Shen Huai's Adam's apple bobbed twice as he watched her obediently nod.

His body was taut like a fully drawn bow; if he stayed any longer, there was no guarantee what he might do.

"Go to sleep early, and lock the door." Shen Huai straightened up, his voice low and still hoarse. "I'll pick you up tomorrow morning."

Su Nianhe obediently responded.

Shen Huai didn't linger any longer, turned around and strode out of the main room.

Su Nianhe breathed a long sigh of relief upon hearing the crisp sound of the courtyard gate locking.

The next morning, just as dawn was breaking.

In June, dawn breaks early, and even the bicycle bells haven't rung in the alley yet.

Su Nianhe was half asleep when she heard the roar of a car engine outside the yard, followed by two short honks of a car horn.

She quickly put on her clothes, got up, and ran to open the door in her cloth shoes.

As soon as the door opened, a military green jeep stopped at the alley entrance.

Shen Huai, wearing a crisp white shirt, stepped out of the car with his long legs, carrying several fried dough sticks wrapped in brown paper and two cups of soy milk.

"Why are you up so early?" Su Nianhe rubbed her eyes, her hair still a little messy.

"It's a long way to the provincial capital, we have to leave early." Shen Huai pushed open the courtyard gate, led the person inside, and then locked the door frame.

He walked to the sink with practiced ease, picked up a basin, poured in hot water, added some cold water, and tested the water temperature.

"Come wash your face." Shen Huai raised his chin.

Su Nianhe walked over and was about to put her hand into the basin when Shen Huai had already washed and wrung out a towel, which he then smeared directly onto her face.

The man's hands were large, and they almost completely covered her face through the towel.

He wiped it lightly, his movements not exactly gentle, but certainly not rough.

"I can do it myself." Su Nianhe blushed as he wiped her face.

Shen Huai hung the towel on the wire. "Rinse your mouth, go sit at the table, and eat breakfast."

Su Nianhe obediently went to rinse her mouth and sat down at the stone table.

Shen Huai opened the brown paper package; the fried dough was still steaming.

He pushed the soy milk towards her.

Su Nianhe took a bite of the fried dough, looked up at him, and asked, "Have you eaten?"

"Eat on the way." Shen Huai pulled out a chair next to her and sat down, watching her eat. "Eat a few more bites, we won't be able to eat lunch until we get to the provincial capital."

Su Nianhe ate two fried dough cakes and then stopped eating.

Shen Huai didn't force him, and simply took the remaining bites and stuffed them into his own mouth.

"Go inside and sit down, I'll collect your clothes." After finishing his meal, Shen Huai patted the crumbs off his hands, stood up, and walked towards the main room.

Su Nianhe followed behind, saying, "I can pack it myself, there's not much stuff."

Shen Huai ignored her and directly opened the old wardrobe against the wall.

He was always decisive and efficient. He glanced at the cabinet, picked out two decent short-sleeved shirts and trousers, folded them neatly, and placed them on the bed.

"We need to stay at a guesthouse in the provincial capital, so bring two sets of clothes to change into," Shen Huai said as he pulled out a drawer at the bottom of the cabinet.

The drawer was pulled open, revealing several neatly folded pieces of underwear.

Shen Huai stopped moving.

His fingers had barely touched the soft fabric when he felt a burn and immediately pulled them back.

The room was silent for two seconds.

Su Nianhe peeked over and her face instantly turned bright red. She quickly ran over and pushed the drawer shut.

"I already said I'd keep it myself." Her voice was so soft it was like a mosquito's buzz.

Shen Huai coughed lightly, the tips of his ears turning a suspicious red.

He straightened up, took two steps to the side, and said, "You can pretend it yourself."

After saying that, he strode out of the main house and went to the courtyard for some fresh air.

With a blush, Su Nianhe stuffed the things into her handbag, tied it tightly, and walked out.

The two got into the jeep.

The car belonged to He Jianjun; it was very spacious.

Shen Huai started the car, skillfully shifted gears and stepped on the gas, and the jeep drove out of Jiang City and onto the national highway leading to the provincial capital.

The car window was half open, and the morning breeze blew in, making it quite cool.

"I got the letter of introduction from the factory's logistics department." Shen Huai gripped the steering wheel with one hand and got down to business. "The first thing we're doing in the provincial capital is checking out the market demand there. The second thing is finding a place to rent a warehouse."

Su Nianhe sat in the passenger seat, listening attentively.

"Why rent a warehouse?"

"Your business is getting bigger and bigger," Shen Huai analyzed for her. "If He Jianjun gets the goods from Yangcheng and transports them all to Jiangshi, the transportation costs will be high, and your small yard simply won't be able to hold them all."

He turned his head and glanced at her.

"The provincial capital is a transportation hub, so we can set up a warehouse there and ship He Jianjun's goods directly there. In Jiang City, you can have Zhu Yuanyuan and Li Lianhua handle retail and distribution. As for the market in the provincial capital, you can directly connect with large wholesalers." Shen Huai explained clearly, "You sit in the middle and profit from both ends. That's called channel monopoly."

Su Nianhe's mind was racing.

This man's business acumen was even more astute than hers.

"But I'm unfamiliar with the provincial capital; where am I supposed to connect with large wholesalers?"

"I'm not here," Shen Huai said casually. "I went to university in the provincial capital, I have a lot of classmates there. I've paved the way for you, you just need to do the accounting and collect the money."

Looking at his profile as he drove, Su Nianhe felt very at ease.

Three hours later, the jeep drove into the city center of the provincial capital.

The provincial capital is much more prosperous than Jiang City, with wide roads and large state-owned stores on both sides of the road.

Shen Huai didn't take her shopping. The car made several turns and stopped directly in front of an office building with a sign for the Industry and Commerce Bureau.

"Get out of the car, I need to take you to do some serious business." Shen Huai pulled out the car keys.

Su Nianhe followed him into the office building.

The door to an office on the second floor was open. Shen Huai walked to the door and knocked on the door with his finger.

A young man wearing black-rimmed glasses sat behind the desk, looking down at a newspaper.

Hearing the noise, the man looked up, paused for a moment, then stood up and burst into laughter.

"Old Shen! How come you, such a busy man, have time to come all the way to the provincial capital!"

This man is Zhou Peng, my best friend from university, where we shared a bunk bed. After graduation, he was assigned to the Provincial Administration for Industry and Commerce.

Shen Huai walked in and punched him on the shoulder.

"I've come to ask you for a favor." Shen Huai went straight to the point, pulling Su Nianhe in front of him. "This is Su Nianhe."

Zhou Peng's gaze fell on Su Nianhe, his eyes lit up, and he quickly pushed up his glasses.

"This girl is really beautiful." Zhou Peng teased Shen Huai, "Old Shen, you never read the letters your female classmates wrote to you in school, turns out you were hiding such a beauty. What's up, sister-in-law?"

Su Nianhe felt embarrassed by his address of "sister-in-law" and lowered her head without replying.

Shen Huai was frank and did not deny it at all.

"Stop talking nonsense, I need you to get a sole proprietorship business license." Shen Huai pulled out a chair for Su Nianhe to sit down, then leaned against the desk himself.

Zhou Peng put away his joking expression and picked up his pen.

"Getting the certificate is easy, did you bring the necessary documents?"

Shen Huai took out a prepared letter of introduction and identification from his briefcase and handed them over.

Zhou Peng glanced at it and said, "Why are people from Jiang City coming all the way to the provincial capital to get licenses? It's not like the Jiang City Administration for Industry and Commerce won't approve them."

Shen Huai snorted coldly.

"My dad has blocked the application in Jiang City." Shen Huai's tone was calm, but it revealed his dissatisfaction. "As long as it's Su Nianhe's name, the Jiang City Administration for Industry and Commerce won't stamp it at all."

Zhou Peng suddenly realized.

Shen Wanshan is the top official in Jiang City. If he doesn't give his approval, who in any of the departments would dare to approve a document for the mayor's thorn in his side?

"Alright, Uncle's still as stubborn as ever." Zhou Peng deftly stamped the form with two red seals and signed his name. "But in the provincial capital, he can't interfere. I'll get this certificate for you."

In less than twenty minutes, a brand-new individual business license was handed to Su Nianhe.

Su Nianhe held the paper, stroking her name over and over with her fingertips, a smile involuntarily creeping onto her lips.

With this, she no longer has to live in fear and play cat and mouse with the urban management officers.

Seeing how happy she was, Shen Huai reached out and ruffled her hair.

"This is my fault," Shen Huai said. "The Jiang City branch couldn't process it, and it's my fault for dragging you into this. Consider this certificate my apology."

Su Nianhe carefully put the license into her cloth bag and shook her head.

"It's not your fault. I'm already very grateful that you brought me to the provincial capital to get things done."

Zhou Peng watched the two of them being so affectionate, and felt so jealous he could hardly contain himself.

"Alright, now that you're done, treat me to lunch. I even skipped my lunch break because of this stupid certificate of yours."

Shen Huai readily agreed, "Let's go to the state-run restaurant, order whatever you like."

The three of them left the Industry and Commerce Bureau and went to the largest state-owned restaurant in the vicinity.

Shen Huai ordered a table full of delicious dishes, including braised carp, stir-fried pork slices, and pork ribs stewed with green beans.

During the meal, Zhou Peng chatted with Shen Huai about interesting things that happened in college, while Su Nianhe listened quietly. Occasionally, Shen Huai would stop and put a piece of food on her plate.

After finishing his meal, Zhou Peng went back to work.

Shen Huai led Su Nianhe back to the jeep.

"Where should we go next to check the warehouse?" Su Nianhe asked.

Shen Huai started the car.

"Don't bother with the warehouse." Shen Huai turned the steering wheel. "Let's go to the guesthouse first."
