Skyscrapers stand tall, neon lights shimmer under the night sky, and bars, casinos, and nightclubs exude an atmosphere of extravagance.

The streets were thick with smoke and the stench of decay. Stray dogs foraged among the ruins, their eyes fierce and fangs bared. Abandoned vehicles were haphazardly parked along the roadside, ignored by all. Occasionally, a gust of wind would blow, stirring up a cloud of dust.

In this rebuilt city, people seem to have become accustomed to this distorted coexistence of prosperity and desolation.

How long has it been since the apocalypse? No one remembers. All that is known is that law and order are like a shattered mirror, never to be pieced back together to their former wholeness.

The little system is playing a movie, a zombie movie, it's super exciting.

Xu Ran glanced at it a few times, then tripped over the gravel under his feet, splashing mud and dust onto his light-colored suit pants.

"I told you to bring your hovercar out," the system paused the movie, which happened to be showing a graphic, bloody scene. "No one's cleaning up the mess on the street..."

Xu Ran turned off the movie halfway through the little system's sentence.

"No, I just want to take a walk today." Xu Ran withdrew her hand, glanced at the dim moon, and kicked at the pebbles at her feet.

The little dumpling sighed somewhat helplessly, floated out to illuminate the path beneath Xu Ran's feet, and then continued speaking.

"Rich people drive hovercars and don't care about the streets, while poor people don't have the energy to care, so this is the mess they've made."

Xu Ran nodded, glancing down at her well-tailored suit: "I'm quite wealthy."

"It's called money, but it's really just numbers in an account."

"We've arrived! The brightest clubhouse!" the system exclaimed excitedly, already ready to rewatch the movie.

The protagonist this time is named Pei Mingye. He is short of money and sells alcohol in this club.

Quite coincidentally, Xu Ran has money this time and can also drink.

The club's doors were open, and the lights were blinding. Xu Ran stopped in her tracks.

"Aren't you going in?" the system asked, puzzled.

Xu Ran didn't speak, but turned to look to the side, where there was a person in the shadows of the corner.

He was wearing the club's uniform, an extremely fitted white shirt that revealed a smooth and beautiful waistline. He stood leaning against a tree, his slender figure almost blending into the tree's shadow, his silhouette suffocating.

He didn't even have time to catch his breath after vomiting. He heard footsteps behind him, took out a pink pill from his shirt pocket, and tilted his head back to swallow it.

The footsteps stopped, and a warm hand covered the cold, stiff hand, along with the pill.

The pale, thin young man turned around, caught sight of Xu Ran's expensive attire, and quietly took a half-step to cover his vomit, forcing a flawless smile onto his face: "Excuse me, sir, may I ask if you...?"

The system had already detected this and reported to Xu Ran: "It's a drug that can keep you sober after drinking alcohol, but it's very harmful to your body and will make you feel even worse."

Pei Ming smiled, trying to subtly break free from Xu Ran's grasp... He did, but the pill rolled away and disappeared. This was the last one he'd brought out today, and his gaze darkened for a moment.

Xu Ran lightly tapped the name tag on his chest and read his name: "Pei Mingye".

His voice was deep and gentle, which made Pei Ming shudder.

Xu Ran smiled gently: "There's no one at the door. Could you please show me in?"

If there's no one at the door, just go in by yourself. What a strange guest.

Pei Ming was stunned for a moment, then smiled again, his misty gray eyes looking at him earnestly: "It is an honor to serve you, sir."

Xu Ran was led by Pei Ming into a VIP room. The warm lighting was dim and ambiguous, the air was filled with a light fragrance, and the music was faint.

Pei Ming lowered his eyes, concealing the anxiety in them: "Sir, you can simply press the bell if you need someone to accompany you. I'm sorry, I have something to attend to right now..."

He made an excuse to go to the restroom and left the private room, thinking he would take some medicine and go back. However, he hadn't eaten that day, and his stomach was rebelling too violently. He couldn't help but go outside and vomit for a while, but it was already too late... Plus, he had no medicine left, and he didn't know how to end the situation.

Xu Ran sat on the sofa, tilting her head slightly: "When are you coming?"

Pei Mingye's words caught in his throat, and the usual smile on his face froze.

Xu Ran's tone was gentle, as if she were negotiating: "When will it end? Can you come over?"

Pei Ming clenched his fingers. It was almost over, but he couldn't get through it. He would get drunk without his medicine.

Xu Ran sighed softly, "Then I'll wait a while, you don't need to rush."

It's truly unbelievable.

Pei Ming was also about to lose his composure.

The guest on the sofa was well-dressed, but his trousers were stained with mud and dust, which made him seem less approachable. He had striking features and a very aggressive look, but his dark eyes held a bewitching smile.

It is dangerous to bewitch people.

Pei Ming also felt a sense of unease.

"My name is Xu Ran," the guest said.

Introduce yourself naturally, as if chatting with other distinguished partners.

Pei Ming also forgot what the most appropriate response should be at this moment, and could only give a hasty smile. This smile was not natural at all, and it was different from before.

He bowed, left the room, and the moment the door closed, his straight back slumped.

There was no time to relax. He suppressed his anxiety; he had already taken three pills today, and maybe he could hold on until the end…

Xu Ran sat alone on the sofa, waiting for the system to bring up the entire plot.

"Huh?" The system was taken aback. "This time, Xiao Pei will lie."

Using his handsome appearance and flattering words, he lured these wealthy people to buy his wine at high prices. The money from selling wine normally wasn't enough for him, so he supported a sick old woman.

Pei Mingye, who had never been to school and had just come of age, had nothing except the old woman who raised him.

Xu Ran remembered that smiling face and the effortless way she spoke, and he added, "She was a beautiful con artist."

Pei Ming was also clever and ruthless to himself. He would even eat medicine that was bad for his health in order to sell more wine. But the old woman still passed away. There was nothing he could do; her life had come to an end.

Pei Ming knew perfectly well that everything he did couldn't prolong the old woman's life; it was only to spare her from the torment before she died.

The system looked at the ending: "Many people coveted him, but he was cunning and didn't let anyone succeed. Later, when the old lady died, he stopped selling alcohol and went to repair the streets for free."

He only worked that job for six months. He treated his body like a disposable item, and his health was already ruined.

He collapsed on the street, and no one came to collect his body. Later, a little girl passing by covered him with a cloth.

Nobody cared, after all, there were quite a few corpses on the street.

Xu Ran remained silent, the lamplight casting shadows on his face. The system reminded him: "He has no medicine; you need to go pick him up quickly."
