Chapter 141 The Wedding Procession

The two ran toward each other. Fan Liuer opened her arms to hug Siqing, but Siqing was holding a torch and could not get close.

Siqing casually shoved the torch into Feng Xu's hands and then embraced Fan Liuer.

"Madam Fan, I was so worried about you."

Fan Liuer hugged Siqing back and said with emotion, "I was able to get out so smoothly thanks to you."

The two embraced and poured out their hearts to each other; to an outsider, it would seem as if they hadn't seen each other for years.

Feng Xu, growing impatient, reminded the two, "Can't we go home and talk about this first?"

Siqing then realized, "Right, right, let's talk about it when we get home, it's too cold outside." With that, Siqing pulled Fan Liuer and walked into the village.

"Madam Fan, watch your step, the road in the village is uneven."

It was still dark, and with only a torch, they couldn't see the whole village. Fan Liuer followed Siqing, her steps uneven.

Feng Xujia arrived first and stopped in front of a stilted house by the roadside, where a fire was lit.

Feng Xu pointed to Fan Liuer and said, "Sister Liuer, this is my home."

Siqing chimed in, "Just two more steps and I'll be at my house."

The three continued walking forward. It was indeed not far, just ten meters away from Feng Xu's house, there was another stilted house, slightly larger than Feng Xu's, but not by much.

The house was brightly lit, and people were already standing outside waiting.

As soon as the two appeared, the people waiting in front of the house came to greet them.

Judging by their age, they must be Siqing's parents.

"Siqing is back? This must be Madam Fan." Siqing's mother walked up and waved to Fan Liuer with a smile. "Come, come, come inside. Siqing said you are very afraid of the cold. I have a fire burning in the house, it's warm."

Siqing's father had already walked up and said with a smile, "Yes, come in quickly, Siqing's mother has already cooked breakfast."

After saying that, he turned to Feng Xu and said, "Xiao Xu, go and call your parents over for breakfast. After they've eaten, then you can clean up."

"Okay!" Feng Xu replied, immediately turning around and running home. His voice carried even before he arrived.

"Dad! Mom! Come to Uncle's house for dinner!"

The sound was so loud that it echoed throughout the entire village.

Siqing's father was so angry that he yelled at him, "You little brat, you've woken up the whole village!"

Fan Liuer found it amusing; she was the youngest in her family, with no younger siblings, and now she found Feng Xu quite amusing.

"Don't pay any attention to him, he's like a crazy monkey." Siqing said with disgust, and took her arm as they went inside.

Inside the house were a man and a woman. The woman was sitting on a stool with a cradle on each side, trying to lull the children to sleep. The man was tending a fire in front of the stove.

Judging from their ages, they must be Siqing's older brother and sister-in-law.

The two were very enthusiastic, each busy with their own tasks, but they didn't forget to greet Fan Liuer warmly.

Fan Liuer's anxiety along the way finally subsided.

From a young age, she was considered a burden at home; apart from her parents, no one in the family welcomed her. Before coming to stay with Siqing, she had considered whether Siqing's family would dislike her.

Only now, feeling the warmth of this large family, did she finally breathe a sigh of relief.

Feng Xu quickly brought his parents over, and the two families, along with Fan Liuer, sat around in the main room, drinking hot soup and chatting about the current war, interesting things in the village, and embarrassing things that Siqing and Feng Xu did when they were young. The scene was very harmonious.

No one asked about Fan Liuer's background, nor did anyone inquire about her future, which made Fan Liuer feel much more at ease.

After finishing their meal, it was already daylight outside. Feng Xu's family still had to tidy up, so they went home first. Si Qing's parents had to go to work in the fields, so they also went out, leaving Si Qing to keep Fan Liu'er company.

Siqing led Fan Liuer into her boudoir. "You must be exhausted after traveling all night. You should get some sleep."

Siqing's room wasn't big; it was more like a partitioned-off room than a proper room. Besides a bed and a wardrobe, there wasn't enough room for anything else, and it was difficult for two people to stand together.

Siqing didn't go in, but stood at the door gesturing for Fan Liuer to come in. "This room was actually partitioned off from my brother's room. When we were little, we slept in the same room, but when I grew up, my parents partitioned off this room for me."

Fan Liuer went into the room, sat down in front of the bed, and then looked at Siqing.

Aren't you going to sleep?

"I'm not going to sleep. I have to help my sister-in-law take care of the baby later."

Fan Liuer was indeed tired. After a night of intense stress and running around, she was immediately overcome with sleepiness as she relaxed.

Without further ado, she said to Siqing, "Okay, then I'll take a nap." After saying that, she took off her outer garment and crawled into bed.

She fell asleep quickly.

Meanwhile, in Xingzhou City.

Li Chenbi walked on a deserted street. It was just dawn, and thick fog still surrounded him.

This was a street he was unfamiliar with, surrounded by crowded and dilapidated buildings.

He walked down the street with a furrowed brow.

Where is this?

Just as he was wondering, the sound of gongs and drums came from afar, followed by a wave of laughter and cheers that flooded his ears.

He turned around abruptly, and just then the thick fog parted, revealing a wedding procession dressed in red in the distance.

Leading the procession was a man on a tall horse, dressed in a brightly colored wedding robe, with a joyful expression, leading the group behind him.

The man's face looked somewhat familiar, but he couldn't quite place where he had seen him before.

At this moment, the man was like a victorious general, and when his gaze swept over Li Chenbi, his eyes revealed a mocking look.

Li Chenbi felt a surge of anger; the way this person was looking at him made him very uncomfortable.

He's always been the one looking at others like that; when has anyone ever looked at him like that?

The man led his group quickly to him, without stopping because he was standing in the middle of the street, as if he intended to trample over him if he didn't move aside.

Li Chenbi hadn't figured out where he was. He was all alone, and now was not the time for revenge. He stepped aside to make way for him.

A man rode past him on horseback, followed by a procession of gongs, drums, and suonas; the shrill music made him squint.

His anger intensified at this moment, giving him an impulse to kill everyone in front of him.

He felt he should leave this place; he should first figure out why he was here and what this place was.

But his heels seemed rooted to the spot, unable to lift, pinning him to the ground and forcing him to watch the wedding procession pass by.

The band passed by, followed by the sedan chair bearers, and then the sedan chair itself.

It was a very ordinary bridal sedan chair, barely big enough for one person to sit in. Apart from its bright red color, it had no other luxurious decorations.

The bridal sedan chair passed by him when a gust of wind suddenly blew, blowing open the curtain in front of the sedan chair window and lifting the bride's veil, revealing the familiar face beneath it.
