Chapter 160 Not only did he not run away, he went further inside.
After leaving the tea room, Rum did not linger in the mansion for even a second longer.
He walked out along the corridor he had come from, his hands behind his back, at a leisurely pace, as if he were taking a stroll in his own backyard.
Two bodyguards in black followed behind him.
An old man hurried over from the other end of the corridor, jogging to catch up with Rum, slightly bowing as he walked beside him to see him out.
Rum spoke as he walked.
His tone was calm, as if he were recounting a trivial matter: "Uncle Kirishima, I've given you your chance. Whether you can seize it or not depends on your own abilities."
He paused, turned his head to look at the old man, and said, "If he's dead, then there's nothing to say. But if he walks out alive—"
He turned his gaze to the direction of the main gate. "You all need to stop too. Understand?"
The old man lowered his head slightly and replied respectfully, "I understand."
Rum did not respond.
He didn't turn around, but he sensed something in the old man's tone.
That kind of tone where you say "I know" but don't really care.
He was all too familiar with that tone.
After all, this was his father's old subordinate.
He has watched these people since he was a child.
Watching them grow old, watching their abilities fall behind the times.
Seeing their hearts grow smaller and their favoritism more and more severe, I still feel that I am still the elite group that was able to conquer the world back then.
Rum sighed silently to himself.
He has done everything he was supposed to do.
We've given the necessary reminders and offered the necessary leeway.
If the other party insists on jumping into the pit, then he can't stop them.
He had a gut feeling that Lin Shen was the one who would cause the Kirishima family a great loss.
Just as he was about to step out the door, a series of short, rapid gunshots could be faintly heard in the distance.
bang bang bang-
The sound came from deep within the mansion, weakened considerably by several courtyards, but still clearly audible in the quiet surroundings.
Rum did not stop.
He merely tilted his head slightly, as if to confirm the direction of the sound he heard, and then said in a low voice with a hint of emotion:
"A fight has already broken out."
The gunfire stopped as soon as he finished speaking.
To be precise, the brief first exchange had ended, and the courtyard fell into a brief silence once again.
The old man standing next to Rum smirked as the gunfire ceased.
He snorted, his tone carrying a certain confidence that said, "Just as I expected": "Alright. It's over."
Rum continued walking towards the gate, his pace unchanged.
He didn't turn around, but said in a calm and unhurried tone, "Uncle Kirishima—don't let your guard down."
He turned his head slightly, his gaze falling on the old man's wrinkled face. "I can tell that Mr. Lin is no ordinary person."
Upon hearing this, the old man's confident sneer did not disappear; instead, it intensified.
He straightened his back, his tone carrying the arrogance characteristic of an old-fashioned family: "The Kirishima family is no ordinary family either!"
"The men and women in the family begin training from a young age, and undergo further special training after adulthood, so that everyone is proficient in using various firearms!"
The old man's voice carried an undeniable confidence.
Rum did not refute him.
An organization cannot maintain its strength forever by absorbing outside stragglers.
Putting aside ability, loyalty remains an issue.
The truly prudent approach is to train our own people.
This is the logic upon which the Kirishima family survives, and the foundation upon which they stand within the organization.
Rum understands this logic and respects it.
He just felt that this logic might hit a wall today.
Just then, gunshots rang out again.
And this time, it was much more intense than the last time.
It wasn't sporadic bursts of fire, but continuous, dense, rapid-fire bursts, like someone setting off firecrackers in a courtyard, interspersed with long bursts of submachine gun fire.
Rum paused on the steps in front of the gate, listened for a moment, and then a slight smile appeared on his lips: "Looks like he's not dead yet."
The old man stood behind Rum, the sneer on his face gone.
His face turned grim, his gaze fixed darkly on the direction from which the gunshot had come. He muttered a curse under his breath, a mixture of anger and disbelief:
"They're all a bunch of useless trash; they can't even take down one person!"
No sooner had he finished speaking than a man in a black suit stumbled and ran from the depths of the courtyard.
He was breathless from running, and almost lost his footing when he reached the old man. His voice was filled with barely suppressed panic: "Master, Master—something terrible has happened!"
"After killing many of us, that man didn't run away; he charged into the mansion!"
The old man's pupils constricted sharply, and his expression changed instantly, as if he had been slapped in the face: "What? They ran inside?"
Rum, who was standing at the door, paused for a moment after hearing this.
He knew Lin Shen was bold.
But he didn't expect the other party to be so audacious.
When most people are surrounded and attacked, their first reaction is to fight their way out and run away.
But instead of running away, Lin Shen deliberately rushed into the area where the encirclement was most concentrated!
Rum stood on the steps outside the gate, unable to help but reassess Lin Shen's abilities in his mind.
The old man's face had completely darkened.
He was silent for a moment, then spoke coldly, his voice carrying a hint of ruthlessness: "It's better if he doesn't run away. If he really did, I'd have to worry about how to catch up with him."
He turned his head, his gaze sharp as a knife as he stared at the man in black who had brought the message. "Gather all your men now—at all costs, kill that kid."
The man in black nodded vigorously: "Understood!"
He stepped aside, took out his phone, and started dialing.
The old man stopped seeing Rum off. He stood in the corridor, cupped his hands in Rum's direction, and said urgently, "I won't see you off. I'm going to deal with that reckless brat first."
Rum nodded, said nothing more, and turned to walk out the door.
He got into the back seat of the black sedan, and as the door closed, he took one last look through the window at the mansion that was becoming lively, then leaned back in his seat and closed his eyes.
The car smoothly drove away from that street.
Rum closed his eyes, a faint smile playing on his lips.
He silently wondered what kind of surprise Lin Shen would bring him!
