The door hinge made a very faint creaking sound.

Jiang Yan paused for a moment, waited, and seeing that no zombies came out, she pushed the wooden door open inward with force.

The heavy wooden door slammed against the inner wall, and an overwhelming, nauseating stench immediately hit the person, a mixture of alcohol and mold that made them feel nauseous and brought tears to their eyes.

Jiang Yan frowned, held her breath, covered her mouth and nose with her hand, and took a few steps back.

Only after the outside wind blew in and dissipated some of the smell did she look up.

The door opened to reveal a long, dark corridor, devoid of neon lights or any other illumination.

The corridor overhead was filled with layers of red balloons, now shriveled and wrinkled, covered with a thick layer of dust. They collided with each other in the draft that passed through the open door, making a dry, hoarse friction sound.

The dust on it fell off due to the impact, and then drifted away with the wind, making people's noses itchy and their eyes irritated.

The mirrored walls on both sides, inlaid with purple-pink LED strips, were now dark and looked old-fashioned, covered with a layer of dust and cobwebs, so dark that not even a person's reflection could be seen.

The smooth ground was covered in dust, fresh footprints, dried blood, and several mangled corpses.

The sunlight outside could only illuminate a few meters from the entrance; the depths of the corridor were utterly plunged into darkness.

Jiang Yan stared intently into the depths of the corridor, where she could vaguely see a horrifying scene, but it was not clear.

"Wait here for me, I'll go in and take a look myself." Jiang Yan instructed the soldiers beside her, raised her gun, and walked into the corridor.

"Miss Jiang! Let us go in with you, so we can look out for each other!" The soldier behind her hurriedly called out in a low voice, taking half a step forward.

Jiang Yan didn't even turn her head. "No need. You all stay here and guard the area. If there are a lot of zombies inside, I'll lure them over. This spot is perfect for killing zombies!"

The soldiers wanted to say something more, but Jiang Yan had already gone far away. Helpless, they could only stand in pairs against the walls on both sides to keep watch.

Just then, Shenhe walked in. "I'll go in and take a look too."

"Okay, Mr. Shen! We're relieved that you can go in."

It's no wonder the soldiers were worried. Jiang Yan's gunshot wound that morning terrified everyone at the naval base. She was their only precious daughter. After Xu Zhenghui learned that Jiang Yan's gunshot wound was healed, he repeatedly ordered that she be protected.

Over here, Jiang Yan, holding a gun and activating her psychic barrier, walked step by step from the corridor into the bar lobby.

The further she went, the stronger the stench of blood became! As her eyes adjusted to the darkness, the scene before her made her eyes widen, and a layer of cold sweat broke out on her forehead.

Inside the bar, from the bar counter to the lounge, to the performance stage, from the corners to the stairwell, and to the dance floor, the place was densely packed with zombies!

There were so many that it was practically impossible to breathe!

especially!

Among the ordinary zombies, there stood a dozen or so powerful zombies, each nearly three meters tall, with bulging shoulders and backs, bulging muscles, and necks thicker than her thighs!

More than twenty speed-type zombies were clinging to the walls, ceiling, and laser and beam lights above the stage, their limbs bent at bizarre angles, like geckos, their heads slightly turned.

The ground was covered with the remains of zombie corpses, with so many fragments and debris that they formed a thick layer. Standing in it was like walking through a mud pit for the zombies. No wonder the smell of blood was so strong!

Jiang Yan couldn't imagine what had happened here, or why there were so many high-level zombies!

You should know that she had rarely seen this kind of zombie before!

So many high-level zombies can't be wiped out by simply setting up guns in the corridor, unless you have a heavy machine gun!

And there are so many of them, she can't handle them all!

Perhaps the smell of blood was too strong, because the zombies didn't smell Jiang Yan's scent. She carefully and quietly retreated, trying to leave and find a way out.

As she backed away, she bumped into someone's chest. Jiang Yan was so startled that her mouth dropped open.

The next second, her waist was wrapped around her and she couldn't move. A hand covered her mouth. Just as she was about to struggle, Shenhe's familiar voice rang in her ears.

"It's me, don't be afraid, I've let go of you."

Jiang Yan breathed a sigh of relief, leaned against Shen He's chest, and nodded.

"What did you find?"

Shenhe whispered in Jiang Yan's ear.

His hot breath hit Jiang Yan's ear, making her shiver with a ticklish sensation. She turned her head away uncomfortably, goosebumps rising on her arms.

"Go and see for yourself. Not to mention the hundreds of ordinary zombies, there are also more than forty advanced zombies! There are too many of them. We need to go out and think of a solution."

Jiang Yan looked grave; the number of mutated zombies was almost half their numbers.

Upon hearing this, Shenhe walked towards the bar's main hall.

As he turned the corner of the corridor, the scene that Jiang Yan had witnessed before came into his view again.

It's true, how come there are so many mutated zombies? I used to think encountering one or two was a lot.

He took a closer look and quickly noticed something: the clothes on the mutated zombies were covered in blood!

Looking at their mouths, the mouths of other ordinary zombies are clean, as they haven't eaten flesh and blood in a long time.

The mutated zombies here have all eaten flesh and blood, and it seems they are... zombie flesh and blood.

Mutual devouring...evolution...breeding?

Shenhe turned to Jiang Yan and whispered,

"I understand. The Zombie King gathered them together and made them devour each other to evolve into Tier 1 zombies faster. Then he used these powerful Tier 1 zombies to fight us. No wonder the Zombie King is intelligent."

Jiang Yan's face turned pale instantly.

Cannibalism drives evolution?

There are countless zombies left in the city. If they all continue to mutate and become advanced forms, the soldiers outside will not be able to stop them and will be wiped out.

"No, we have to get them out of here immediately! I'll contact Captain Xu and have them bomb this place flat with missiles."

She turned to leave as she spoke.

Shenhe reached out and grabbed her wrist, pulling her into his arms. He leaned down and whispered in her ear,

"Don't worry, this is just my guess. Maybe only this room is like this. If missiles are used to bomb it, all the houses in the city center will be destroyed."

All our efforts this morning have been wasted. Building a house takes time and money, and now it's the apocalypse, so materials are hard to find.

Those soldiers are useful too; they can clear out ordinary zombies, the helicopters' machine guns and rockets, and our superpowers can clear out mutated zombies.

Even if that doesn't work, I can open a portal and send these soldiers directly back to the fleet base.

In short, we have all avenues of retreat; we cannot lose.

Jiang Yan looked at the horde of corpses and mutants in the bar lobby, still with a worried expression. All the soldiers were her brothers and sisters, and she would be heartbroken to lose even one of them.

"But…"

She wanted to speak...

Shenhe looked helpless. Before she could say what was next, he lowered his head, his warm breath brushing against her ear, his lips lightly brushing against her ear.

"Well…"

A tingling sensation ran through Jiang Yan's neck, her whole body trembled, and her small face involuntarily lifted up, her beautiful eyes narrowing.

Those worries and anxieties were completely interrupted.
