Am I a Kamen Rider or the real young master who was switched at birth?
Chapter 7 Lin Xingran's Garage
The three of them walked along the cobblestone path on the side of the Lin family mansion for about ten minutes before Ye Yang finally saw the so-called "garage".
He originally thought the garage was just a tin shed next to the house that could park two or three cars.
What appeared before him was a detached building with two rows of neatly trimmed holly bushes planted in front of it.
It is about half the size of the orphanage's canteen.
Ye Yang stood at the garage door, hands on his knees, catching his breath. "Why is the garage so far away? I was already exhausted from walking around the villa for so long, and now it's taken another ten minutes to walk to the garage."
Lin Xingran, with her hands in her pockets, was walking at the front as if she were on top of the world. When she heard this, she turned around and glanced at him.
With her chin slightly raised and exuding confidence, she casually remarked, "Ah, this is just one of the garages."
Ye Yang opened his mouth.
Lin Xingran continued walking, casually adding, "Most of the cars parked inside are mine. Lin Ying also has some cars parked here. Her own garage is full."
"Wait, wait, wait." Ye Yang jogged a few steps to catch up with Lin Xingran. "You three sisters, each of you has your own garage?"
Lin Xingran stopped and turned to look at him, her eyebrows slightly raised.
She seemed to enjoy Ye Yang's dumbfounded expression, a smug smile playing on her lips. She reached out and patted Ye Yang's shoulder, saying earnestly:
"Even if you don't cause any trouble, you'll still have to later."
After saying that, she turned around and walked to the garage door, pressed her fingerprint on the access control panel, and then entered a string of numbers.
The garage door slowly rose, emitting a low, mechanical hum.
When the door was halfway up, Ye Yang could already see the scene inside, and his jaw almost dropped to the ground.
The garage was packed full of sports cars, like something out of a car showroom.
Streamlined supercars lined up one after another, their multicolored paint reflecting a dazzling sheen under the overhead lights.
Deep red, matte black, electric blue, and a gradient purple he couldn't name.
He had even seen the designs of some of the cars in car magazines. What was even more outrageous was that there were several large vehicles in the corner that were clearly not civilian vehicles.
They were wider, had bigger tires, and higher chassis, with military markings on their windshields that he didn't quite understand.
Lin Xingran noticed his gaze and casually waved his hand. "That's a vehicle reserved for high-level awakened individuals."
"It's not mine, it belongs to my dad. His garage is under repair, so it's temporarily here with me. Just don't touch it, touching it might trigger the automatic defense system."
Ye Yang silently withdrew his outstretched hand.
Lin Xingran stood in the center of the garage with her hands on her hips, slowly looking around.
She looked at the rows of gleaming sports cars, her lips slightly upturned, and her fingers gently tapped her chin.
She let out a somewhat troubled sigh, "Oh dear—which concubine should I favor today?"
Ye Yang stood next to her, looking at the garage full of sports cars, and the numbers in his mind started spinning rapidly again.
All the money he's accumulated from writing novels and singing over the years, if added together, would probably be enough to buy all of these cars... well, although he does have a lot of money, it's definitely not comparable to what others have.
"Damn. I have to take a picture to record this," he muttered to himself, his hand already reflexively raising the magenta camera hanging around his neck.
He held the camera up to his eyes and pressed the shutter button on the garage full of sports cars.
With a crisp click, the photo popped out from the bottom of the camera.
Ye Yang pinched the edge of the photo and shook it, and the image in the photo slowly emerged.
However, all the car edges have a blurry double image, as if something unseen is gently swaying in the picture, giving the whole picture a subtle sense of dislocation.
Lin Ying walked up to him without him noticing.
She stood to Ye Yang's right, her head slightly tilted, her light gray eyes fixed on the developing photograph in Ye Yang's hand, her eyelashes fluttering slightly.
She noticed the double images.
The center of the photo taken by Ye Yang is clear, but the edges look like they've been pulled by something.
In some places, there are double outlines, and in others, the shadows are not where they should be, as if the same scene was captured simultaneously on two different levels.
Lin Ying blinked in confusion. Her lips moved as if she wanted to ask something, but before she could speak, Lin Xingran rushed over from the side.
"Hey! Let me see!" Lin Xingran snatched the photo from Ye Yang's hand and held it up to her eyes for a second look.
Her brow furrowed, her eyes narrowed to slits, and she flipped the photos over and over. "Is your camera broken? How come they turned out like this?"
She held the photo up to Ye Yang, poking at the double images along the edges: "Look, look! The shadow of this red sports car is off-center, and the light from this light fixture is doubled. What kind of crappy camera is this? It can even produce afterimages in a photo!"
Ye Yang smiled, hung the camera back around his neck, gently patted the lens, and patiently explained, "It's not a problem with the camera. No matter what camera I use, the photos always look like this."
Lin Xingran stared at Ye Yang with some suspicion for two seconds, then casually put the photo aside and took out her phone from her pocket.
She turned on her phone's camera and shoved it into Ye Yang's hand: "I don't believe you. Take a picture of me with this."
Ye Yang took the phone and glanced at the screen. Then he held it up and pointed it at Lin Xingran.
She was standing next to a deep red supercar with her arms crossed, looking incredibly arrogant, her burgundy short hair blazing under the garage lights.
He pressed the shutter button, then flipped the phone over and handed it to Lin Xingran to see.
Lin Xingran took the phone and looked down at the screen.
Lin Ying also came over, peeking half her head out from behind her second sister's shoulder.
The photo is very clear.
Lin Xingran herself stood in the center of the picture, every strand of her hair was clearly visible, and her expression was also very accurate, capturing her arrogant and smug expression perfectly.
But the background around her was all clearly blurred.
In some places, there are even double outlines, as if two different scenes are vying to appear in the same photo.
Lin Xingran held her phone a little further away, then a little closer, and looked at it several times.
Her lips parted slightly, and finally she raised her head to look at Ye Yang with curiosity.
"That's strange. What kind of ability do you have? Didn't you say you hadn't awakened any superpowers?"
Ye Yang waved his hand and said in a light tone, "Mine isn't exactly a superpower. How should I put it, it can sometimes capture some hidden things."
He pointed to a corner of the photo.
That corner was exactly where the double image was most severe near the red supercar behind Lin Xingran.
There was a semi-transparent silhouette there, whose figure resembled Lin Xingran's. She was wearing clothes similar to those of an Awakened combatant and was standing next to the car.
But when Lin Xingran took the photo, there was clearly nothing in that spot.
Lin Ying stared at the shadow for a long time, her eyes widening slightly.
Lin Xingran held her phone up to her eyes and carefully examined the shadow.
She squinted, zoomed in on the photo with her finger, then zoomed out again, looking at it repeatedly.
She said with a rare hint of admiration, "Wow, that's fun. You can actually photograph a ghost?"
"It's not some kind of ghost." Ye Yang shook his head, but didn't explain further.
He wasn't quite sure what those double images were; he only knew that every time he took a photo, something extra would appear in the picture.
Sometimes it's a human figure, sometimes it's something else, and most of the time he can't even figure it out himself.
Just as he was about to say something, his gaze was suddenly drawn to a motorcycle parked in the corner of the garage.
The motorcycle was parked on a special stand in the corner, its matte black body faintly gleaming with a dark purple metallic sheen under the light.
The motorcycle has extremely smooth lines, with the headlight and taillights forming an almost straight line. There are no superfluous decorations, making it simple to the point of being cold.
The handlebars are low-slung, the seat is black leather, and the rims are engraved with dark patterns he couldn't understand. The whole bike was parked there quietly, but it gave people a sense of pressure that it might pounce at any moment.
Ye Yang's eyes lit up. He walked over, circled the motorcycle halfway around, and exclaimed with genuine admiration, "Wow! Xingran, you ride a motorcycle? That's so cool!"
Lin Xingran walked over, stood next to the motorcycle with her hands on her hips, her face full of a proud little expression, her nostrils practically pointing to the ceiling.
"Don't move." She held out her hand to block Ye Yang, palm facing him. "I really cherish this motorcycle. I usually don't dare to drive it out, afraid of breaking it. I had it custom-made from overseas for my eighteenth birthday, and I waited for half a year."
Ye Yang squatted down to look at the chassis of the motorcycle, then stood up to look at the instrument panel, his excitement undiminished.
"What's the point of buying a car if you're not going to drive it? A car is meant to be ridden, not just looked at."
Lin Xingran put her hands on her hips and said confidently, "I'm willing, is that not allowed?"
After saying that, Lin Xingran walked to the wall.
There was a whole row of car keys hanging on the wall, at least twenty or thirty of them, each hanging on a separate small hook with a label below it showing the corresponding license plate number.
She ran her fingers between the keys for a few seconds, as if selecting something important.
Finally, she took a red-cased car key from one of the hooks, which had a logo of a leaping horse printed on it.
She held the keys and turned to walk towards the red supercar parked in the center.
She took long strides, her shoulders swayed slightly, her chin was held high, and an arrogant smile played on her lips.
She walked to the car door, opened it, and gracefully got into the driver's seat.
Then she reached behind the sun visor and pulled out a pair of sunglasses, which she put on.
Sunglasses concealed the dark circles under her eyes, revealing only her straight nose and slightly upturned corners of her mouth.
She held the steering wheel with one hand and beckoned to the two figures standing at the garage entrance with the other.
She gestured with her chin toward the passenger seat, "Lin Ying, sit next to me."
Then she turned her head and gestured for Ye Yang to step back: "You—go stay in the back."
"Okay." Ye Yang replied crisply, then eagerly opened the back door and climbed in.
He almost hit his head again when he crawled in, but this time he reacted quickly and immediately used his hand to block it, thus avoiding a collision.
He sat somewhat uneasy in the back seat, looking around at the interior of the car, his eyes beginning to light up again.
The interior space of the car was much larger than he had imagined.
The soft, leather-wrapped seats in the back make you feel as light as if you're sitting on a cloud.
The roof was higher than he expected, so it wouldn't be so easy for his head to hit it.
Between the two front seats is a small control panel with a touch screen embedded in it, the edges of which emit a faint blue light.
Ye Yang ran his fingers over the leather of the back seats, then tapped on the inside of the car door, and said, "This car has been modified, hasn't it?"
Lin Xingran was adjusting the rearview mirror when she heard this. She turned her head and glanced at him through the top of her sunglasses.
"You're quite knowledgeable. This car has been completely modified inside and out. Engine, suspension, seats, safety system... even the glass has been replaced. No ordinary supercar can withstand the tinkering of an Awakened."
Ye Yang grinned, then scratched the back of his head, saying somewhat embarrassedly:
"I also know a little about car modification. I learned it from a master mechanic and helped out at a repair shop for a few months. This is the 1132nd skill I've learned."
Lin Xingran pushed her sunglasses down, revealing her eyes as she looked at him: "You actually studied it?"
Ye Yang said matter-of-factly, "Of course I've studied it, why would I lie to you?"
Lin Xingran leaned back lazily in her seat and started the car.
The engine emitted a deep roar, like the rumble of some large beast in its throat.
The car vibrated slightly, the pointer on the instrument panel jumped a few notches, and blue ambient lighting lit up from the edge of the dashboard.
Suddenly, as if she had thought of something, Lin Xingran put one hand on the steering wheel and the other on the back of the passenger seat, turned her head and smiled at Ye Yang.
"Hey, you know what, maybe your mentors are all hidden masters. On the surface they're car mechanics, but actually they're retired special agents. Seeing your extraordinary talent, they passed on all their skills to you. That's how it's written in novels."
Ye Yang laughed from the back row. He waved his hand and said with a smile:
"It can't be that serious, it's not that mysterious. Most of them are just ordinary people. For example, the old man who taught me carpentry had a terrible temper and would call me stupid all the time."
"Just kidding." Lin Xingran withdrew her hand from the back of the seat and gripped the steering wheel again.
She pushed up her sunglasses and said with a hint of a smile, "Hold on tight."
Ye Yang quickly grabbed the seatbelt in the back seat.
Before the seatbelt was even properly fastened, Lin Xingran had already stepped on the gas.
The red supercar shot out of the garage like an arrow.
The tires screeched sharply on the flagstones, and then the car spun in a beautiful arc, driving onto the tree-lined road leading to the gate.
The plane trees on both sides rushed past, and sunlight filtered through the gaps in the leaves, casting a flowing patch of light on the car.
Ye Yang was thrown backward by the inertia, his back pressed against the leather seat, his fingers gripping the seat belt tightly, but the corners of his mouth turned up uncontrollably.
Lin Ying sat in the passenger seat, her silver-white hair fluttering gently in the wind that seeped in through the gaps in the car window.
She glanced at Lin Xingran in the driver's seat; her second sister was wearing sunglasses and had an arrogant smile on her lips.
She was steering with one hand and resting the other on the edge of the car window. The wind made her burgundy short hair bounce above her sunglasses, and she looked incredibly happy.
Then Lin Ying tilted her head slightly and glanced at Ye Yang in the back seat through the rearview mirror.
He was peering out the car window with sparkling eyes, muttering something under his breath, probably marveling at the things along the roadside.
The car slowed down slightly and drove smoothly out of the Lin family's gate.
