Chapter 131 Taking Xiaolan along to cause trouble

Lin Shen parked the car and followed Xiao Lan quickly into the hospital gate.

The corridor was filled with the smell of disinfectant, and the incandescent light bulbs overhead emitted a uniform hum.

Xiao Lan walked very fast, almost jogging, with Lin Shen following behind her, keeping a few steps away.

She found the ward number and pushed open the door to enter.

Kogoro Mouri was half-lying on the hospital bed.

One of his legs was in a sling, but when he saw Xiaolan come in, he immediately sat up straight, put on a carefree expression, waved his hand vigorously, and shouted in a strong voice:

"Xiao Lan, you're here!! Oh, it's nothing, it's nothing!"

"I just accidentally hurt my foot, I'll be fine after a few days of rest! Why are you all making such a fuss!"

Xiaolan stood by the bed, hands on her hips, stared at her father for two seconds, and then bluntly exposed his act:

"What do you mean you tripped and fell? You were clearly nearly strangled by the assassin who hung you up with a rope!"

As she spoke, she took a step forward and ripped open the collar that Kogoro Mouri had been covering his neck with.

A deep red mark, drawn by a thin thread, was clearly visible under the light.

The mark circled his neck completely, the skin slightly turned up, with dark purple bruises along the edges.

Kogoro Mouri was exposed on the spot, and his previous momentum vanished instantly.

He quickly reached up to cover his neck, turned his head away, and continued to feign bravado:

"What's this little injury! I, Kogoro Mouri, have seen it all!"

As he was speaking, he turned his head and saw Conan sitting in the chair next to him. He punched Conan on the head, making Conan howl.

"Conan! Why do you blurt out everything?!"

Conan clutched his head, his anger flaring up instantly: "Uncle Mori! How could you hit me?! I'm your savior!"

When he said this, his tone clearly carried a sense of self-righteousness, as if he were saying, "You need to figure out who saved whom."

Kogoro Mouri snorted, turned his head away, and muttered weakly, "That's a different matter!!"

But after he finished speaking, he secretly glanced at Xiaolan and noticed that his daughter's complexion was not very good.

He quickly switched to a fawning expression: "Oh, Xiaolan, I'm fine now, don't worry about me—"

Conan, rubbing his head beside him, added mercilessly, "What do you mean you're alright? You're being targeted by an assassin now!"

"Arresting just one assassin won't do any good; they'll just send a second one!"

Xiaolan's expression changed visibly after hearing those words.

She turned to look at Conan, her voice tinged with nervousness: "What? There will be other assassins coming?"

Kogoro Mouri quickly interrupted, "Don't listen to that Conan brat's nonsense!"

"I've handed that assassin over to Inspector Megure."

"Inspector Megure will soon be able to extract clues from him and bring everyone behind it to justice!"

Conan stood to the side, arms crossed, chuckled, and casually remarked, "If you can trust the police, pigs will fly..."

Before he could finish speaking, Kogoro Mouri's fist came down again.

"Ah—!" Conan clutched his head and took two steps back. "Why did you hit me again?!"

Ran quickly stepped forward, standing between Conan and Kogoro Mouri: "Dad! Stop hitting Conan!"

Kogoro Mouri withdrew his fist and said irritably, "This guy is spouting nonsense here, can I not fight him?"

He sat up straight, patted his chest, and said, "Anyway, that's the end of it. Don't worry, Inspector Megure will handle it."

Xiao Lan opened her mouth, wanting to say something more, but Lin Shen reached out from behind her and gently pulled her elbow.

He smiled and said, "Alright, Detective Mouri. Since you're alright, you should get some rest."

"Then we'll take our leave now."

Then he took Xiaolan's elbow and led her out of the ward.

The ward door closed gently behind them.

Conan was about to follow when Kogoro Mouri's hand moved faster than his steps.

He reached out and grabbed Conan by the back of his collar, pulling him back.

"Conan, you stay here." Kogoro Mouri lowered his voice, but his tone was unfriendly: "I have something to say to you!"

Conan was pulled back to the bedside, his expression involuntarily stiffening for a moment before he quickly put on a fawning smile: "Uncle Mori... I was wrong. I won't say anything like that again."

Kogoro Mouri wasn't buying it.

He reached out and grabbed Conan's ear, his tone threatening: "If you keep spreading rumors like this, I won't include you in my requests anymore! You hear me?"

Conan's ear was pulled to the left, and he grimaced as he repeatedly promised, "I know! I know! I won't do it again!"

Lin Shen and Xiao Lan walked out of the inpatient building, through the lobby on the first floor, and headed towards the parking lot. It was already dark, and the streetlights above the parking lot cast circles of dim yellow light.

The two people's shadows were stretched long on the ground, then shortened with their steps, moving forward in an alternating pattern.

Xiaolan didn't say much the whole way.

She kept her head down, her steps much slower than when she came, her toes lightly kicking a small pebble on the ground.

When she reached the middle of the parking lot, she finally couldn't hold back any longer. She stopped, looked up at Lin Shen, and asked in a clearly suppressed, sullen tone, "President... why did you pull me out like that?"

Lin Shen stopped and turned to look at her. "Your father doesn't want you to worry too much. Didn't you realize that?"

Xiaolan pursed her lips: "I can see it... but the problem is, if we don't find out who's behind this, then other assassins will come after Dad."

Seeing her furrowed brows, Lin Shen didn't rush to refute her, but chuckled softly: "Staying there won't solve anything."

Xiao Lan was stunned for a moment, and looking at Lin Shen's calm expression, she immediately understood what was going on!

Her eyes lit up involuntarily, and her previously low voice suddenly became filled with anticipation: "President... do you have a way to solve this problem?"

Lin Shen didn't deny it, and nodded directly: "Of course! Leave this to me. I'll take you home first, and I'll give you a satisfactory answer tomorrow."

However, after hearing this, Xiaolan did not nod in agreement as he had expected.

She hesitated for a few seconds, then looked up, her eyes filled with determination: "President... I don't want to go home. I want to go with you!!"

Lin Shen looked into her eyes and expression, and the corners of his mouth curled up slightly: "That's fine. If you feel uncomfortable, you can leave at any time."

When Xiaolan heard these words, it felt as if something had gently bumped into her heart.

She stood under the dim streetlights in the parking lot, looking at Lin Shen's smiling face, which showed no sign of forcing her, and a thought suddenly popped into her mind!

The president... is really considerate!

If Shinichi were in this situation, he would most likely say, "Go home and wait, I'll handle the dangerous stuff," and then disappear on his own, leaving her alone at home waiting, getting anxious and frustrated.

But the president wouldn't do that.

The other party will not force you to make decisions for you, nor will they use "it's for your own good" as an excuse to push you away.

All he would say was: You can participate, but if it doesn't work out, you can withdraw, and I'll cover for you.

Xiaolan nodded vigorously, her tone light and cheerful: "Yes, yes, yes! I will!!"
