The sect leader felt a surge of turbid air rush to his head, but when he looked up, he saw that the disciple's mangled corpse was radiating a bright spiritual light.

"A soul-capturing technique?!"

A dim phantom gradually floated up from the dismembered corpse. Who else could it be but the dead disciple?

The sect leader rebuked, "Are you insane? This is a forbidden technique!"

"It's alright."

When Pei Chenxi saw the phantom, he couldn't help but feel resentment, but when he heard the sect leader's words, all of that turned into worry. He didn't know about this soul-capturing technique.

He looked at Xu Ran, who had a calm expression and asked the phantom, "What did you do to Pei Chenxi?"

The voice was still that of the disciple, but it was devoid of emotion, as if he were talking in a dream: "I pushed him into Ghost Tomb Mountain."

One person and one soul, one question and one answer, both in slow, cold tones, extremely eerie.

"How did you push him?"

"I was injured, and he took a blow for me. I took advantage of his momentary lapse in attention and pushed him inside."

"Why did you harm him?"

"I resent him; he's mediocre, yet he's gained the favor of the Celestial Venerable."

Do you know where Ghost Tomb Mountain is?

"I know that vengeful ghosts roam the land, resentment runs rampant, and no one has survived."

With each answer, Xuanqing Palace grew quieter, until Xu Ran withdrew his spell, leaving it deathly silent.

Pei Chenxi's lips moved slightly. Master... No one witnessed this, so he could only bear the bitter fruit himself. But the seemingly unsolvable predicament that had trapped him was easily broken by his master.

He felt as if he had become that disheveled servant disciple at the foot of Qing Shuang Peak again, staring blankly as his master protected him behind him.

Xu Ran looked at the dazed sect leader: "Shouldn't someone who harms their fellow disciples be killed?"

The sect leader nodded subconsciously.

Xu Ran curled his lips slightly: "My disciple only killed those who deserved to die. If that counts as evil, then the number of souls I've lost is hundreds of times greater. Wouldn't that make me utterly wicked?"

"How can that be the same?" the sect leader retorted. "He has fallen into demonic possession."

Xu Ran nodded. He knew that the man had not only fallen into demonic possession but had also become a demon lord. He replied gently, "I will take him back and discipline him properly."

The sect leader felt there was something wrong with his eyes. He could see pride on Qing Shuang's face. He had taught a Demon Lord, and he was still proud of it?

The word "discipline" swirled in Pei Chenxi's mind. Could he still be his master's disciple?

Xu Ran wrapped his thinly dressed apprentice in his arms, glanced at the butcher's knife lying on the ground—it wasn't a good thing—and ignored it, rising into the air.

The two figures had already disappeared from sight in the air when the sect leader finally came to his senses: "Where did you go? Aren't you going back to Azure Frost Peak?"

There's a litter of rabbits on Qing Shuang Peak! He's been feeding and watering them these past few days.

Pei Chenxi leaned against Xu Ran's chest in a daze and left.

Was he taken away by his master?

Xu Ran's chest heaved, and he chuckled softly, "You were so arrogant just now, but you've gone mute now?"

"They even changed the dough. How did you even think of that?"

That familiar, relaxed, and smiling tone brought tears to Pei Chenxi's eyes.

"Master, how can you be sure it's me?"

Xu Ran smiled as she looked into those misty eyes: "How could Master not even recognize you?"

Pei Chenxi had just used his magic, and now his meridians were in excruciating pain. His face darkened; even if his master still wanted him, he didn't have much time left.

Xu Ran patted his head: "Sleep for a while, I'll grill you some fish when you wake up."

Pei Chenxi didn't want to go to sleep. He wanted to keep an eye on his master at all times, because every moment was precious to him now.

But he was exhausted. In his master's arms, he subconsciously relaxed and stopped being so tense. Soon his vision went black and he fell into a deep sleep.

Half-asleep, Pei Chenxi feared it was a dream, feared she was still in the empty Demon Palace. She rolled off the bed, but was restrained by a pull on her wrist.

His heart tightened, and he suddenly became clear-headed, seeing that his wrists were locked with a gold chain, firmly trapping him in this room.

He subconsciously gathered his strength, but the thin gold chain was exceptionally hard; it was so tough that even cutting water wouldn't be able to break it.

He looked stunned. He had been captured? But wasn't he taken away by his master?

If you were captured, what kind of dungeon would look like this?

A sliver of light shone through the window, reflecting off the chains and making them gleam with gold.

Pei Chenxi was startled by the familiar footsteps behind him, and then heard a laughing voice.

"You're awake! Want some grilled fish?"

The system is simply unbearable to watch. The host inexplicably locked someone up, and the first thing it did when the host woke up was to ask if the host wanted to eat grilled fish.

Pei Chenxi watched helplessly as his master walked up to him, helped him sit up on the bed, and the question he wanted to ask got stuck in his throat.

Xu Ran gently tugged at the gold chain on Pei Chenxi's wrist. It wouldn't hurt her hand and was very sturdy; it was indeed worth over a hundred points.

He nodded in satisfaction, then met Pei Chenxi's unspeakable gaze and explained, "This is punishment."

Pei Chenxi admitted that he had indeed done many wrong things and had even implicated his master.

But then the master slowly added, "You don't acknowledge your master, which makes your master sad. You deserve to be punished."

Pei Chenxi's heart skipped a beat.

"To admit it or not?"

He was afraid that his nodding wouldn't keep up with the speed of his tears falling: "I accept it, Master, whatever punishment you give me."

Xu Ran touched his little apprentice's eyes: "Good boy, here's a grilled fish for you."

Pei Chenxi blushed slightly at his master's words; he wasn't some young man who needed to be coaxed.

Pei Chenxi had been longing for his master's grilled fish for a long time, and now that he was finally eating it, he felt as if he had been in another world. He thought he would never be able to eat it again.

The young apprentice had become quite thin, so Xu Ran handed him another grilled fish, saying he needed to be fed.

Pei Chenxi ate earnestly, swallowing the last bite of grilled fish. He slowly raised his eyes and asked, "Master, how long will you punish me?"

He's locked up here and can't make soup for his master. If he's punished for too long, he might never have the chance again.

Xu Ran pondered, "It will take about three months. I'll find a way to repair your demonic arts; that will take some time."

Pei Chenxi stood frozen in place, suddenly feeling the faint pain in his meridians intensify.

"Master, you know?"

Xu Ran lowered her eyes, chuckled softly, and seized upon another piece of evidence against her young apprentice: "You actually tried to hide it from me, making me, an old man, bury my young one."

Pei Chenxi couldn't stand these words: "What white-haired person? You're talking nonsense..."

Xu Ran laughed and said, "Alright, alright, I won't say. I didn't originally intend for you to take care of me in my old age and see me off in my final days; I planned for you to accompany me for the rest of my life."

Pei Chenxi felt a sudden pang of sorrow and pain in his heart at the thought of spending his life with his master. How could he not want to... how could he not want to spend his life with his master?

"That demonic art," Pei Chenxi closed his eyes, his brow furrowed. The excruciating pain had eroded the youthful spirit his master had painstakingly cultivated in him over the past few days, "is no good. You allow me to practice it?"

"I've become a demon, Master..."

The once majestic Demon Lord now spoke with a panicked tone, like a misguided youth.

"He's not a demon, he's my apprentice." Xu Ran pulled his little apprentice into his arms.

"Don't be afraid."

In the original storyline, Pei Chenxi bound himself with black iron, but this time Xu Ran used a golden chain to lock him up.

They are different paths, not the same destination.

Pei Chenxi is heading not towards the abyss, but towards Xu Ran.
