Am I a Kamen Rider or the real young master who was switched at birth?
Chapter 4 Eldest Sister and Second Sister
The car slowly drove into the Lin family's gate, its wheels rolling over the bluestone pavement, making a steady rustling sound.
Ye Yang pressed his face against the car window. He had previously searched for photos of some wealthy families online, and the style of decoration that seemed to want to cover the walls with gold made him grimac.
But the Lin family was completely different.
The modern glass curtain wall and the traditional building with its upturned eaves are put together without looking out of place; on the contrary, they create an indescribable harmony.
Large floor-to-ceiling windows reflected the afternoon sun, and dark wooden pillars were embedded between the windows, with patterns carved on them that he couldn't name, making them look quite old.
The main building has a traditional hip roof with layers of bluish-gray tiles, and a few clumps of light-colored moss growing in the gaps between the tiles.
The car circled around an artificial hill.
Several oddly shaped Taihu stones are piled on the artificial hill, and a crooked pine tree grows out of the crack in the stone.
Next to the artificial hill is a small pond with a few water lilies floating on the surface, and red koi swimming lazily under the leaves.
The car came to a smooth stop in front of a small circular square.
The ground is paved with polished bluestone slabs, with fine grass growing between the slabs, making it smooth and non-slip when stepped on.
Ye Yang noticed several lampposts standing at the edge of the square, with lampshades shaped like lanterns but modern light bulbs inside. This eclectic style was everywhere in the entire courtyard.
The bodyguard jogged over and opened the car door. Ye Yang bent down and climbed out of the car.
His shoes made a slight scraping sound as they stepped on the bluestone slabs. He glanced down and thought to himself that the paving stones were cleaner than the dining tables in the orphanage's canteen.
Before he could take a closer look around, his gaze was immediately drawn to two figures at the doorway.
The two girls on the steps, one standing straight and the other standing crookedly, looked as if they might fall over at any moment.
The one standing straight looked to be in his early twenties, with long, jet-black hair tied into a neat low ponytail at the back of his head.
Her eyebrows were long and slender, and her eyes were dark brown, like the deepest lake in autumn.
She was wearing a simple white shirt with the collar slightly open, revealing a small section of skin below her collarbone.
Below, she wore dark blue trousers with a straight crease, paired with black low-heeled leather shoes; she was a sight to behold just standing there.
What's most special about her is her aura; even standing under the blazing sun, she seems to emanate a cool breeze. People are drawn to her, yet hesitant to be too forward.
The one who looked crooked and hunched over didn't seem to be much older than Ye Yang. She was tall, a head taller than the girl next to her.
She had short, slightly wavy hair with frizzy ends, as if she hadn't had time to style it in the morning.
The color is a deep burgundy, which looks like a dancing flame in the sunlight.
Her facial features were striking and bold, her eyebrows were thicker than those of most girls, and her eyes were slightly upturned at the corners, as if she were born with a wild and unruly spirit.
But at this moment, those eyes, which should have been sharp, had two very obvious dark circles under them, as if they had just been dragged out of bed and were not fully awake.
She had one hand in her pocket and was rubbing her eyes with the other. After rubbing her eyes, she casually scratched the back of her head, making the already unruly tuft of hair even messier.
Ye Yang recognized him instantly.
The official homepage of the Federal First Military Academy features a photo of Lin Yumin, dressed in a cadet uniform and standing in the position of student council president. Below the photo is a long list of honors.
Three-time champion of tactical simulation, holder of the highest score in actual combat, outstanding student at the school level...
He had watched a video of Lin Yumin's match where she used a water tornado to trap the entire opposing team, her face expressionless throughout. The comments section was filled with "goddess" and "serene Valkyrie".
As for Lin Xingran, her introduction on the official website is much briefer, but her name appears very frequently in the gossip section of the campus forum.
Some say she once burned the training target to ashes because her teammates were being ridiculed; others say she actually has a very good temper, as long as you don't cross her bottom line.
Online reviews describe her as "fiery and straightforward," and now that I see it, it's definitely true.
One is like water, the other like fire; standing together, their contrast is so great it's as if they come from two different worlds.
Seeing her parents get out of the car, Lin Yumin bowed slightly and said in a steady voice, "Father, Mother, you're back."
Lin Xingran slowly lowered her hand from her eyes and subconsciously let out a half-yawn.
But she opened her mouth halfway and quickly closed it again, mumbling, "Hello, Mom and Dad..."
Lin Yuanshan glanced at his second daughter, his brows furrowing almost imperceptibly.
He turned to the side and gently placed his hand on Ye Yang's shoulder.
"This is Ye Yang, whom I mentioned to you before. He's your younger brother."
Ye Yang looked up and gave the two girls on the steps a big smile.
"Hello, hello!" he said, scratching the back of his head, making his already messy hair even messier.
"I watched your matches in videos before. Sister Yumian's water tornado was so cool, it swept the entire opposing team away. Sister Xingran's fire control was also amazing, it turned the entire arena red, and the opposing team surrendered immediately."
"You look even better in person than in the videos. The camera just can't capture your aura."
Lin Yumin nodded slightly, her expression not changing much, but something flashed in her dark brown eyes.
"Thank you. The game you watched was from last spring's inter-school league. Actually, I didn't play very well in that game; it was the opponents who made too many mistakes."
Lin Xingran, however, was completely different. Her eyes, which had been half-closed, suddenly widened.
A fierce internal struggle was raging within her.
"Is this my long-lost younger brother?" Her eyes scanned Ye Yang from top to bottom, finally landing on the strangely colored camera on his chest.
Her eyebrows twitched slightly, and she mentally gave a fairly objective assessment: "She's not bad looking." Her features are well-proportioned, and her smile is quite pretty. Hmm, she's about half of what I looked like back then."
The thought had barely crossed her mind when she immediately dismissed it. "No, no, I can't let my guard down. This kind of person is the most dangerous!"
Her eyelids twitched slightly.
"That's how it's written in novels! When the real young master is found, he's all smiles and polite to everyone, making you think he's a harmless little sun. Then, once you let your guard down, he starts causing trouble!"
Lin Xingran's inner monologue raced faster and faster, like turning the pages of a book in her mind, with various novel plots flashing by.
"Some will act pitiful in front of their parents, some will roll their eyes when you're not looking, and the most classic one is to suddenly fall to the ground, then say with tears in their eyes, 'I know I'm not part of this family, I'd better leave'—and then their parents will think we've bullied them!"
The more she thought about it, the more she felt that her analysis made sense.
She stayed up until 3 a.m. last night, reading through all the popular novels about real and fake young masters. The more she read, the more alarmed she became, and the more she felt that her family's situation was exactly the same as that described in the novels.
Ye Yang was completely unaware of his second sister's complex inner thoughts.
He was frantically rummaging through his pockets.
"Ah, we've run out of business cards... wait, there seems to be one left—"
He reached his hand deep into his pocket, pinched a card between two fingers, and pulled it out.
Because it was stuffed too deep, the business card was squeezed and wrinkled by the things in the pocket, and a small piece of the edge curled up.
"This is my business card! Nice to meet you!"
Lin Yumin reached out and took the business card, then looked down at it. A hand-drawn smiley face was drawn on the light yellow card.
Next to it was written a line of text: "I hope to use the camera to record everyone's happy smiles," and "Skills I have mastered: 1999."
Lin Yumin stared for a few seconds. A small smile curved her lips.
"A beautiful dream." She looked up, her deep brown eyes meeting Ye Yang's. "Welcome home, Ye Yang."
Lin Xingran clapped her hands perfunctorily a couple of times. The applause was sparse, and she forced a weak smile: "Okay, okay, welcome, welcome."
Then she turned her head away and muttered to herself in a low voice, "What a childish business card."
However, after she finished muttering to herself, her gaze couldn't help but drift back to the business card.
1999 skills? That's probably an exaggeration. But the smiley face is actually quite cute.
No, no. Lin Xingran shook her head vigorously, her wine-red short hair swaying from side to side with her movements.
Don't be fooled by sweet talk. That's how villains in novels always start!
Lin Yuanshan stood to the side and surveyed the scene of the family reunion.
He cleared his throat and said in a low voice, "Alright, let's go in and take a look. After all, this place—"
He looked up at the mansion behind him, his gaze lingering on the gray roof tiles for a few seconds before he said in a softer voice, "But this is your future home."
Su Wanqing reached out and patted Ye Yang's head, saying gently, "This will be your home from now on. Take your time and see what it's like."
Ye Yang felt a little embarrassed by her touching him, and he shrank his neck slightly.
The group walked towards the main building.
Lin Yuanshan walked at the front, with Su Wanqing holding his arm, their high heels clicking rhythmically on the bluestone slabs.
Ye Yang followed behind, his head constantly turning left and right, like a primary school student entering a museum for the first time, finding everything new and interesting.
Lin Ying walked at the very back, her silver-white hair swaying gently with her steps.
She looked up at Ye Yang's back in front of her, then quickly looked down again, staring at the tips of her shoes as she walked.
Just then, a figure suddenly darted up to her from behind.
"Lin Ying! Lin Ying!"
Lin Xingran rushed over like a fiery red whirlwind and grabbed Lin Ying's arm.
She half-dragged, half-pulled Lin Ying a couple of steps to the side, away from the crowd in front.
"Wh...what?" Lin Ying blinked, her silvery-white eyelashes fluttering twice, still not quite understanding what was going on.
Lin Xingran moved closer to her. The two were face to face, so close that Lin Ying could smell the fragrance of her second sister's shampoo from yesterday.
"Did that kid bully you?" Lin Xingran gestured with her chin towards Ye Yang.
Lin Ying: "...Huh?"
"It's something like threatening you!" Lin Xingran tightened his grip on Lin Ying's arm.
"Say something like, 'You're just an outsider, I'm the only real child in this family'—did you? Or say something sarcastic like, 'Thank you for enjoying the life that should have been mine all these years'? Or something like—"
She lowered her voice, her tone becoming more serious, "Did he say anything like, 'I know you don't want to leave, it's okay, I'll let you leave with dignity'?"
Lin Ying was stunned for a while before she realized what her second sister was talking about.
She opened her mouth, then burst out laughing. She quickly waved her hand, as if trying to brush away her second sister's absurd ideas from the air.
"No, no, no!" She shook her head like a rattle-drum, several strands of her silver-white hair flying up. "He... he didn't, he didn't say those... those things."
Lin Xingran stared at her for a long while. Her eyes narrowed slightly, as if assessing the credibility of her statement.
"Really? Don't be afraid, your second sister will take care of things if anything happens. Don't you know what kind of relationship we have? From childhood to adulthood, whenever someone bullied you, wasn't it me who fought for you?"
Lin Ying opened her mouth as if to say something, but Lin Xingran didn't give her a chance to interrupt.
"If he dares to bully you, I'll be the first to—" She raised her fist and gestured in the air.
Just as she made the gesture, a small flame suddenly appeared on her fist, and the orange-red flame danced between her fingers.
Lin Ying was stunned for a second when she saw her second sister's posture, as if she was ready to fight for her at any moment. Then she couldn't help but speak up.
"Pfft, hahaha—" she laughed without any attempt to hide it.
Her eyes curved into two shallow crescent moons, her silvery-white eyelashes fluttered, and her white hair swayed gently with her laughter.
She was holding her stomach with one hand while waving the other, her shoulders shaking with laughter.
Lin Xingran was puzzled by her laughter, and her eyebrows furrowed slightly. "What are you laughing at?"
Lin Ying finally managed to stop laughing. She reached out and gently poked Lin Xingran's forehead with her index finger: "Second sister, you...you've been reading novels so much you've lost your mind."
Lin Xingran's expression instantly fell apart; her lips pouted slightly, and her whole face was filled with grievance.
Her fingers flailing erratically in the air, as if grasping at some unseen lifeline.
"You're the one who's brainless!" she said, raising her hand and lightly flicking Lin Ying's forehead with a "pop" sound.
"You silly goose. I stayed up all night analyzing the enemy situation for you, and this is how you repay me?"
Lin Ying covered the spot where she had been flicked, but she was still laughing, her shoulders swaying.
Seeing Lin Ying laughing like that, Lin Xingran finally couldn't hold back her own aggrieved expression.
Her lips started to involuntarily curl upwards, and finally, her entire facial expression management system completely broke down.
She turned her head away, covered her mouth with the back of her hand, and pretended to cough.
"Fine, fine, you're the only one with a brain." She muttered, reaching out to ruffle Lin Ying's hair, making a mess of her neat, silver-white locks. "Anyway, I'll still keep an eye on him. If he dares to make any funny moves—"
"Okay, okay," Lin Ying said with a laugh, dodging her hand. "I-I know."
Su Wanqing, who was walking ahead, heard the noise behind her and turned around to look.
She saw her two daughters huddled together. Lin Xingran was ruffling Lin Ying's hair, and Lin Ying was laughing and dodging. Their shadows overlapped on the bluestone slab, swaying back and forth with their movements.
Su Wanqing smiled slightly, turned her head, and exchanged a knowing glance with Lin Yuanshan.
