The Heiress's Game

Chapter 173 Accompanying Gu Yunjin to Work Overtime

After leaving the Civil Affairs Bureau, Gu Yunjin did not take Bai Junze to any high-end restaurant to celebrate. Instead, she led him into an alley hidden deep in the old city.

The alley was narrow, with densely packed old-style residential buildings on both sides. Colorful clothes were hanging on the balconies, and a lazy orange cat was squatting in the corner.

She stopped in front of a small shop without even a sign, opened the glass door with practiced ease, greeted the owner, and ordered two bowls of wonton noodles and two cups of iced lemon tea.

"This was recommended to me by Yuewei. I've eaten here several times." She broke the disposable chopsticks in half and handed them to Bai Junze.

"The owner is from the city of Zhoucheng. The wonton filling is handmade, and the shrimp are freshly peeled every morning. It tastes much better than those Michelin-starred restaurants."

Bai Junze picked up a wonton and took a bite. The skin was thin and the filling was bouncy. The sweet shrimp and pork juices exploded on his tongue.

He nodded. "It's delicious." He picked up another one.

After finishing their wonton noodles, the two of them slowly walked back along the alley, holding their iced lemon tea.

The afternoon sunlight, shattered into fragments of gold by the leaves of the sycamore trees, fell on their shoulders, while a gentle breeze carried the refreshing coolness of early autumn and a faint floral fragrance.

Gu Yunjin was about to tell Bai Junze about the afternoon's arrangements when her phone suddenly vibrated.

She glanced down, her brows furrowing almost imperceptibly. She stopped and quickly scrolled through a few pages of messages before looking up again.

"There's an urgent matter at Xingyao; a guest on the dating reality show is having some issues, and I need to go there for a meeting."

"I'll go with you," Bai Junze said.

"You may have to wait for me a while."

"Perfect timing, I also have a few emails to reply to." He took her hand and walked towards the parking lot, his tone calm and natural. "Let's go."

Xingyao Media rents the 16th floor of an office building in the core business district of Dahai City, and the entire floor has been opened up.

The interior design features large areas of white and light wood tones, complemented by floor-to-ceiling windows and greenery, creating a bright and youthful atmosphere.

When the glass door was pushed open, the receptionist was secretly scrolling through Weibo with her head down. Out of the corner of her eye, she caught a glimpse of a tall and slender figure walking in and subconsciously greeted her, "Hello, Miss Gu."

Then she saw the man who followed Gu Yunjin in, and her whole body seemed to freeze in shock.

He was a very tall man, wearing a dark gray shirt with the cuffs rolled up to his wrists, and a watch on his left wrist.

His features are exactly the same as the cold face on the cover of the financial magazine, but he is much better looking in person than in the photos—broad shoulders, long legs, and a cool demeanor. Standing next to the fiddle-leaf fig in the company, he is half a head taller than the plant.

He opened the glass door for Gu Yunjin as he entered, and nodded slightly as he passed the reception desk, his voice deep and magnetic: "Hello."

The receptionist used all her professional skills to keep from screaming. Once the two were out of sight, she immediately buried herself in the staff group chat and started typing furiously.

"Family members!!!! Miss Gu brought her fiancé to the company!!! Bai Junze himself!!! The real Bai Junze!!! He spoke to me!!! He said hello!!!"

The group chat exploded instantly, with over a dozen replies flooding in within three seconds—

"Bai Junze!!!"

"That one from Yunjing?!" "What does he look like in person? Is he the same as in the magazines?"

"Where is she? Where is she? I'll go pretend to get some water right away and check on her divine face!"

Gu Yunjin had already entered the conference room, and Bai Junze was led into Gu Yunjin's office by Li Chunjing.

Having followed Gu Yunjin for so long, Li Chunjing knew all too well what she should and shouldn't ask, and smiled as she said, "Mr. Bai."

"Mr. Gu's meeting will probably last an hour. Please feel free to call me if you need anything," he said, and then gently closed the door.

He was the only one left in the office.

He sat down on the sofa, opened his laptop, and began processing emails.

Sunlight streamed in through the floor-to-ceiling windows. He typed at a steady pace, occasionally pausing to check his phone, as if waiting for a message from someone.

In the break room, two female colleagues pretended to be getting water from their cups, but were actually whispering to each other.

The short-haired girl clutched her chest, her voice low but brimming with barely suppressed excitement: "We bumped into each other in the hallway just now! He even stepped aside to let me pass!"

I said thank you and he nodded—I'm still savoring the curve of that nod! And he really is very tall.

Most importantly, he's so handsome! He and Miss Gu are such a perfect match. I can't even imagine how good-looking their children will be.

Another colleague, who wore glasses, lowered his voice even further, but his eyes gleamed with gossip: "So, that rumor circulating in the company before was true?"

"What news?"

"The company is moving to Yunjing!" The bespectacled colleague looked around to make sure no one was passing by before getting a little closer.

"Think about it, once Miss Gu and Mr. Bai get married, they'll definitely be staying in Yunjing for a long time."

Xingyao is Miss Gu's own company, not Gu's property. Isn't it a logical thing for it to move to Yunjing?

Moreover, Mr. Nan mentioned it once at a management meeting, saying that everyone should be mentally prepared—I thought he was just saying it casually at the time, but now it seems he really meant it.

"Yunjing is not bad either," the short-haired colleague thought for a moment.

"Yunjing is the center of the national entertainment industry; TV stations, streaming platforms, and production companies are all there. It's just a bit cold in the winter..."

"So you're planning to move with the company?"

"Of course I'll follow! Working with Miss Gu is a promising career path. The second season of 'Walking with Brilliance' is about to start filming, and the new dating reality show 'Heartbeat Countdown' is also in preparation. Which of these projects would be better than the competition?"

"And now that the boss has married into the Bai family, will we still have to worry about resources for our company?"

The short-haired colleague got more and more excited as he talked, then suddenly changed the subject, his eyes turning into stars.

"Most importantly, will Mr. Bai come to pick up Miss Gu from get off work often in the future?"

Wouldn't that mean we could see this perfect couple more often? Mr. Bai's looks are even better than those handsome guys on dating reality shows! Oh my god, just thinking about it makes me so happy.
