who was leaning against her with a pale face: "Yes, the suspect is Shen Yunzhou, the only son of the Shen family. If he resists, we will take him into custody immediately."
Shen Yunzhou's expression changed completely in that instant.
His pupils suddenly contracted, and a fine layer of sweat appeared on his forehead.
His gaze passed over Ye Yang's shoulder and fixed intently on Lin Yumin.
He cannot be exposed here. He cannot be arrested here.
His plan is not yet complete, his Silent Beast Legion is not yet formed, and he has not yet become the strongest in this world.
He couldn't let a group of NPCs he looked down on turn the tables on him in less than a year after he transmigrated.
His lips moved, and then he suddenly stretched out his right hand, his five fingers spread wide, and grabbed at Lin Yumin in mid-air.
Lin Yumin's body stiffened abruptly. A sudden, intense pain shot through the back of her neck, as if something was burrowing out from between her cervical vertebrae.
Her vision blurred for a moment, and her dark brown eyes instantly lost focus. Then her knees buckled, and she fell to the ground.
"Big sister—!" Lin Ying immediately supported Lin Yumin, wrapping one arm around her waist and the other hand tightly protecting the back of her head.
She touched the back of her older sister's neck, where the skin was frighteningly hot, as if a ball of fire was burning under the skin.
Lin Ying leaned her older sister against the wall and then used her body to shield her.
She looked up at Shen Yunzhou, her eyes filled with undisguised hostility.
Just then, a dark figure rushed in through the window at the end of the corridor.
The window shattered into countless fragments upon impact, the shards gleaming in the afternoon sunlight like scattered diamonds.
The dark figure spread its wings, the dark purple wing membranes gleaming disgustingly oily in the light.
It was a bat-like beast, slightly smaller than the previous spider-like beast, but significantly faster.
Its head is a flat triangle, with two long, pointed ears and a mouth full of fine, sharp teeth.
The moment it rushed in through the window, it crashed directly into Ye Yang, the sharp bone spikes on the edges of its wings slicing through the air in the corridor.
Ye Yanglai was gripping Shen Yunzhou tightly, so he didn't have time to dodge.
The bat-like beast's wing slammed heavily into him, sending him flying.
His back slammed into the wall across the corridor, leaving a shallow dent, before he fell to the ground.
"Ye Yang!"
Lin Xingran rushed to Ye Yang's side, squatted down, put one hand on his shoulder, and used the other hand to check if he had hit his head.
Her fingers quickly ran through his hair, then she breathed a sigh of relief.
Ye Yang propped himself up with his hands, shook his head, and shook off the shards of glass stuck to his hair.
He looked up at the bat-like beast circling in mid-air, then at Shen Yunzhou.
Taking advantage of the chaos, Shen Yunzhou grabbed one of the bat beast's legs, lifting its entire body off the ground and flying away.
Lin Xingran stood up and watched Shen Yunzhou's back as he flew further and further away on the bat-like beast's leg. A kind of anger that Ye Yang had never seen on her face ignited in her eyes, which still had dark circles under them.
Her fingers clenched into fists at her sides, her knuckles making a soft cracking sound, and faint orange-red flames flickered between her fingers on her fists.
"What the hell—you dare touch my older sister and my younger brother—you're asking for it!"
She turned and walked toward the window that had been smashed by the bat-like beast, the shards of glass crunching softly beneath her feet.
She braced herself against the windowsill with both hands and flipped herself out.
As she climbed out of the window, she pushed off the windowsill with her knee.
Her body spun halfway through the air in a relay, then she pushed her arms forward with a sudden burst of energy.
A thick, orange-red pillar of fire shot out from between her palms.
The flames left a scorching trail in the air as they hurtled straight toward the bat-like beast that was adjusting its flight as it plummeted.
The pillar of fire struck its left wing precisely.
Its wing membrane was instantly burned through by the high temperature, leaving a large hole, with wisps of thick black smoke rising from the edges.
The bat-like beast let out a piercing scream, then lost its balance and plummeted straight down from the height of the third floor.
It crashed onto the concrete ground of the open space below, kicking up a cloud of dust.
Shen Yunzhou was also dragged down by it and fell heavily to the ground.
He rolled twice on the ground before stopping, his light gray suit covered in dirt and bits of grass.
Ye Yang stood up from the ground.
He wiped the dust off his mouth with the back of his hand, then walked to the broken window and looked down.
The bat-like beast was struggling to get up from the ground. Although one of its wings was burned through, its sharp teeth were still bared, and its eyes gleamed with a fierce red light.
Shen Yunzhou stood beside it, one hand covering his injured arm, the other gesturing some kind of command.
Without hesitation, Ye Yang braced himself against the windowsill with one hand and jumped down, landing steadily next to Lin Xingran.
Seeing that Ye Yang had also jumped down, Lin Xingran reached out and pulled him up to help him regain his balance: "Why did you come down too?"
Ye Yang stared intently in the direction of Shen Yunzhou ahead and said seriously, "We can't let him get away."
Lin Xingran nodded, then turned around and shouted at the broken window on the third floor, "Lin Ying! Take good care of that mentally challenged older sister! Don't let her come down!"
Lin Ying peeked out from the hole on the third floor and nodded.
In the open space, Shen Yunzhou slowly stood up.
He dusted off his suit, his movements still carrying that habitual elegance, but the gentle, jade-like smile on his face was completely gone.
He turned his head with a fierce look and nodded to the bat-like beast: "Kill Ye Yang."
The bat-like beast let out a piercing roar, the sound waves causing the alarms on several nearby cars to go off simultaneously.
