Did Miss become a nun today?

Chapter 10 Afraid she'd dislike it

Wei Zhao was dressed in military uniform, probably due to years of exposure to wind and sun. Unlike the young masters in the capital, he had fair skin, a high and straight nose, and deep-set features. Just standing there, he exuded the majesty of a battlefield general.

"General Wei is looking for me?"

He hesitated for a moment, then handed her a box. "I'm sorry, Wei Lin is spoiled at home and has caused you trouble. This is to apologize."

Before she could speak, Wei Zhao clasped his hands in a salute, "It's not safe outside, Miss Xie, it's better if you stay in the courtyard, there's no shortage of manpower."

After saying that, he turned and left, not giving her any chance to speak, coming and going in a hurry.

Because of Wei Zhao's words, Xie Yun Chu did not go out. Instead, she sent someone to check first. If there was really no need for help, she would not cause any trouble.

Upon opening the box, one finds some silver notes and a gold hairpin.

"This young General Wei is really generous," Lan Yue couldn't help but exclaim in surprise.

"Would you like to accept it, Miss?"

"Since it's been delivered, we should accept it."

Wei Lin is really outrageous, targeting her time and time again; these silver notes are not enough.

Although she was devoted to Buddhism, monks also need to eat and don't mind having too much money.

He handed the box to Lan Yue to put away, and since he wasn't going out, he decided to copy the scriptures.

A few more days passed, and life went on as usual: chanting sutras, worshipping Buddha, copying scriptures, and helping with chores at the nunnery—peaceful but fulfilling.

That night, Xie Yun Chu suddenly woke up from her dream and turned her head to see someone standing by her bed. Before she could make a sound, her lips were covered.

The person leaned down and whispered in her ear, "Don't make a sound, there are people outside."

Xie Yun Chu immediately broke out in a cold sweat, slowly nodded, and couldn't help but purse her lips. The large hand on her face stiffened for a moment, then immediately released its grip.

"It's not safe here, let's leave."

Without a word, she got up, put on her coat, and got off the bed. "Then let's go quickly."

In the darkness, Wei Zhao remained silent for a moment, then asked in confusion, "General Wei?"

"Um."

"Weren't you leaving?"

The man softened his voice, "You believe me?"

"General Wei is a hero who protects our country, so of course I trust you."

Wei Zhao's reputation was quite well-known in the capital, she had no doubt about it.

The two carefully came out of the room, and Wei Zhao closed the door again.

Xie Yun Chu wanted to go find Lan Yue and the others, but the man stopped her, saying, "Don't worry, they'll be fine. My men are nearby."

If they'll be fine, why did she come out? They all live in the same courtyard.

However, there must be a reason for doing so, so she didn't ask any further questions.

Reaching the wall, Wei Zhao looked down at her and said, "Excuse me."

Having said that, their waists tightened slightly, and in a dizzying moment, the two of them leaped over the wall.

She lost her balance for a moment, and the person beside her pulled her arm away, leading her along the wall to a corner where the moonlight couldn't reach.

Just as she was about to speak, a finger was placed against her lips.

"They're here."

The moonlight was as white as snow, and several figures could be clearly seen darting out of the darkness and scaling the wall.

She listened carefully, but there wasn't much noise coming from inside the courtyard; she didn't even hear the door being pushed open.

The men in black, finding no one in the room, realized they had been exposed and quickly withdrew, without alerting Lan Yue and the others in the next room.

Once the others emerged, Wei Zhao waved to the darkness, and the person hidden in the shadows quickly followed.

Xie Yun Chu finally breathed a sigh of relief. She had been too nervous to notice anything amiss in their position. Now that she had come to her senses, she realized that she had been leaning against Wei Zhao's chest with her back pressed against him. She quickly took two steps forward.

"Thank you, General Wei."

Wei Zhao didn't say much, only grunted in response, and went into the courtyard first.

The house was ransacked, as if they were looking for something.

The neighbors were finally woken up by the commotion outside. When they came out and saw so many people, they were startled.

"Miss, are you alright?"

Xie Yun Chu shook her head. "I'm fine, thanks to General Wei."

Wei Zhao looked at the mess in the room and fell into deep thought. After a long while, he said, "These people came for you."

Yes, they came in and went straight to this room, and even though no one was there, they ransacked the place.

"Miss Xie, have you offended anyone? Or made enemies with anyone?"

Xie Yun Chu pondered for a moment, but couldn't think of anyone in the capital she didn't get along with.

Even if there was a grudge, what did she have that would make these people come in the middle of the night?

Seeing that she did not speak, Wei Zhao did not ask any further questions. He bowed to her again and said, "Today's matter was urgent, and I have offended you. I hope you will forgive me, Miss."

"General Wei, you flatter me. I am truly grateful for your help today."

She didn't know the purpose of the visitor; if it weren't for Wei Zhao, she would have been in danger today.

After tidying up the room, Wei Zhao took his leave. "My men will be guarding outside tonight, so you can sleep soundly, Miss."

Thank you.

After everyone left, Lan Yue and Qing Luo stood in front of her without saying a word.

"Miss, please punish me. How could I not have noticed something so serious?"

Xie Yun Chu chuckled, "Those people came prepared, it's normal that you didn't notice them. It's alright, you can all go back to sleep."

"But......"

"It's getting late, go and get some rest, I'm going to sleep too."

The two women withdrew, and Granny Li wanted to say something, but in the end she didn't speak.

After leaving the house, he stood there stunned for a long time, looked at the full moon in the sky, and put his hands together in prayer.

"God bless, God bless."

Wei Zhao went out the door and then turned back to look at the courtyard behind him. The lights inside the house were already off, but the unique fragrance of a woman on him lingered for a long time.

He usually dealt with his brothers in the military and rarely interacted with women; this was the first time he had been so close to a woman.

He clenched his fist tightly; that hand had just been around her waist. That waist... was soft and slender, unlike a man's; it would probably break if he squeezed it even lightly.

He suddenly felt a little breathless. Just now, the two of them had been standing in the corner, and her soft body had been pressed against his chest. She smelled sweet, even her breath smelled sweet.

It was inconvenient to take a bath in the temple these past few days, so he was too lazy to do so in order to save himself the trouble.

At that moment, fearing she might find it offensive, he moved back a little.

But... she doesn't seem to remember him.

Realizing what he was thinking, Wei Zhao immediately snapped out of it and asked his adjutant, "Where are the people we captured?"

"Reporting to the general, they are currently being held in the side hall; no one has escaped."

Wei Zhao said coldly, "Go and take a look."

Before the group even reached the side hall, someone inside suddenly rushed out, shouting, "General, something terrible has happened! All those men in black are dead!"

"Dead?"

"They must have been suicide soldiers. Realizing there was no way to escape, they took poison and committed suicide. General, please forgive me; it was my negligence."

Wei Zhao went in and took a look, but didn't say anything. He just had the body carried out.

"General, something is amiss."

He knew perfectly well that a group of mysterious assassins were after a woman. Either they had the wrong person, or the woman possessed something they wanted.

But how could a little girl who lost both parents at a young age possibly offend these people?
