Chapter 127 Ayako: I had a dream, Ran, you were attacked by a black bear.

"ah!!!!"

Ayako Suzuki woke up with a startled scream.

She sat up as if she had been pulled out of the water, her chest heaving violently as she gasped for breath, a fine layer of cold sweat beading on her forehead.

It took her several seconds to focus her gaze... the cave, the ashes of the fire, the light at the cave entrance.

She looked down and realized she was completely naked, wearing nothing at all.

This caused Ayako's mind to freeze for two or three seconds.

Just then, Xiaolan came over with stacks of neatly arranged clothes.

Seeing that Ayako was awake, she quickly crouched down in front of her, her voice filled with obvious concern and relief: "Ayako-neechan! You're awake! Are you alright? Is anything bothering you?"

With that, she returned the clothes to Ayako.

Ayako instinctively took the clothes and hugged them to her chest, covering herself. Her voice was still hoarse and flustered from just waking up: "I...I'm fine, but...what...what happened?"

"How...how did my clothes...?"

Xiaolan blushed slightly, but she still tried her best to recount what had happened last night in a calm and matter-of-fact tone: "After we fell off the waterfall, you and I both passed out."

"The company president dragged us ashore and found this cave. Our clothes were completely soaked, and he was afraid we would get hypothermia, so he took off our wet clothes and hung them by the fire to dry."

She paused here, her voice lowering, "Then the three of us... huddled together, keeping each other warm with our body heat."

"Because if we didn't do it this way, we might not have survived the night in that temperature and humidity..."

Ayako's hand holding the clothes froze in mid-air, completely stunned.

She blinked twice slowly, processing the information in Xiaolan's words.

Three people? Completely naked?

Leaning together? Using their body heat to keep each other warm?!

Her cheeks flushed pink at a visible speed, and she began to stammer as she spoke.

"Three...three people...gathered together?"

Xiaolan blushed and nodded, her tone tinged with helplessness: "I know it's embarrassing, but there really wasn't any other way at the time!"

"If you suffer from hypothermia, you really can die in this deep mountain forest."

Ayako remained silent for a while, looked down at the clothes in her arms, and then looked up at the light shining through the hole.

Then she sighed softly, her tone carrying a clarity born of having experienced great hardship:

"There's nothing we can do about it... It's good enough that we survived."

Ayako wasn't an unreasonable person; she knew that Lin Shen's approach was the most correct in that situation!

When faced with life and death, everything else has to take a backseat!

Survival is the most important thing!

After she finished speaking, she started getting dressed.

Ran sat beside her waiting, then, remembering something, asked curiously, "By the way, Ayako-neechan, you woke up screaming just now, were you having a nightmare?"

Ayako, who was tying her belt, nodded repeatedly upon hearing this, her tone clearly showing lingering fear:

"Hmm...I had a really scary dream."

"And this dream... is also related to you, Xiaolan."

Xiaolan was slightly taken aback, then pointed to herself: "Huh? It has something to do with me? What kind of dream was it?"

As Ayako straightened her collar, she recalled and said:

"I dreamt that when we were running away... you were at the very back and got caught by that black bear."

"It pinned you to the ground—"

Xiaolan readily chimed in, "And then?"

Ayako paused in fixing her hair, a very genuine expression of lingering fear appearing on her face:

"Then the bear would ride on top of you and slap you hard with its big paws... The slaps were so loud, just hearing them made me feel pain."

Ran looked slightly puzzled, genuinely not understanding why Ayako would dream of being attacked by a black bear.

At first, she thought it was just a dream and didn't take it to heart, saying, "Oh...Is that so? Is there anything else?"

Ayako thought for a moment, then continued, "Also, while it was fighting, it would pick you up and start biting you wildly... and you would scream in pain..."

As she spoke, she shuddered. "It was terrifying. It woke me up completely."

After hearing this, Xiaolan fell silent for a moment.

Her expression became very subtle for a moment, as if she wanted to say something but didn't know how, and finally gave a blushing, ambiguous response:

"Is that so...? Your dream... is too... too much..."

She stammered, unable to find the right words to describe it for a long time.

Ayako, oblivious to her unease, continued describing her dream: "Then you found an opportunity to try and crawl away, but the bear wouldn't let you go!!"

"It grabbed your shoulders, dragged you back, and kept hitting you... In the end, you were beaten until you cried."

"I was so terrified when I saw such a cruel scene that I woke up immediately."

Ran no longer dared to look Ayako in the eye.

She shifted her gaze towards the cave entrance, the blush on her cheeks spreading to her ears, and her voice carried a forced, deliberately relaxed tone:

"This...this dream...it was really scary...but it was just a dream!"

"Ayako-neechan!! Look at me, I'm perfectly fine now, aren't I?"

Ayako looked Ran up and down. Apart from her hair being a little messy and her face looking tired, there were no signs of injury.

She let out a long sigh of relief, patted her chest, and her tone carried a genuine sense of relief after the initial fear:

"Yes... thankfully it was just a dream."

Xiao Lan quickly stood up, her voice somewhat hurried, as if she were fleeing from a topic of conversation:

"Wait here for a moment, I'll go find the president... and tell him you're awake."

Without waiting for Ayako's reply, she quickly walked towards the cave entrance.

When she stepped out of the cave, her steps were a little unsteady, her knees were slightly weak, and her walking posture had a subtle, almost imperceptible, uncoordinated quality.

I was noticeably more careful when stepping with my left leg than with my right.

Ayako noticed this detail, but she didn't think much of it.

I just naturally assumed that Xiaolan must have twisted her leg when she fell down the waterfall, but she probably didn't say it because she was afraid I would worry!

After Xiaolan stepped out of the cave, a mountain breeze blew in her face.

A cool breeze brushed against her face, but the heat on her cheeks didn't subside much.

She stood at the cave entrance and took a few deep breaths, trying to restore her expression to normal.
