Beachcombing: The beach is full of amazing seafood, but my wife won't let me get out of bed!
Chapter 250 Can't even eat a big one?
The fishing nets are spread out in the depths and slowly move forward in the upper layer of the trench as the fishing boats are towed.
The engine's roar became unusually muffled, and the ship's hull trembled slightly.
Such deep towing puts a tremendous strain on both the hull and the engine.
Wu Sui stood on the ship's side, feeling the vibrations beneath his feet, and activated the system radar once more.
The fishing net is located at a depth of nearly 300 meters in the trench.
There was still some distance between us and those few pale blue dots of light.
"Brother Lei, move slightly to the right!"
Wu Lei didn't hesitate and immediately turned the steering wheel.
The underwater fishing nets also changed course, moving closer to the steep slope on the right side of the trench.
Fortunately, the boat continued to move steadily without any problems.
Wu Sui glanced at it and then looked away.
"Dazhu, go cook. The rest of you continue sorting. After we eat, we'll haul in the nets."
On the deck, the sorting of silver pomfret was in full swing.
These silver pomfret are all uniform in size, and the vast majority weigh more than half a pound.
Only a few smaller silver pomfret were picked out and thrown into a basket next to them.
Wu Sui strolled over, glanced down at the basket of small silver pomfret, and looked at it with disgust.
"What flavor can you possibly taste in this little catfish?" he muttered.
I bypassed the small basket and went straight to the pile of large fish, reaching out to pick out a few of the fattest ones.
"These look good, thick backs and lots of meat." Wu Sui was about to reach out and grab them.
Before I even touched the fish, a rough, large hand slapped me across the face.
"What are you doing?" Wu Gang glared and grabbed Wu Sui's hand.
"Take a few of the fattest ones and let Dazhu steam them for lunch as a snack," Wu Sui said confidently, reaching further inside.
"Eat, eat, all you ever think about is eating!" Wu Gang pointed to the tattered basket next to him that held small fish.
"Aren't all those small ones enough for you to eat? Keep the big ones to sell!"
Chen Yang was dragging baskets at the entrance of the cold storage when he heard the noise, so he immediately dropped what he was doing and rushed over.
He spread his arms wide, blocking the pile of fish and pushing Wu Sui outwards.
"Brother-in-law, this time I'm on Gang's side." Chen Yang shook his head repeatedly.
"You used to eat those rare treats, we had no choice but to eat the big ones."
"They're all the same silver pomfret now, and they taste almost the same, so why do you insist on ruining these big ones?"
"Yeah, Brother Sui, the big ones can fetch a good price; you can easily lose tens of dollars in one bite," Chen Yongqiang chimed in.
Wu Sui laughed in anger as he watched these guys collectively turn against him.
"Well, you guys are all becoming misers now, aren't you?"
"I found these fish, and I can't even pick a few of the bigger ones to eat?"
"No way!" the group exclaimed in unison, their voices surprisingly synchronized.
Wu Gang pushed Wu Sui away.
"Second brother, stop causing trouble here and go help Lei keep an eye on the boat."
"Dazhu, go and clean up that small basket. We'll eat those for lunch."
Wu Sui couldn't resist these money-grubbing guys and tried to struggle a bit, but he was dragged back to the driver's seat.
"Alright, alright, small is fine. Big sticks, we'll calculate based on the number of people. Steam three for each person first, and we'll make up the rest if needed."
Wang Dazhu chuckled and responded, then picked up the basket of small silver pomfret and headed towards the kitchen.
Gut the fish, remove the internal organs and gills, and rinse it clean.
Make two cuts on each side of the fish, place a layer of scallion segments and ginger slices on the bottom, arrange the silver pomfret neatly on top, sprinkle some shredded ginger on the fish, and steam it directly in a pot over high heat.
Silver pomfret has a high fat content and tender flesh, so it doesn't need complicated cooking methods. You can enjoy its original, fresh flavor.
In less than ten minutes, a rich aroma of fish filled the kitchen.
Wang Dazhu carried two large plates onto the deck and called out loudly.
"Dinner's ready!"
Several people quickly put down what they were doing, washed their hands, and gathered around.
The steamed silver pomfret is piping hot, just out of the pot.
After steaming, the fish skin appears exceptionally oily and juicy, curling slightly outwards along the cuts to reveal the snow-white fish flesh.
Wu Sui picked up a piece of fish with his chopsticks, dipped it in some soy sauce from the bottom of the plate, and put it in his mouth.
The meat is tender and has a smooth texture; it melts in your mouth with just a gentle touch.
While chewing, it has a natural sweetness unique to sea fish, and is not fishy at all.
"Mmm, this tastes amazing!" Chen Yang shoveled down two mouthfuls of rice and mumbled, "Brother Dazhu, your cooking skills have improved!"
"It's because this fish is good and fresh," Wang Dazhu said with a simple smile.
Wu Gang nodded repeatedly as he ate.
"This fish is delicious, with few bones, making it a pleasure to eat."
"If this were taken to a restaurant, this plate alone would sell for at least several tens of yuan."
"Brother Gang, why are you still calculating the bill even when you're eating out? You can't stop talking about money." Chen Yongqiang joked with a smile.
"Nonsense, what else would you go to sea for if not money, just to feel the sea breeze?" Wu Gang glared at him.
Chen Yang shoveled the last mouthful of rice into his mouth and let out a satisfied burp.
"Gang is right, we need to catch more big catches, otherwise we'll be letting down the food on board."
"Look at your pathetic self," Wu Sui said with a laugh.
Amidst laughter and conversation, the group finished off the fish on their plate.
After eating and drinking their fill, they quickly sorted the fish and carried them into the cold storage.
Wu Gang used a water hose to rinse the fish scales and blood off the deck.
Wu Sui walked to the stern of the ship, leaned against the railing, and with a thought, activated the system radar again.
On the screen, the number of blue dots increased, forming a dense band of light.
The net bag was slowly approaching. Wu Sui withdrew the radar and shouted into the driver's cab.
"Brother Lei, maintain the current course and speed, and don't veer off course."
"Don't worry, Sui, it's very stable!" Wu Lei responded loudly, gripping the helm with both hands.
Time passed slowly, and the people on the deck chatted about how much the silver pomfret they had just caught could be sold for.
Just when everyone thought the situation would drag on for a while longer.
The ship suddenly sank sharply.
This happened without any warning.
Chen Yang lost his balance and fell onto the deck, the cigarette butt in his hand flying far away.
Wang Dazhu also staggered a few steps, barely managing to steady himself by grabbing the gunwale.
The engine, which had been running smoothly, suddenly became muffled.
As Wu Lei steered the boat, his heart skipped a beat, and he hurriedly shouted outside.
"Gang-ge, A-Sui, check the winch to see if anything is stuck."
The expressions on the faces of the people on deck changed instantly.
Wu Gang dropped the water pipe and rushed to the stern of the boat, staring at the taut steel cable.
The steel cable had gotten stuck in the pulley at the stern, making a creaking sound.
"Oh no, it's definitely snagged on the bottom!" Wu Gang exclaimed anxiously, slapping his thigh. "I told you not to cast nets in the trench! Now we're all doomed."
Chen Yang got up and ran to Wu Gang's side.
"Brother Gang, what should we do? If this net breaks, all our efforts will be for nothing."
Chen Yongqiang and Wang Dazhu were also flustered and stood there helplessly.
Wu Sui stood still and turned on the system radar again.
On the radar screen, the original blue band of light had condensed into a cluster.
Looking at the image on the radar, he couldn't help but laugh out loud with excitement.
"Don't panic, it's not stuck on the bottom."
"Prepare to haul in the net..."
