Chapter 191 Xiaolan Fires a Shot
Just when the atmosphere in the room was so tense that it was almost suffocating, no one noticed that a "corpse" on the ground moved.
Shoji Hatamoto is not actually completely dead.
He was shot and fell to the ground, his chest aching as if it were about to burst, but he was still breathing.
He lay on the floor, squinting, and with the last bit of strength in his body, slowly stretched out his hand.
His fingers groped on the floor and found the remote control.
Xiaolan was the first person to notice him.
She was nervously staring at Ichiro Hatamoto by the door when she suddenly caught a glimpse of something moving on the ground.
She looked down and saw that Shoji Hatamoto was holding a remote control, his thumb already pressed on the red button.
Her pupils constricted sharply, and her voice trembled: "Mr. Xiang Er! What are you doing? You...you mustn't do anything rash!"
Shoji Hatamoto raised his head, a trace of blood at the corner of his mouth, a completely broken smile on his face, his voice hoarse and manic:
"Since I'm not going to live, then let's all die together! Hahaha!"
He pressed down hard with his thumb.
No one had time to react.
The next second, boom!
A huge explosion came from the bottom of the ship, and the entire luxury cruise ship shook violently, as if it had been slammed by a giant sea monster.
The chandelier in the room began to shake violently, the paintings on the wall fell down with a clatter, and the table lamp on the table overturned and rolled to the ground.
Standing at the door, Ichiro Hatamoto was thrown off balance by the sudden tremor and swayed to the side. He instinctively reached out and grabbed the door frame to steady himself.
It was in that one moment.
Lin Shen seized this opportunity.
He raised his gun, aimed, pulled the trigger, and bang!
The bullet struck the wrist of the hand holding the gun with pinpoint accuracy.
Ichiro Hatamoto screamed as the gun flew from his hand and clattered to the floor of the corridor.
Conan bit down on the back of Ichiro Hatamoto's hand.
Ichiro Hatamoto cried out in pain and released his other hand.
Conan took the opportunity to break free from his control.
Lin Shen did not fire a follow-up shot.
Without any unnecessary movements, he turned around, bent down, grabbed Xia Jiang's arm, who was still wailing, and forcefully pulled her up from the ground.
His voice was short and forceful: "Go! The ship is sinking!"
Xia Jiang continued to struggle even after he pulled her up.
She turned back to look at her grandfather's body on the ground, tears streaming down her face like a burst dam, her voice filled with a desperate cry: "I won't go! Let me stay here! I don't want to live anymore!"
She tried desperately to break free from Lin Shen's grasp and wanted to kneel back down beside the corpse.
Lin Shen didn't waste any words with her.
He bent down, put one hand under her knees and the other hand on her back, and lifted her up horizontally.
Xia Jiang was still struggling, pounding his chest with her fists and shouting, "Put me down!" But Lin Shen ignored her and turned to walk towards the door.
He took two steps with Xia Jiang in his arms, when he suddenly caught a subtle movement out of the corner of his eye: Hachimoto Hokuro, who was lying on the ground, was quietly reaching for the pistol that had been kicked away at his feet.
He moved very quietly and slowly, thinking that no one would notice him.
Lin Shen's lips curled up almost imperceptibly.
He knew he had succeeded in fishing.
He was already prepared in his mind that as soon as Hatamoto Hokuro's fingers touched the gun, he would turn around and take care of this last trouble with one shot, cleanly and neatly, leaving no future problems.
He adjusted his grip on Xia Jiang, preparing to turn and fire.
However, he never expected that someone would be faster than him.
boom!
A gunshot rang out.
The bullet struck Hokuro Hatamoto's outstretched wrist with pinpoint accuracy.
Hatamoto Hokuro let out a painful scream, his hand recoiled as if he had been electrocuted, the pistol slipped from his grasp and fell to the ground again.
He clutched his wrist, writhing on the ground in pain.
Ran stood a few steps away, her hands gripping the gun, her arms trembling slightly, but the muzzle remained steadily pointed in the direction of Hatamoto Hokuro.
Her face was a little pale, and her voice carried a hint of nervousness, but her tone was firm: "You...you're not allowed to take a gun!"
Lin Shen stood there, holding Xia Jiang, stunned.
He looked down at the man on the ground, rolling around clutching his bleeding wrist, then looked up at Ran's face, which was slightly pale with tension. He paused for a second, then couldn't help but laugh.
He lifted Xia Jiang up slightly and held him securely again, then freed one hand to give Xiao Lan a thumbs-up, his smile filled with genuine appreciation and surprise:
"Well done!"
After being praised, Xiaolan's tense white face was instantly replaced by a faint blush. She pursed her lips a little shyly, but her hand holding the gun became even more steady.
However, before they could say another word, a deafening rumble erupted!
Another explosion, even more violent than the last, caused the entire ship to shake violently once more.
This time the shaking was much more intense than before, and they could clearly feel the ship starting to tilt to one side.
One by one, the decorative panels on the ceiling fell off and shattered into powder on the floor.
A screeching sound of metal twisting came from outside the corridor, as if some huge structure was being forcibly torn apart.
Lin Shen's expression finally turned serious.
He dropped his earlier relaxed smile, his voice now carrying a genuine sense of urgency: "The situation has changed, get out of here!"
After saying that, he picked up Xia Jiang and, without any further hesitation, strode towards the door.
Without saying a word, Conan took off running closely behind him on his short legs.
Xiaolan gripped her pistol, took one last look at the still writhing and wailing Hatamoto Hokuro on the ground, gritted her teeth, turned around and chased after him.
The explosions behind them were like death knells, one after another chasing after their feet.
The entire cruise ship has begun to tilt noticeably to the right.
The corridor floor became like a slide, making it very difficult to walk on; one had to hold onto the wall to keep their balance.
The fire suppression system overhead was still spraying water, and the corridor was full of water. Stepping on it would cause splashes of water to fly up.
Conan followed closely behind Lin Shen, his short legs moving so fast that he almost slipped several times, only managing to steady himself by holding onto the wall.
Xiaolan ran at the very back, still clutching the pistol she had picked up from the bodyguard, glancing back at the corridor behind her as she ran.
The flames had spread to the end of the corridor, the orange-red light dancing on the walls, and the heat could be felt from a great distance.
"Oh no! The road ahead is blocked!" Conan shouted.
Lin Shen looked up and saw that a large section of the ceiling had collapsed at the corner of the corridor ahead. Plasterboard, metal frames, and broken pipes were piled up into a small mountain, completely blocking the passage. Black smoke was still billowing out from the gaps.
Lin Shen didn't stop, immediately turning to a side corridor on the right: "This way!"
He had just turned into the side corridor when he suddenly heard a scream behind him.
It's Xiaolan!
Lin Shen suddenly turned around.
Because of the ship's tilt and the slippery water, Xiaolan lost her footing and slid towards a hole in the floor to her right, which had been blown open by the explosion.
The edge of the hole was a torn metal plate, sharp as a knife blade, and outside the hole was the churning sea.
The ship was already listing badly, and the hole was less than three or four meters above the sea. Although falling in wouldn't kill you, in this chaotic situation, the chances of being swept into the hull or hit by floating debris were very high.
Xiaolan's body had already slid to the edge of the hole.
Her hands gripped a protruding metal plate at the edge of the opening tightly, her lower body suspended above the sea. The sea breeze rushed up from below, making her skirt flutter loudly.
The gun slipped from her hand and flew out, rolling and clanging all the way to the other end of the corridor.
Her fingers slid across the wet, slippery metal plate, her knuckles turning white from the effort, her face etched with fear.
"President—!" she cried out, her voice filled with an instinctive plea for help.
Lin Shen did not hesitate at all.
He pushed Xia Jiang, who was in his arms, toward Conan and said, "Hold her up," before shooting off like an arrow.
He rushed to the edge of the hole in two quick steps, knelt on one knee, leaned forward, and firmly grabbed Xiaolan's wrist with one hand.
His hand was strong, gripping her slender wrist like an iron clamp.
"Don't let go." Lin Shen's voice was steady, a stark contrast to the surrounding explosions and the sound of metal tearing apart.
Xiao Lan looked up and saw Lin Shen's face, which appeared exceptionally calm in the firelight. Her wildly beating heart inexplicably calmed down a bit.
She nodded vigorously.
Lin Shen did not pull her up directly.
Because the metal plates along the edge of the hole were too sharp, pulling her up directly could easily cut her legs.
He adjusted his posture, reached down with his other hand, and slipped it under Xiaolan's knees. Then, using his waist and abdomen, he lifted her up from the cave entrance.
Xiao Lan felt her body lighten, her vision flipped, and the next second she was firmly in Lin Shen's arms, away from that dangerous cave entrance.
She was stunned for a moment before realizing that she had been saved.
Her hands instinctively wrapped around Lin Shen's neck, her whole body was still trembling slightly, her breathing was rapid and unstable, and her heart was beating so fast it felt like it was going to jump out of her throat.
She buried her face in Lin Shen's shoulder, her voice trembling with relief, "Th...thank you, President..."
Lin Shen held her for two seconds to make sure she was alright before putting her down.
He glanced down at her, a teasing smile in his voice: "Watch your step next time you walk."
Xiaolan's face flushed red instantly after he said that, whether from the shock she had just experienced or something else, it was hard to tell.
She lowered her head and softly hummed in agreement.
Conan, who was supporting Xia Jiang, felt a pang of jealousy upon seeing this scene, but since it was clearly not the time to make sarcastic remarks, he wisely kept quiet.
"Alright, stop dawdling," Lin Shen turned around, walked back to Conan's side, and took Xia Jiang back into his arms. "The boat is about to break down, let's go."
The four men weaved through the flames and thick smoke, finally reaching the lifeboat on the port side before the deck broke apart.
