The heavy shield slammed into the zombie's face with a cracking sound, sending the zombie flying two meters before crashing to the ground, its limbs twitching as it tried to get up.

The vanguard consisted of elite veterans with extremely quick reflexes. Since they couldn't stand up, the two simply flipped their wrists, covering their bodies with their shields and curling up to take the hits.

They knew their teammates would definitely come to their aid.

Just as the shield covered their bodies, a heavy impact slammed down, so heavy that it almost made them gasp for breath. Teeth scraped against the shield, making a piercing noise, and foul-smelling saliva smeared the transparent shield surface with turbidity.

Apart from Shenhe, everyone present was too slow to react.

It wasn't until the two monsters pounced on the shield and began to tear at it that everyone could see the real thing: they were two infected golden retrievers.

But they are no longer docile. Originally, they were no more than 60 centimeters tall at the shoulder, but now they have grown to more than 1.5 meters tall. Their bodies are muscular, and their golden fur is bald in patches, revealing the black and reddish, slightly rotten flesh underneath. They make low growling noises from their throats, completely like wild beasts in a frenzy.

All the soldiers identified their targets, carefully aimed their rifles at the two zombie dogs, and fired precise bursts.

Gunfire erupted! A barrage of bullets rained down on the two zombie dogs, tearing open their exposed skin with bullet holes, ripping apart muscle fibers, and scattering bits of flesh everywhere.

Within seconds, all four leg bones were broken by stray bullets. The massive body swayed and could no longer stand. Then, several bullets pierced its head, shattering its skull. The heavy corpse tilted to one side and rolled off the shield.

The soldiers immediately stopped firing, and several ran over to pull up the two shield bearers who had been pinned down, checking them over, while others stood guard with their guns.

"How are you guys?"

"Are you hurt? Are you alright?"

"It's nothing, it's just a fall."

The two shield bearers were experienced. Apart from being a little tired from resisting, their calm expressions remained unchanged, and they only had minor abrasions from the fall.

Shenhe watched the whole process without interfering, allowing the soldiers to develop and grow freely.

The zombie, like a ball of yarn that a cat loves to play with, was slapped and rolled towards the gate with a gurgling sound.

The zombie rolled dozens of times on the ground before reaching the doorway. It had lost an arm and a leg. The smell of human flesh made it desperate to attack the soldiers, but after struggling a few times, it couldn't stand up and could only crawl forward with its remaining intact arm.

"Bang-!"

As the zombie crawled over, a soldier fired a shot, the bullet piercing the zombie's head and ending its life.
