Chapter 204 Playing the Peacemaker

Qi Weiming looked at the large bowl of rice, his lips twitched, and he forced a smile. "Heh, you can eat now? If you can't even finish this little bit of rice, what kind of man are you?"

As he spoke, he glanced at Li Chenbi's bowl, "Of course, someone like Lord Li, who uses a cane and sits in a wheelchair every day, can't exert much strength, so naturally he eats less."

He then feigned concern and asked, "Lord Li, will your leg ever heal? If it leaves you with any disability, you'll have a hard time in the future."

Li Chenbi replied with a forced smile, "No need for Lord Qi to worry. My family is large and prosperous, so even if it becomes inoperable, it won't be a hardship for us."

"That's true, but a man can't just have a pretty face, right? He's not a vase to be displayed at home. He needs to be strong and healthy to be useful."

"It's not about physical strength that's important, it's about having a sharp mind. Besides, having someone good-looking at home makes you feel good too." Li Chenbi turned to Fan Liuer, put a piece of sweet and sour pork rib into her bowl, and asked her with a smile, "Liuer, don't you think so?"

Fan Liuer didn't dare to say a word, keeping her head down and eating, for fear of being dragged into the battle between the two.

In the end, he still couldn't escape it.

She really wanted to tell them, "If you're not going to eat, just go out. Why all the fuss about eating?"

But it's not easy to say that.

As for Qi Weiming, although she didn't feel that she had done anything wrong to him, from his perspective, he was indeed unlucky.

Besides, he had been looking for her for so long and had been so nice, so she felt bad about being rude to him.

Needless to say, Li Chenbi wouldn't go out even if she asked him to, and he would even make a scene.

Neither of them could be criticized, so she could only try to smooth things over.

She glanced up at each of them, then chuckled, "What you both say makes sense."

After saying that, she immediately stuffed the ribs that Li Chenbi had put on her plate into her mouth, "Eat, eat."

Seeing this, Qi Weiming picked up a piece of braised beef with scallions for her.

Before Fan Liuer could thank him, a pair of chopsticks reached over and took the piece of beef away. "She doesn't eat beef."

Fan Liuer: "..."

Who said that!

There was an extra piece of the tenderest fish belly in the bowl. "Eat fish. This fish has no bones. I know you like to eat fish but don't like picking out bones, so I specially had someone go to Xingzhou overnight to buy it."

"Extravagant!" Qi Weiming scoffed.

Li Chenbi smiled faintly, "How else would I spend all my money?"

Fan Liuer: "..."

"This is no place to linger," Fan Liuer said, quickly finishing her rice in a few bites before standing up. "I suddenly remembered I have something to discuss with Siqing. You guys enjoy your meal, I'll be going now."

He ran away as soon as he finished speaking, and disappeared in the blink of an eye.

The two were left staring at each other in bewilderment.

Without Fan Liuer, the two became completely unceremonious. Li Chenbi slammed his chopsticks down and shouted, "Someone, show them out!"

Qi Weiming picked up a piece of beef with his chopsticks, put it in his mouth, and said while chewing, "I'm not leaving. Go ahead and carry me out if you dare."

At Li Chenbi's signal, the two servants actually lifted the stool that Qi Weiming was sitting on and lifted him up.

Qi Weiming was furious. He got off the stool, picked up the bowl, and prepared to scold Li Chenbi.

Just as he was about to speak, he remembered something, put down the bowl, and said, "Fine, let's go."

He left the kitchen immediately after saying that.

The moment he stepped out, Li Chenbi guessed his intention and said to his servants, "Stop him!"

Qi Weiming ran incredibly fast, leaping over the wall in one bound, and Li Qiuping couldn't stop him even when he tried to pull him back.

"Master..." Li Qiuping turned to look at Li Chenbi.

Li Chenbi said with a stern face, "Bring me your cane."

Just as Fan Liuer reached the entrance of Si Qing's shop, she heard a noise behind her.

Turning her head, she saw Qi Weiming fall from the wall, and she couldn't help but open her mouth wide.

After Qi Weiming steadied himself, he saw her looking at him and immediately ran over, "Liu'er."

"What's this?" Fan Liuer glanced at the person who ran up to her, then looked behind him at the wall of her house.

Qi Weiming was a little embarrassed and scratched his head. "Let me test how sturdy your wall is."

As he spoke, he straightened his expression and said, "It is a bit loose. I guess it wasn't built sturdily enough when it was first constructed. I reckon it won't last more than a few years before it collapses from the rain."

Fan Liuer hadn't expected that the wall actually had a problem. "Really? Then I'll have someone come and fix it tomorrow."

Qi Weiming chuckled, "What kind of people are you looking for? I'll bring some people over tomorrow to fix it for you. It can be done in an afternoon. Don't let our appearance fool you; we used to do all sorts of things before the war, from butchers and hunters to carpenters and bricklayers. We've worked in all walks of life."

Qi Weiming was good at finding topics to chat about, and when he talked about those interesting things, he was very expressive and engaging. Fan Liuer was quickly drawn in by him and listened to him talk about the interesting things that happened during the war with great interest.

Even Qi Weiming didn't notice that there was someone standing behind him.

It wasn't until Siqing called out "Second Master" that Fan Liuer snapped out of her daze.

Qi Weiming turned to look behind him, revealing Li Chenbi leaning on a cane. Li Chenbi's gaze passed over Qi Weiming and stared straight at Fan Liuer.

Fan Liuer suddenly felt like she had been caught doing something wrong.

That's strange, she clearly didn't do anything.

"Why are you always hanging around like a ghost?!" Qi Weiming's face darkened as soon as he saw Li Chenbi. "With your leg like this, you should just stay home. Why are you running around causing trouble for others?"

Li Chenbi shifted his gaze from Fan Liuer to Qi Weiming. "Lord Qi, it's late, aren't you leaving?"

"If we don't get back by now, we won't be able to come back to repair the courtyard wall tomorrow."

Qi Weiming looked up at the sky and realized it was indeed getting late. It would take two hours to ride back to Xingzhou from here.

He was a little reluctant to part ways, as he had finally managed to spend some time alone with Fan Liuer and had such a pleasant chat with her.

But he couldn't stay any longer; he had promised to come and repair the wall for Fan Liuer the next day, and he couldn't break his promise.

He glared at Li Chenbi, then turned to Fan Liuer and smiled, "It is indeed getting late, so I'll head back now and come again tomorrow."

Fan Liuer immediately said, "It's quite troublesome for you to come all this way. I'll find someone to repair the wall, so don't bother."

"This is no trouble at all. No outsider is as reliable as me. It's settled then. I'll come over at noon tomorrow."

Fearing that Fan Liuer would refuse again, he turned and walked away after speaking. He jogged to the horse he had tied by the door, untied the reins, jumped onto the horse, and then waved to Fan Liuer.

"I'm leaving."

Fan Liuer could only raise her hand and wave to Li Chenbi, who was staring at her.

After he rode away, Fan Liuer looked at Li Chenbi.

She decided to strike first, "It's all your fault! You're so noisy even during dinner, I didn't get to eat my fill!"

As she spoke, she turned and walked into the shop. "Siqing, have you finished eating?"

Siqing: "Uh... I just finished eating."

Fan Liuer winked at her.

Siqing whispered, "We really finished eating."
