Chapter 240 Yukiko persuades Yusaku
Yukiko adjusted her expression, smiled, and pushed open the door to go inside.
The scene in the ward was harmonious; sunlight streamed in through the window and fell on the white sheets.
Asai Narumi sat at a desk by the window, a laptop in front of her, her fingers flying across the keyboard, the screen filled with dense text.
Yusaku Kudo leaned against the headboard, watching the writer type and occasionally offering corrections.
Yukiko glanced at the screen, then at Yusaku, and said with a smile, "Oh, Dr. Asai, you've really worked hard."
"Not only do you have to take care of patients, but you also have to type for them. Being a doctor must be too tiring!"
Asai Narumi looked up and saw Yukiko come in. She smiled and waved her hand, "It's no trouble at all. Anyway, there aren't many patients at the clinic. I'm just killing time."
"Mr. Kudo dictates, and I type it all out... Plus, I get to learn how to write novels!"
As she spoke, she stood up and tactfully gave up her seat, saying, "You two chat, I'll go check today's medical records."
He nodded to Yukiko, then left the ward and gently closed the door behind him.
The moment the door closed, Yukiko's smile changed.
She crossed her arms, her tone carrying a hint of feigned displeasure: "Oh dear... did I come at the wrong time?"
"Did I interrupt your time for brainstorming?"
She deliberately pouted, her tone slightly sour, sounding like she was jealous.
But she knew in her heart that she was acting.
She had to appear "a little angry" for it to look natural.
If she walks in all smiles, it might actually make Yusaku suspicious.
Yusaku immediately tensed up, quickly putting down his teacup: "Yukiko, you're getting the wrong idea again!"
"I just asked Dr. Asai to help me with the typing. The deadline is in a few days, and I still need tens of thousands of words. It would be a real problem if I didn't finish!"
Yukiko snorted, "Oh, really? You two seemed to be having a good chat. I overheard you at the door just now, saying things like 'You write so well,' and 'I don't want to be discharged from the hospital...'"
"What? You can't write anything at home with me, but you can get inspiration when you write with other people outside?"
Upon hearing this, Yusaku was completely bewildered: "No, no! You've misunderstood!"
"Dr. Asai is a professional doctor; she understands medical matters."
"I write detective novels, and many cases involve autopsies and medical knowledge. Having a professional doctor by my side to help me with the research and development process greatly improves efficiency."
"Really, it's purely a professional working relationship!"
Yukiko continued humming, turned her head away, and remained silent.
Seeing her expression, Yusaku quickly added a few more kind words: "Besides, how can anyone else compare to your place in my heart?"
"Dr. Asai is your partner, and you're your wife. How can those be the same thing?"
Yukiko suppressed a laugh, pretended to consider his explanation for a moment, and finally relented: "Hmph, I knew you wouldn't have the guts."
Yusaku let out a long sigh of relief and wiped away non-existent sweat.
He quickly changed the subject: "By the way, how was your trip to Izu? Did you have fun?"
Yukiko placed the fruit on the table, pulled up a chair and sat down, her expression suddenly turning serious: "What's there to be happy about? Something terrible has happened."
Yusaku was taken aback: "What happened?"
Yukiko lowered her voice and recounted what had happened in Izu.
From Tomizawa Tetsuji being kidnapped by the CIA, to Lin Shen intervening and taking down all the CIA agents, to the CIA agents being imprisoned in the wine cellar and then being rescued the next evening during dinner, he recounted everything in one breath.
After hearing this, Yusaku was completely devastated.
His hand, holding the teacup, froze in mid-air for a long moment before he lowered it: "You mean... the CIA? They kidnapped Chairman Tomizawa, and then President Hayashi single-handedly took care of all the CIA agents?"
Yukiko nodded: "I know this sounds outrageous, but Shin-chan saw it with his own eyes."
"Those guys were CIA agents, the highly trained kind. They didn't even last a second against Lin Shen!!"
Yusaku remained silent for a while, as if processing the information.
After a long pause, he finally spoke: "And then what? Did those CIA agents who escaped come looking for us again?"
Yukiko shook her head: "I don't know what happened after that... but I feel like this matter won't end like this."
She paused, then seemed to remember something, and her tone became more natural: "Oh right, after I came back, President Lin said he wanted to open an artist management agency and wanted me to help him run it."
"I said I'd come back and discuss it with you."
Yusaku frowned, his tone tinged with caution: "President Lin... this person has an unclear background and has offended the CIA."
Getting too close to him isn't a good thing.
Yukiko disagreed, saying instead, "That's true, but what about Shinichi?"
"He's very close to Lin Shen!"
She paused, then lowered her voice further: "And besides, he... opened an artist management agency, frankly speaking, to launder money!"
Yusaku wasn't particularly surprised when he heard this.
He sighed softly, "I guess so. When someone who owns a coffee shop suddenly wants to get into the entertainment industry, that's most likely the reason."
He thought for a moment and said, "For safety's sake, it's better to refuse."
Yukiko shook her head, her tone firm: "No, I think we should agree."
Yusaku looked at her with some surprise.
Yukiko took a deep breath and organized her thoughts: "Think about it, since Lin Shen was able to save Tomizawa Tetsuji from the CIA, I don't need to elaborate on his abilities, right?"
"He's really strong. If I go and help him manage his agency, he'll probably help Shin-chan out of consideration for our collaboration."
"And..." she paused, a hint of nostalgia in her voice, "After all these years, I also want to go back to the entertainment industry."
"I know that place well, I understand all the rules... I want to go back."
Yusaku remained silent.
He looked at Yukiko for a long while before speaking: "That place... is very dangerous."
Yukiko nodded: "I know. The entertainment industry is never a peaceful place, but I'm not going there alone!"
"Don't I have President Lin backing me up?"
"This will also allow us to see just how capable he really is."
As she spoke, she glanced at Yusaku again and sighed, "And... Yusaku, are you thinking of investigating that black-clad organization?"
Yusaku paused for a moment, then slowly smiled: "Looks like nothing can be hidden from you."
Yukiko raised her chin smugly: "Of course, you're just like Shinichi. I can see right through your little schemes."
Yusaku lowered his head and thought for a long time.
The room fell silent for a while. Finally,
He seemed to have made up his mind, looking up at Yukiko: "Alright. Since you want to go, then go. But there's one thing you must remember."
"Put your own safety first."
"If you encounter danger, get out of there immediately, don't worry about cooperation or anything like that."
Yukiko nodded, her tone very serious: "Yes, I know."
She stood up, stretched, and her tone became relaxed again: "Then it's settled! When I get back, I'll go back and tell President Lin to finalize this."
Yusaku smiled as he looked at her renewed energy: "Why do you seem so energetic all of a sudden?"
Yukiko blinked, her tone playful: "Of course, I can't let my talent go to waste."
She chatted for a few more minutes, then waved and left the ward.
The smile on Yukiko's face faltered slightly the moment the door closed gently behind her.
She stood in the corridor and gently exhaled.
She finally convinced Yusaku.
But she knew in her heart that she agreed to help Lin Shen not entirely for legitimate reasons such as safety, the entertainment industry, or money laundering.
She didn't tell Yusaku about what happened last night.
Not a single word was mentioned.
She didn't even know what she was thinking.
But I'm not going to think about it anymore.
Let's take a step by step.
Inside the hospital room, Yusaku leaned against the headboard, looking at the sky outside the window, and remained silent for a while.
He picked up the laptop from the bedside table, placed his fingers on the keyboard, but hesitated for a long time before putting them down.
After a long pause, he finally spoke: "It seems that after finishing this book, I'll have to find a reason to take a break from updating for a while."
He gently closed his laptop, looked out the window, and fell into deep thought.
