Pei Ming was led away by Xu Ran. The outline of the villa was faintly visible in the rain. It stood quietly amidst the wind and rain.

He was in a daze when he came in last night, and left in a hurry this morning. This was the first time Pei Ming had seen him so clearly.

Xu Ran entered the house and turned on the light. The soft light fell on his face. He took out slippers for Pei Ming and wrapped a blanket from the sofa around him.

The blanket carried Xu Ran's scent.

Everything happened so naturally that, in a daze, Pei Ming even felt that he had lived here for a long time.

It seemed as if it were meant to be this way.

Xu Ran smiled and ruffled Pei Mingye's wet black hair, waking him from his daze: "Go take a shower. Your pajamas are on the balcony. Close the window for me."

Pei Ming bit his lip, breaking free from his unrealistic fantasies, and whispered, "Thank you."

There was a cactus on the balcony, and Pei Ming guessed that Xu Ran probably wanted it to sunbathe there. He closed the window, and thankfully, the rain didn't get into the house.

At home... He rubbed his fingertips, feeling that he was probably not quite sober.

Xu Ran's home is so warm and clean that it's easy to dream about it.

The waiter, now clean and warm after his shower, stood awkwardly at the bathroom door. Xu Ran, on the sofa, turned and waved to him.

Pei Ming also dawdled over and saw the screen in front of Xu Ran.

Xu Ran asked him gently, "Are you sleepy?"

Pei Ming also shook his head slightly, hesitated for a moment, and sat down next to him. He seemed less talkative when he wasn't selling alcohol. He spoke softly, as if afraid of disturbing something: "Is there anything you need me to do?"

Xu Ran smiled and nodded, patting the spot next to her: "Stay with me for a while?"

Pei Ming also sank into the soft sofa, and then a fluffy cushion and blanket were stuffed into his arms.

Pei Ming couldn't understand what was on the screen, nor did he intend to look at it. Some people were very wary of this, thinking that such people might be sent by the enemy to spy on business secrets. His gaze drifted to a corner of the coffee table.

Xu Ran noticed that he was lost in thought.

Then Pei Ming realized that something was wrong. Xu Ran analyzed the situation with him while handling her work, explaining the pros and cons one by one.

Pei Ming also went from knowing nothing to being able to roughly understand a few sentences.

Pei Ming froze on the sofa, and said in a hoarse voice, "You don't need to tell me this."

He doesn't need to know these things.

He sold alcohol to earn money to buy medicine for the old woman, and stopped selling alcohol when she no longer needed the medicine.

He hadn't thought about what would happen in the future.

Anyway, he doesn't need Xu Ran to teach him these things, and it wouldn't be of any use anyway, since he's a "lower class" who climbed out of the West District.

Xu Ran stopped upon hearing this and asked him, "Don't you like listening to this?"

Pei Ming also lowered his eyes and remained silent; this wasn't a matter of liking or disliking.

Xu Ran didn't need to bother with this at all; there was no need for her to waste her time on him.

Xu Ran tried to reason with him, "What do you like? Do you like planting flowers?"

Pei Ming also felt a lump in his throat, and his mouth tasted of blood.

"I know how to grow flowers, shall I teach you?" Xu Ran had just seen Pei Ming staring blankly at the cactus.

Delicate flowers have a hard time surviving in this world and require careful nurturing. Some romantic upper-class people appreciate these flowers, and growing flowers is a very good way to make a living.

Pei Ming also wanted to shake his head. He didn't know if he liked flowers or not, and there weren't any in the West District.

Then Xu Ran led him to see the cactus that Xu Ran was raising. The lamplight shone down, giving it a faint green glow, making it look exceptionally vibrant and full of life.

Xu Ran smiled and said, "Cacti like to bask in the sun, so I put them on the balcony."

Pei Ming had guessed it too.

Xu Ran squeezed the soil in the pot; it was a bit dry. He handed the small spray bottle to Pei Mingye and coaxed, "Give it some water, not too much."

Pei Ming was also holding the small spray bottle in a daze. He was coaxed by the villa owner and, as if possessed, watered the cactus.

Then, as if he'd been burned, he hurriedly put the spray bottle down on the ground: "I don't know how to do this, I..."

His hand was covered by a warm palm, and his voice caught in his throat. He looked up helplessly and met a pair of gentle, admiring dark eyes.

"Well done, you watered it, it will thank you."

grateful?

Pei Ming also felt as if he was hallucinating.

Xu Ran's robot prepared a late-night snack. Xu Ran ladled out a bowl of chicken soup and handed it to Pei Mingye, saying with a smile, "Thank you on behalf of my cactus."

The fragrant chicken soup was steaming hot, with a few tender red goji berries floating on the golden broth. The steam made Pei Mingye's eyes water.

Pei Ming also sipped his soup slowly. He had eaten his fill today and wasn't hungry, so there was no reason for him to have a late-night snack.

This is such a waste. People like them shouldn't be like this. It's hard to go from extravagance to frugality. Once they're blinded by their desires, they can't live a normal life.

He finished his soup, his arm trembling slightly. He looked up at Xu Ran and smiled, "Mr. Xu Ran, what kind of reward do you want this time?"

Xu Ran patted his head: "This is a reward."

That's such a lame excuse. No one gets rewarded for spraying water on a cactus.

Pei Ming was also led into the room he had stayed in the night before. He curled up at the foot of the bed, staring at Xu Ran who had said goodnight to him at the door and was about to leave.

He was used to reading people's expressions; this room was full of traces of another person, this was not a guest room.

He asked, "Is this your room?"

Xu Ran turned around, showing no sign of doubt, and smiled, "Yes."

Pei Ming also asked, "Can I stay in a guest room?"

Xu Ran shook his head, without explaining why.

Pei Ming had no objection and said softly, "The sofa, the floor, anywhere is fine."

Xu Ran walked back, squatted down, and looked at him at eye level: "Why can't I sleep here?"

Pei Ming also lowered his head, as if he wanted to stare a hole through the bed sheet. The reason was obvious: this was Xu Ran's room.

How could he usurp the throne?

"Then we'll all sleep here, okay?"

Pei Ming's eyelashes trembled slightly, and he silently scooted to the side, leaving most of the bed clear.

Xu Ran raised her hand and turned off the light. Darkness engulfed them, and a corner of the blanket covering them was lifted. Pei Ming also closed his eyes tightly, his breath catching in his throat.

He knew that his appearance was quite attractive to many customers.

If Xu Ran was being kind to him for any reason, it could only be this; he had nothing else to offer.

He bit his lip as the person beside him lay down, the scent of grass and trees even stronger than the night before.

Xu Ran didn't make any other moves. The kitten had finally managed to stick out one paw, and he didn't want to scare it into pulling it back in.

Pei Ming held his breath and waited for a while until the breathing beside him became softer.

He opened his eyes in the darkness and then slowly and gently moved closer to the heat source beside him.

His eyes stung a little, and he curled up next to Xu Ran and fell asleep.

It was a very peaceful sleep.
