Country Love: Xie Dajiao, 37, is pregnant!
Chapter 20: I'm practically falling apart.
Lin Chen looked down at the woman in his arms, whose eyes were darting around in a panic, and slowly moved his fingers up her wrist.
Seeing her eyelashes trembling in panic and her breathing completely disordered, he could no longer suppress his emotions. He lowered his head and leaned down, sealing off all her panicked breathing.
Xie Dajiao felt weak all over, and the hand that was originally pressed against his chest slowly fell limply. She subconsciously clenched the man's vest in front of her and leaned completely into his arms.
Lin Chen steadily supported her limp body, carrying her horizontally, and led her step by step towards the inner room.
The lights were off in the inner room; the darkness amplified all the senses…
Suddenly, it started raining in Ivory Mountain Village!
The rain was so fine and dense, like a giant wet net, that it completely covered the entire village.
It didn't start as a torrential downpour, but rather a sticky drizzle that made people feel tense and uneasy, as if someone was squeezing their heart.
The dirt road at the village entrance had long since turned into a muddy mess.
The once dry and hard weeds are now surrounded by mud and water.
A large black dog ran by with its tail between its legs, its thick paws immediately sinking into the mud. When it pulled them out, it made a muffled "squeak, squeak" sound, leaving deep, round holes.
When the old yellow ox in the village came home, its hooves were wide and heavy. Stepping on the mud felt like stepping on glue. With each step, it had to tighten the muscles on the inside of its thighs to pull its heavy feet out of the highly suctiony mud.
A deep trench was plowed into the road surface, and murky mud bubbled and churned, exuding a damp, earthy smell.
The earthy smell wasn't unpleasant; in fact, it made the atmosphere under the sky even more chaotic.
The roadside drainage ditches were already full, and the heavy rain splashed on the ground, creating foam. The murky rainwater swirled and rushed downhill.
There was no other smell in the air except for the fishy smell of old, earthy soil that had been soaked in water for years, which went straight into my nostrils.
The rain stops and the wind ceases; this is the norm in Ivory Mountain now.
……
Xie Dajiao felt all her strength drained away, and she became as limp as a pool of spring water, curling up completely in Lin Chen's broad, warm embrace, her face pressed against his firm, heaving chest, listening to his steady, powerful heartbeat.
She wiped away her tears, then gently twirled the fabric of his shirt around his neck, every little movement exuding an irrepressible languid charm.
Xie Dajiao tilted her head back and leaned closer to him, her voice hoarse, with a unique, languid tremor that was captivating.
"That just... scared me to death."
She breathed softly, her nose brushing against Lin Chen's chin, her eyes filled with dependence, focused solely on the man before her.
"You can't do that anymore, I'm about to fall apart."
Lin Chen held a cigarette in one hand, while the other hand gently encircled her waist, softly comforting her with a deep, husky, and exceptionally magnetic voice:
"Who told you to come here in the middle of the night?"
Xie Dajiao's face burned even hotter at those words. She gently punched his chest, and after a moment, she calmed her breathing and slowly began to talk about the trivial matters that had happened in the village during the day.
"At noon today, my cousin Li Daguo drove a truck to the store to deliver goods."
She whispered slowly in his ear, making Lin Chen's ears tingle slightly.
"Guess what? He looked up and saw Wang Xiaomeng passing by, his eyes widened, and he immediately started pestering me to help him find a match for Wang Xiaomeng."
Lin Chen casually lit a cigarette, his tone languid and indifferent, and asked casually:
"Oh? What kind of person is Li Daguo?"
"Li Daguo may seem pretentious, but he's ambitious and not a bad person at heart. He's much better than Xie Yongqiang. Xie Yongqiang is too weak-willed and listens to his father's nonsense. If Xiaomeng really dates him and marries into the Xie family, she'll suffer endless grievances. But with Li Daguo, she can live a peaceful life."
Lin Chen nodded and said:
"Okay, then just give me a presentation. Why are you asking me?"
"I was just worried that you'd be getting close to Wang Laoqi's family, and that you might have feelings for Wang Xiaomeng, since that girl is quite pretty."
"I have no feelings for Xiaomeng. She's a decent person, and being with me would be beneath her."
"Don't talk about yourself like that. In my heart, you're the fiercest... no, you're the best."
Lin Chen patted her ample bosom:
"Stop talking nonsense, what else is there?"
Xie Dajiao nodded and continued:
"Wang Changgui also came to the store and chatted with me for a long time about Xiangxiu."
"Xiangxiu, that girl, has had her heart set on you for a long time."
"She was helping Xie Yongqiang, who was drunk, when she bumped into you. When she came back, she locked herself in her room and cried. She wouldn't eat dinner. Changgui even asked me what to do about it."
At this point, she tilted her head back, her eyes holding a hint of probing:
"Guess what I said?"
Lin Chen simply smiled and said confidently:
"You'll definitely make her choose Xie Yongqiang."
Having her thoughts read at a glance, Xie Dajiao didn't try to hide it and readily admitted it, then snuggled even closer into his arms:
"Yes, I made her choose Xie Yongqiang. Xiangxiu is young but ambitious. I specialize in this kind of work and I'm good at judging people. She's not suitable for you."
Lin Chen responded calmly:
"It had nothing to do with me in the first place. Even if this hadn't happened, I wouldn't have contacted her."
These words reassured Xie Dajiao considerably. After a moment of silence, she brought up another matter:
"By the way, I mentioned you to my niece, Xie Xiaomei."
"I told her all your conditions: you're capable, you came back from a big city, you're rich, and you're good-looking."
Her fingers circled around Lin Chen's muscles:
"She neither refused nor agreed, only saying that she has been busy with work lately and can't get away. She said that she will arrange for you two to meet when she is free in a couple of days. My niece is pretty and from the city, a perfect match for you."
Upon hearing this, Lin Chen suddenly tightened his grip and gently pinched her chin, causing Xie Dajiao to tremble. She loved this domineering aura, and her body instantly softened a bit.
His tone was languid, with a hint of deliberate perfunctoriness, his gaze remaining fixed on the woman in his arms:
"I'm not interested. Besides, if she said that, it means she doesn't mean it that way either, so don't worry about it."
"I'm going to be overseeing the renovations here, and there are so many trivial things to do every day that I have no time to go on blind dates or find a partner."
Hearing this, Xie Dajiao nodded, showing great understanding.
"Okay, then I won't mention it again. I'll listen to you."
After their tender moment, she finally had the mind to look around at the dilapidated house, her brows furrowing slightly.
"You really need to fix this house. It's so dilapidated. It's drafty from all sides, damp and stuffy in the summer, and the north wind blows straight into the house in the winter. You're supposed to live in the village for at least five years. Living in this house will ruin your health sooner or later."
"So I plan to completely renovate the whole yard, do it all at once, money is no object, I want to make it the best yard in the whole village, so that people can live comfortably."
Xie Dajiao immediately patted her chest and took on all the responsibilities, saying with a smile:
"Don't worry about this, leave it all to me!"
"Don't bother, I don't need these odd jobs in the village."
Lin Chen's tone was straightforward, without beating around the bush:
"I'm afraid the craftsmen in the village are too rough. They rely on experience to do wiring, tiling, and carpentry, without any standards. I want my house to be the best in the village. If their skills can't keep up, there will be many problems after living in it."
Xie Dajiao was taken aback, and quickly whispered a word of advice:
"Hey Xiaochen, when we build or renovate houses in the countryside, we always hire villagers. If outside renovation teams come to the village, the travel and labor costs are much higher, and it's just a waste of money."
