The Heiress's Game

Chapter 171 I've never been this humiliated in my life

After hanging up the video call, Gu Yunjin lay on the bed for another fifteen minutes before sitting up.

Although Qian Yuewei's words were unrestrained, some of them were indeed to the point—she was not the kind of person who hesitated.

From childhood to adulthood, everything she has done has been proactive.

The marriage was initiated by the organization, and the business was initiated by the organization; there's no reason to back down at this crucial juncture.

After the wedding, her life will most likely revolve around Yunjing.

As Gu Zhenxing's daughter, she has limited access to resources; but as Bai Junze's wife, she has a much wider stage to perform on.

Moreover, the resources that the two can mobilize are not even in the same league.

In the Gu family, she was the unloved second daughter; in the Bai family, she was Bai Junze's legal wife, and some resources were readily available to her if she wanted to use them.

She chose Bai Junze not only because of her feelings for him, but also because this path would allow her to go further.

Yunwhale Capital can continue to be based in Dahai City, but Xingyao Media will probably have to gradually move to Yunjing.

Since we'll be living under the same roof in the future, we'll have to adapt sooner or later, so let's start now.

Once you've figured all that out, another problem becomes simple—since you're getting your marriage certificate tomorrow...

If this marriage is worthwhile for her, why is she suffering from insomnia alone? She has never been one to wait passively.

Gu Yunjin sat up, picked up a pillow, stood at the door of Bai Junze's guest room, and knocked twice. The door opened.

The lights in the guest room were still on.

Bai Junze leaned against the headboard with his laptop on his lap. He was clearly still working, his brows slightly furrowed, his slender fingers tapping slowly on the keyboard.

Hearing the door open, he looked up, his finger hovering in mid-air, his gaze shifting from the screen to the figure holding a pillow in the doorway.

A barely perceptible crack appeared in his expression. "What's wrong?"

"I can't sleep." Gu Yunjin walked to his bedside with a pillow in her arms, her tone frank.

"Can you lull me to sleep?"

Bai Junze looked at her for two seconds, then smiled.

It was a genuine smile that emanated from his eyes, making him look several years younger than usual.

He closed his laptop and placed it on the bedside table, moved it to the side, and lifted a corner of the blanket: "Come here."

Gu Yunjin lay down, and Bai Junze turned off the lamp, darkening the room until only a sliver of moonlight shone through the window.

He turned to his side, slipped one hand under her neck to let her rest her head on it, and gently patted her back with the other hand, the rhythm slow and even, as if he were coaxing a child who refused to sleep.

Then he started singing a very old children's song with a simple melody and childish lyrics, which was a nuclear explosion in contrast to his usual domineering CEO image.

His voice was low and slightly hoarse in the darkness, as if he were afraid of waking the whole house, or as if he were humming a private tune that he only wanted to hear from her.

Gu Yunjin didn't laugh at him. She snuggled closer to him and moved even closer.

He had a very pleasant smell, a clean scent with a faint hint of grass.

Her forehead rested just below his collarbone, and she could feel his steady, powerful heartbeat emanating from his chest, one beat after another, like the gentle, continuous tides on the distant sea.

The nursery rhyme stopped at some point, but his hand was still patting her back, though the rhythm slowed down until it was just gently resting on her waist.

Gu Yunjin's breathing gradually became long and even, her eyelashes curling slightly in the moonlight, like two quiet feathers.

Bai Junze, however, couldn't sleep.

He is not a person without self-control, but self-control seems to be less effective in this situation.

She nestled in his arms, her hair brushing against his chin, carrying the faint scent of her shampoo.

Her hand rested on his chest, her palm warm and soft.

He carefully maintained his posture, not daring to breathe too loudly, afraid of waking her, and also afraid of being exposed by some uncontrollable physiological reaction.

Later, I don't know when, my body finally gave up resisting due to exhaustion, and my consciousness blurred into a hazy dream.

In his dream, she was smiling at him, just like when she walked in carrying a pillow earlier, her eyes sparkling, her smile open and alluring.

The scene shifted between near and far, yet the tactile sensation was incredibly real. In his dream, he believed it to be real, even feeling himself pressed closer to her, enveloped by a certain tactile sensation that made him feel intoxicated.

Gu Yunjin was woken up by the bump.

It was still dark, and the room was bathed in a deep, somber blue light. In her drowsy state, she felt something hard pressing against her.

She moved slightly, trying to move away a little, but the sensation didn't disappear; instead, it pressed even closer.

She opened her eyes and found that Bai Junze was still asleep, but his breathing was a little rapid, his brows were slightly furrowed, his Adam's apple bobbed up and down, and his arms were tightly wrapped around her waist, pressed against her private parts—she was fully awake.

Then she felt him shudder suddenly, and a warm sensation spread through the fabric.

He seemed to be jolted awake by the noise, and suddenly opened his eyes to meet hers.

Both of them looked down at the same time. The wet patch on their pajama bottoms and sheets was quite large and seemed to be expanding.

To make matters worse, the hem of her nightgown was also wet, carrying a certain ambiguous temperature.

It took Bai Junze several seconds to realize what had happened.

His neck turned red at a visible speed, from his collarbone to the base of his ears, and then from the base of his ears to his entire auricle.

He sprang out of bed, his movements so fast it was as if he'd been electrocuted, but halfway there he realized his pajama bottoms and sheets were in a terrible state, so he could only stand there stiffly, grabbing a pillow to shield himself.

"I'm going to change my clothes."

Gu Yunjin covered her mouth, her shoulders still trembling slightly.

She watched him stand up, pull another set of pajamas from the closet, and stiffly walk into the bathroom.

The tap ran for a moment, then he came out again, his hair a few strands wet, his expression back to its usual calm—but if you looked closely, you would notice that his eyes were deliberately avoiding hers.

He walked to the bedside and bent down to remove the sheets.

"Don't take it apart, let the cleaning lady wash it tomorrow."

Gu Yunjin finally stopped laughing, stood up, and walked up to him.

She looked up at him, her tone natural.

"Come sleep in my room. We're getting our marriage certificate tomorrow. It's a perfectly normal thing."

This means you're normal, and so am I. There's no need to be so shy.

She tilted her head, looked at his unusually flushed face, and smiled, her eyes crinkling.

"But what did you dream about?"

Bai Junze did not answer; the roots of his ears had turned a deep, almost purple red.

Gu Yunjin didn't ask any more questions. She took his wrist, led him through the corridor, pushed open the door to the master bedroom, and moved her own pillow to the side to make room for him.

When Bai Junze lay down, his movements still carried a slight, almost imperceptible stiffness.

Gu Yunjin turned over to face him, took the initiative to reach out and pull his arm to her waist, and then closed her eyes.

This time, it was her turn to coax him to sleep.
