The curtains in the hotel room were drawn tightly shut.

Mingmei and Xiaolan were lying in bed, sleeping soundly.

Xiaolan had just turned over and pulled the blanket tighter around herself when suddenly a series of loud noises came from outside—

Bang bang bang bang!

It's not firecrackers.

It was the sound of gunfire.

And it wasn't just one or two shots, but a continuous series of gunshots, interspersed with booming explosions, shaking the windowpanes.

The sound came from afar, growing closer and closer, as dense as if someone had thrown a whole string of firecrackers into a metal bucket, but it was more muffled, more heavy, and more chilling.

Xiaolan suddenly jumped out of bed, her face turning pale instantly.

She instinctively grabbed Mingmei's arm, her voice trembling with panic: "Mingmei-nee... what... what's that sound? Outside... why does it sound like a war is going on outside?"

Mingmei was also awakened by the sudden noise, and her heart beat faster for a moment.

But she was no ordinary girl; she had seen real guns and live ammunition more than once.

After a brief moment of panic, Akemi quickly forced herself to calm down.

She didn't answer Xiaolan's question, but instead listened to the sounds outside.

The gunfire was dense and rhythmic, and the explosions were spaced out regularly, so it didn't sound like random, disorganized shooting.

She roughly knew what was going on.

She didn't voice her judgment, but instead reached out and pulled Xiaolan into her arms, gently patting her back and comforting her in a tender tone, "Don't be afraid... the sound was definitely gunfire."

"It's okay, we'll stay in the room and not go out, there won't be any danger."

Xiao Lan felt a warm and reassuring sense of security as she was held in her arms.

From childhood to adulthood, Eri Kisaki was rarely by her side, and the feeling of being embraced by an older woman was both unfamiliar and reassuring to her.

She leaned on Akemi's shoulder and nodded obediently, "Mmm...mmm!"

But she quickly looked up again, a layer of worry on her face: "Akemei-nee... Dad and Conan are still outside, and so is President Hayashi... Will they be in danger?"

Upon hearing this, Mingmei thought to herself: I can't say for sure about your father and Conan's situation, but as for Lin Shen—the gunshots you're hearing now might very well be caused by him.

Of course, she wouldn't say that aloud; she just smiled and reassured them, "Don't worry, we can just send them a text message and ask, right?"

Ran quickly picked up her phone, her fingers trembling slightly as she typed a few words, sending messages to Conan and Kogoro Mouri respectively: "Dad, we heard a lot of gunshots over here. Are you and Conan alright? Be careful!"

There was no reply from Conan, nor from Kogoro Mouri.

She stared at the screen for a long time, growing increasingly uneasy.

Mingmei also took out her phone and sent Lin Shen a short message: "There are gunshots outside, are you okay?"

After sending the message, she held her phone in her hand without staring at it for a while.

The two of them sat on the edge of the bed, waiting quietly.

The gunfire outside continued for quite some time, with several particularly dense bursts of fire and a few huge explosions, which made the ceiling lights sway slightly.

Then gradually, the gunfire became sparse, the intervals became longer and longer, and finally it stopped completely.

The sound of the explosion also disappeared.

Outside the window, only the faint sound of distant waves and the occasional cry of a seabird could be heard.

Xiaolan looked up and asked softly, "Mingmei...it seems like it's stopped? Should we go out and check?"

Mingmei thought for a moment, then pressed her shoulder and said, "Wait here for a bit, I'll go to the balcony and take a look."

She got up and walked to the balcony. Instead of pushing the door open directly, she squatted down, lowered her body, and carefully pulled back a corner of the curtain to peek out through the glass window.

In that one glance, her pupils contracted slightly.

The sight downstairs at the hotel left her completely stunned.

She had imagined a scene of police cars surrounding the area and people shouting warnings—but reality was far more dramatic than she had imagined.

The plaza in front of the hotel looked as if it had been plowed through by a small war.

The flower bed was reduced to ruins, with shattered concrete blocks scattered all over the ground, and the plants inside were charred black.

Several figures dressed in black combat uniforms lay motionless on the ground, lying haphazardly.

The ground was covered with countless golden bullet casings, which reflected dazzling light under the sun.

There were also several shallow craters created by the grenades, with the asphalt pavement around the edges rolled up and wisps of smoke rising from them.

One SUV was even completely overturned, upside down with all four wheels in the air and all the windows shattered.

Mingmei watched with a pounding heart.

She took a deep breath, drew the curtains, turned back to the bedside, and whispered to Xiaolan, "Xiaolan, come and take a look."

Xiaolan got off the bed, stumbled when her feet touched the ground, and swayed.

But Akemi didn't think much of it, simply assuming that Ran was too scared and that's why her legs were weak.

Xiaolan steadied herself by holding onto the edge of the bed, then quickly walked to the balcony, squatted down like Mingmei, and peered outside—

Her eyes widened instantly, her mouth slightly agape, and it took her a long time to manage to utter a single sentence: "What...what happened? Why...why does it look like there's been a war?"

Mingmei took her hand and led her back from the balcony, her tone much more serious than before: "The situation outside is still unclear. Let's stay in the room for a while and go out when it's definitely safe."

Xiaolan nodded vigorously; she now also felt that staying in her room was the best option at the moment.

The two sat in the room for about ten more minutes. No more gunshots or explosions were heard outside. Only the faint sound of police sirens and shouts could be heard from afar.

Then, there was a sudden knock on the door—knock knock knock.

Both of them were startled by the sudden knocking.

Mingmei and Xiaolan exchanged a glance. Mingmei gestured for her to be quiet, then tiptoed to the door and looked out through the peephole—the anxiety that had been weighing on her finally subsided.

Lin Shen stood outside the door, his hair still a little wet, as if he had just taken a shower, and he was wearing a clean change of clothes.

Mingmei quickly opened the door and let him in.

"Mr. Lin! Are you alright?" Mingmei looked him up and down, and only breathed a sigh of relief after confirming that he had no injuries. Then, she lowered her voice and quickly asked, "What...what happened outside?"

Lin Shen's gaze passed over Mingmei and fell on Xiaolan, who was walking towards him. He then replied in a very natural tone, "I'm not quite sure about the specifics either."

"I was taking a shower in my room when I heard loud banging outside. I was so scared that I quickly got dressed and hid for a while. I only dared to come out after the noise stopped."

Ran stepped forward, her face clearly showing anxiety: "President Lin! My dad and Conan are still outside. I sent them text messages, but they haven't replied yet..."

Lin Shen glanced at her, his tone softening slightly: "Don't worry too much. When I went upstairs just now, I saw that the police were already handling the scene downstairs. The situation outside should be stable now. Let's go downstairs together and go find them."

When Mingmei heard Lin Shen say this, she immediately understood—she was safe.

Since he could come back so easily and say "go downstairs and look," it means that he has already taken care of all the trouble.

The three of them walked out of the room together and took the elevator downstairs.

The elevator doors slowly opened as they reached the lobby—the sight that greeted them made Akemi and Ran gasp simultaneously.

A large number of tables and chairs were overturned in the hotel lobby, and the floor was littered with shards of broken glass and scattered items. Dark red bloodstains remained on the marble floor, and several medical personnel in white uniforms were squatting on the ground providing emergency treatment to the injured.

The air was filled with a faint smell of gunpowder mixed with the odor of disinfectant.

Ran's gaze swept quickly across the hall, and she soon spotted a familiar figure—Inspector Megure.

He was standing in a corner of the hall, looking exhausted as he spoke to an SAT official.

She quickly jogged over to inquire about the situation.

After Xiaolan walked away, Mingmei moved closer to Lin Shen and lowered her voice to a level that only the two of them could hear: "Mr. Lin, what exactly happened? Tell me the details so I know how to cooperate with you next."

Lin Shen's gaze was fixed on Ran, who was talking to Inspector Megure in the distance. His lips barely moved as he spoke quickly in the same low voice, "The SAT has begun searching the hotel rooms."

"Our money and gold bars are still inside the house and we haven't had time to move them. I can't let them find them."

"So I simply created the illusion that 'prisoners were escaping' to divert their attention."

He paused for a moment, "I pretended to board the passenger ship leaving Moonshadow Island, but jumped into the sea halfway and switched to a yacht to come back...that's when my hair got wet."

After hearing this, Mingmei felt a huge weight lifted off her shoulders.

She nodded gently, her expression relaxing considerably: "I see... Thank you for your hard work."

Lin Shen waved his hand: "It's alright. Let's go, let's go lend a hand and help treat the wounded or something."

Mingmei followed behind Lin Shen, watching his back, and couldn't help but twitch her lips slightly.

She silently thought to herself: Aren't these the people you injured? You went to help... This scene just doesn't feel right.

But she didn't say anything and quickly followed after him.
