A few days later, Ling Luo's complexion improved considerably.

Gu Yang came in from outside carrying a boxed lunch and saw Ling Luo sitting by the window.

Her hair was shoulder-length and looked very frizzy because she didn't take care of it often. A wisp of hair fell down to her eyes, covering most of her dull eyes.

Gu Yang took a deep breath and smiled lightly:

"Ling Luo, the hospital's nutritional meal for you today finally has meat in it! It's sure to taste better than yesterday, come and try it!"

Ling Luo snapped out of her daze, turned to look at the busy Gu Yang, and chuckled, "Okay."

The lunchbox contained the hospital's nutritional meals, which were generally very bland.

But now, he could still taste some flavor: "Not bad."

Gu Yang, holding his lunchbox, happily took a bite of his food upon hearing this.

"Get well soon, I want to eat your cooking, I haven't had it in four years."

"Okay, eat slowly."

"Mhm." Gu Yang nodded as he ate.

"I haven't asked you yet, why did you end up in the hospital a few days ago?"

"You only just thought of asking now?" Gu Yang said vaguely, "I'm just on summer vacation, so I've been busy running around doing all the gigs I've accumulated. My heart wasn't feeling too well, so I came to get checked out."

"Heart?" Ling Luo stopped eating and frowned. Gu Yang didn't have any heart disease.

"Okay, don't worry, I've had a check-up, and the doctor said there's nothing wrong. It's probably just from not getting enough sleep. The doctor told me to get plenty of rest."

Hearing this, Ling Luo nodded, relieved.

After finishing his meal, Gu Yang put the lunchbox aside and watched Ling Luo slowly and methodically eat what was in her bowl.

Four years later, Ling Luo is still the same, with the same face, the same gentle and refined manner, and the same scholarly air that makes people feel very comfortable.

"What are you looking at?"

"You look good," Gu Yang said with a smile. "Ling Luo, you don't seem to care much about your appearance. Look at your hair... well, I can't really comment."

Ling Luo paused, her chopsticks still in her hand. "Looks good don't put food on the table."

"Why not? She's a feast for the eyes. Never heard of her before, a top student."

Ling Luo: ......

Gu Yang didn't care whether Ling Luo would answer or not; that's how they always were—he would speak, and he would listen.

Seeing this, Gu Yang urged, "Eat quickly."

Ling Luo nodded gently, ate most of the food in her bowl, and only stopped when she had no appetite left.

......

A month later, Ling Luo was finally able to be discharged from the hospital.

In fact, the injury on his wrist had already completely healed, but every time Old Zhou and Old Tang came over, they would always ask him to wait a little longer out of concern.

Ling Luo knew that they were just afraid he might try to commit suicide and no one would notice.

Gu Yang stayed there the whole time, never leaving, like a little puppy afraid of being abandoned again.

His agent calls several times a day, but each time Gu Yang rushes out and then rushes back.

"Is it really okay to be discharged? Or should we stay for a couple more days?"

Before Gu Yang could finish speaking, Ling Luo had already taken the form and headed to the payment window, her movements so swift and efficient that she didn't seem like a patient at all.

By the time Gu Yang caught up with him, the discharge procedures had already been completed.

"Um, where...where are you going? I'll take you."

Ling Luo's face seemed to have turned even paler.

He had already submitted his resignation two weeks ago.

It's not convenient for him to go back. That place holds too many memories for him; he can't get over it himself, and he doesn't want to trouble those who care about him.

In the past few years, he has done nothing but research and never even thought about buying a house in this city.

Now that he has left the research institute, he realizes that he doesn't even have a place to stay.

"Ling Luo? Ling Luo, what's wrong?"

Gu Yang's voice pulled him back from his thoughts.

Ling Luo shook her head: "It's okay. Can you help me find a real estate agency? I'll rent an apartment first, and then see if there are any suitable listings."

Upon hearing this, Gu Yang's eyes lit up.

"Rent a room? What's the point of renting a room! I have a spare room; I live alone, it's a waste to leave it empty!"

Ling Luo paused, turned her head to look at him, her eyes flickering: "...It's inconvenient."

"What's wrong?" Gu Yang asked anxiously, following after him. "I live alone, and you live alone too, so we can share a room! Besides, didn't the doctor tell me to maintain a regular schedule? You're a top student, the most disciplined! You can keep an eye on me, perfect!"

Ling Luo: "...Don't you know it's wrong to bring other people home casually?"

Seeing that Ling Luo remained unmoved, Yang Qian simply resorted to shamelessness.

"What's wrong with you? Besides, you're not just anyone. Anyway, I don't care if you don't come. I'll definitely stay up all night every day. If I really die from overwork one day, you'll be the indirect murderer!"

He looked at Gu Yang's "I'll die if you don't agree" attitude and felt a headache coming on.

"Alright," he interrupted Gu Yang's unreasonable argument. "I'll go."

"Okay!" Gu Yang immediately beamed, as if afraid that he would change his mind, and pulled him away.

......

The car drove smoothly into a villa without any conversation.

"They're rich. This is so much better than the shabby little house I used to rent when I was in school," Ling Luo sighed softly as she looked out the window.

"You know my family's wealth," Gu Yang said smugly, tossing his head. "I may not have much else, but I'm rich. Even if you don't work, I can still support you..."

As soon as the words left his mouth, Gu Yang wished he could slap himself.

What kind of utter nonsense is that!

In the past month or so, even if he was slow on the uptake, he should have realized that Ling Luo had become like this because of work-related issues. Wasn't he just bringing up a sore spot?

He glanced at Ling Luo out of the corner of his eye, his heart pounding in his chest.

Ling Luo didn't react much, just quietly looked ahead. After the car came to a stop, he got out of the car, walked into the living room, and sat down on the sofa.

"So, Young Master Gu," he looked up at the bewildered Gu Yang, "is there anything to eat? I'm hungry."

"Huh? Ah! Yes, yes, yes!"

Yang felt as if he had been granted a pardon, and immediately took out his phone, his fingers tapping the screen so fast they left afterimages.

Half an hour later, the doorbell rang.

When Ling Luo watched Gu Yang take a bunch of colorful boxes from the delivery guy, a rare flicker of emotion appeared in his usually lifeless eyes.

Great! My first meal in my new home is a full-course takeout feast.

"What's wrong with takeout?" Gu Yang asked, trying to save face. "It's convenient. You can order whatever you want. Isn't that great?"

Ling Luo didn't speak, but silently opened a box emitting a spicy smell and shook her head.

"A lot of takeout food is unhealthy." He paused, then added, "I'll cook next time."

"Okay!" Gu Yang's eyes lit up instantly: "No, your hand is injured."

"It's okay, it's been fine for a while now, you saw it yourself."

Gu Yang hesitated and remained silent.

Ling Luo ruffled Gu Yang's hair helplessly: "Don't worry, I know what I'm doing."

Seeing this, Gu Yang reluctantly nodded.

Ling Luo's cooking skills are absolutely superb! Back in high school, he was lucky enough to have a meal at the little shabby house that Ling Luo rented. It was so delicious that he almost swallowed his tongue and ended up having to lean against the wall to walk out.

Unfortunately... not long after that, Ling Luo quietly "transferred schools".

After finishing his meal, Gu Yang took the initiative to clean up the mess on the table.

After packing up, she ran upstairs again in no time and quickly came down with a bunch of things.

"Lingluo, wear this set of pajamas for now, it's new. And these toiletries, but they're all disposable. We'll go to the supermarket this afternoon, so please make do with these for now."

Ling Luo nodded. For him, new or old didn't matter, as long as it worked.

"You should rest first. I'll go by myself this afternoon."

As Ling Luo spoke, her voice lowered, as if she were talking to herself: "Perfect timing, I should go back and move my things."
