Just as Zhang Wanquan was about to press the button, he froze.

He glanced down at his clothes. He had rushed out of the room, and only three buttons of his shirt were fastened, the collar was crooked, and there was a small lipstick stain on his waistband. He could smell another woman's perfume even without looking.

His hand stopped on the screen.

If the police come and ask him why he was at this hotel, how will he explain it?

How will Zhou Yu explain this?

He took a deep breath, bent down, and picked up the shattered phone from the ground.

He stared at the number for a few seconds, then turned and strode quickly toward the elevator.

He didn't continue banging on the door, nor did he shout again.

He walked straight downstairs, through the hotel lobby, and to the front desk.

The receptionist was looking down at her computer when she heard someone approach. She looked up and gave a professional smile: "Hello sir, how can I help you?"

Zhang Wanquan took his ID card out of his pocket and slapped it on the table.

"Room 509, my wife is inside. She forgot her room key. Could you please open the door for me?"

The receptionist's gaze fell on the ID card, then she glanced at Zhang Wanquan's anxious expression, and smiled politely: "Sir, I'm sorry, but according to our hotel policy, room cards can only be collected by the guest in person with their ID card, or by the guest calling the front desk to confirm authorization."

"Then give her a call."

"Make her tell you herself that I'm her husband, and then you open the door for me."

"Okay, sir, please wait a moment."

The receptionist picked up the landline phone and dialed room number 512.

The phone rang three or four times, but no one answered.

She dialed again, but no one answered.

She hung up the phone and looked at Zhang Wanquan apologetically.

"Sir, the room phone isn't answering. Your wife might be resting. Would you mind having her call the front desk?"

Zhang Wanquan closed his eyes, his clenched fist hovered on the table for two seconds, then he relaxed, turned around, and strode out.

As he stepped out of the hotel, a night breeze blew by, carrying with it the exhaust fumes from cars on the street and the smell of cooking oil from roadside barbecue stalls.

He stood on the steps, looking at the bustling street in front of him, his mind a jumbled mess.

In room 508, Zhou Yu was still waiting for him.

He'd been leaving her there for over half an hour; she was probably cursing at him.

But he had no time to care about Zhou Yu; his mind was filled with the voice that had come from behind that door, Lin Xiaoyu’s words spoken into the microphone.

At the same time, in room 509, Lin Zheng heard footsteps outside the door suddenly fall silent.

He stopped what he was doing and turned his head to look towards the door.

"He's gone."

Lin Xiaoyu, panting, turned her head to listen for a moment, then reached out and pulled Lin Zheng down, bringing her lips close to his ear.

"He must have gone to the front desk to ask for the room key."

"Should we leave?" Lin Zheng asked.

Lin Xiaoyu said, "No rush. He likes to catch people cheating, so I'll let him experience what it's like to be caught cheating."

As soon as she finished speaking, Lin Xiaoyu took out a new phone and dialed Liu Kaishan's number.

"Liu Kaishan, your wife is having an affair with Zhang Wanquan in room 508 of the Huaihai Hotel."

"If you want to see it for yourself, you can still come now."

There was a two-second silence on the other end of the phone, followed by the sound of a chair being shoved back, and a man's voice suddenly changing as he demanded, "Who are you?"

"Don't worry about who I am, just trust me and come over."

"If you don't believe me, then let your wife be played by Zhang Wanquan."

Lin Xiaoyu hung up the phone before Liu Kaishan could react.

Lin Zheng asked, "You want Liu Kaishan to come and arrest him?"

Lin Xiaoyu said, "Didn't he want to arrest me?"

"Then let him see who's arresting whom."

"Since he won't get the room key anytime soon, I want to enjoy myself one last time."

"Lin Zheng, come on."

Lin Zheng didn't hold back either, immediately launching a new round of combat with Lin Xiaoyu.

At the front desk of the Huaihai Hotel, Zhang Wanquan's phone vibrated; a text message had been sent.

"Liu Kaishan already knows you're having an affair with his wife and is on his way to the Huaihai Hotel."

The person who sent the text message was his assistant, whom he had placed next to Liu Kaishan.

Upon seeing this message, Zhang Wanquan's face turned completely pale.

At that moment, he couldn't care less about catching the adulterer and quickly walked towards the safety passage.

The elevator was too slow. He didn't even want to think about what would happen if Liu Kaishan really came and bumped into him as he came up from the lobby.

He pushed open the emergency exit door and rushed upstairs.

His phone vibrated again in his pocket, but he didn't bother to look at it.

At the door of room 508, Zhou Yu was leaning against the wall, holding a long, thin cigarette between her fingers, the ash already quite thick.

She was wearing a burgundy slip dress with a sheer cardigan over it; her hair was a little messy, and her makeup was smudged.

Seeing Zhang Wanquan rushing over, she frowned: "Where have you been? You've made me wait alone for over half an hour."

"Don't ask anymore, let's go."

Zhang Wanquan grabbed her wrist with great force, causing Zhou Yu to stumble.

"Are you crazy? What's wrong?"

"Liu Kaishan is here."

Has Liu Kaishan arrived?

Zhou Yu nearly dropped the cigarette in her hand: "Why is he here?"

"Someone called him and said, 'You're with me here.'"

Zhang Wanquan didn't have time to explain any more, and pulled Zhou Yu quickly toward the fire escape at the end of the corridor.

Instead of taking the stairs, he led Zhou Yu through the kitchen on the first floor and out the hotel's back door via the staff entrance.

The back door leads to a narrow alley, with empty beer crates and black garbage bags piled up on both sides.

A black Passat was parked at the alley entrance; it was Zhang Wanquan's car.

He opened the passenger door, shoved Zhou Yu inside, and then went around to the driver's seat to start the car.

The car had just left the alley and merged into the main road traffic.

A dozen minutes later, Zhang Wanquan's phone rang.

The caller ID showed Liu Kaishan's name.

Zhang Wanquan didn't answer and hung up immediately.

Liu Kaishan called again, and he hung up again.

When the phone rang for the third time, he took a deep breath and pressed the answer button.

The voice on the other end of the phone boomed like thunder.

"Zhang Wanquan, where the hell are you?"

"Are you crazy, calling me in the middle of the night to ask me questions?"

"Don't play dumb with me. Weren't you at the Huaihai Hotel just now?"

Zhang Wanquan's voice also turned cold.

"So what if it is?"

"What business is it of yours if I go to a hotel to book a room?"

Who did you take with you?

"Who I bring is none of your business."

Zhang Wanquan gripped the steering wheel, his tone growing increasingly cold.

"Liu Kaishan, you just need to mind your own business."

"Where your wife goes is none of your business, and where I go is none of your business either."

"Zhang Wanquan, I curse your ancestors for eighteen generations."

"You fucking messed with my wife, I won't let you get away with this."
