The Heiress's Game

Chapter 182 Life is Full of Surprises

When Bai Junze pushed the door open with the ointment, Gu Yunjin was lying on the bed pretending to be dead.

She buried her face in the pillow, and when she heard the door open and footsteps, she didn't lift her head, but just waved one hand at him.

A muffled voice came from under the pillow: "Just put it on the bedside table, I can do it myself."

Bai Junze sat down by the bed, unscrewed the cap of the ointment, and spoke in a tone that left no room for negotiation.

"The doctor said you're not feeling well, so let me help you."

Gu Yunjin turned over, looked at the ointment in his hand and his serious face, and stared at the ceiling with a look of utter despair.

The thought that she would have to endure this social death for several more days, twice a day, morning and evening, made her realize that life is full of surprises.

Bai Junze then dipped a cotton swab in the ointment and carefully applied it to her.

His technique has indeed become more and more skillful, and his control over the force has become better and better, but this does not change one fact:

That part, that posture, that angle from which he scrutinized her so closely—every time, she wanted to bury her face in the pillow and never come out again.

"All done." Bai Junze threw the cotton swab into the trash can, screwed on the ointment cap, and took out a wet wipe to wipe his hands.

Gu Yunjin pulled down the hem of her nightgown, rolled over and lay flat, staring at the ceiling, and slowly spoke in a calm and detached tone.

"You know what? I've lived for 26 years and I've never felt this desperate before."

"It's not that exaggerated. We're a married couple. It's normal between husband and wife."

"Even a marriage can't erase the fact that she died." Gu Yunjin turned over and buried her face in the pillow, her voice muffled.

"Next time, if you're not feeling well, tell me in advance," Bai Junze said with a serious expression.

Gu Yunjin lifted her face from the pillow, turned to look at him, her gaze sincere and embarrassed: "At that time, I was only thinking about... the pleasure. The discomfort only came after I woke up."

Bai Junze paused for a moment, then burst out laughing.

Gu Yunjin belatedly realized what she had just said—it sounded like a vulgar and offensive remark.

She buried her face back in the pillow, her ears so red they looked like they could bleed.

After applying the medicine, the two leaned against the headboard, one flipping through a magazine and the other replying to emails, and the atmosphere gradually returned to normal after their earlier passionate conversation.

Gu Yunjin suddenly remembered something, put down the magazine and turned to look at him.

"Don't be angry with Yuewei. She didn't mean it. She just talks faster than she thinks and dares to say anything."

Bai Junze raised an eyebrow slightly upon hearing this: "Why would I be angry with her?"

"She said you...you're no good...or something like that." Gu Yunjin managed to utter those words with difficulty.

Bai Junze thought for a second before realizing what she was talking about, and he gently shook his head:

"If you hadn't mentioned it, I would have almost forgotten about it."

"She said this is the second time this has happened, and today she said such hurtful things in front of you again—she's afraid you'll take it to heart."

"It's not that bad." Bai Junze put down his phone.

"Qian Yuewei and Tianyi are the same kind of people, straightforward and honest, with no ill intentions. In my eyes, she's just a kid."

He paused, then suddenly turned to look at Gu Yunjin, a faint smile in his eyes, "Of course, in my eyes, you are also a child."

There's no reason for a person in their thirties to get angry with a child.

"Why am I a kid now?"

"What else could someone be but a child if they couldn't blush for half a day over a single sentence?"

Bai Junze looked away and picked up his phone again.

"Okay, go to sleep early. You need to apply the medicine tomorrow morning."

Gu Yunjin rested her head on his shoulder. "Yes, we have to go through another round of social strife tomorrow morning."
