The voluptuous and beautiful nanny, Technician Shen fell for her.
Chapter 43 The Ambiguity in the Kitchen
Su Nianhe carried her vegetable basket, her feet treading on the scorching asphalt, and ran all the way back to the municipal party committee compound.
When she arrived at the Shen family's gate, she stopped to catch her breath and touched her lips.
The man's warmth and that indescribable touch seemed to linger on her lips.
Is this what dating is all about?
Technician Shen, such a high and mighty person, actually pinned her against the wall behind the water tower and kissed her.
She calmed her racing heart, picked up her basket, and pushed open the door.
In the living room, Wang Liping was sitting on the sofa flipping through a magazine, with a half-full glass of cold water next to her.
She wasn't on duty at noon today, so she came back early.
Hearing the noise, Wang Liping looked up and glanced at Su Nianhe.
"You took so long to buy groceries?" Wang Liping tossed the magazine onto the coffee table, staring at Su Nianhe's face. "Why is your face so red? Your lips are swollen too. Who were you fooling around with outside?"
Su Nianhe's heart pounded with anxiety, and she quickly held the shopping basket in front of her, saying, "The sun is too strong outside, it's so hot. We're having spicy food for lunch, I just tried some chili powder at the grocery store."
Wang Liping snorted, not thinking much of it, and waved her hand: "Hurry up and get busy in the kitchen. Ping An has been making a fuss all morning, I'm so annoyed."
Su Nianhe felt as if she had been granted a pardon and carried her basket into the kitchen on the first floor.
Aunt Wang was holding Shen Ping'an and pacing around the kitchen doorway. When she saw her come in, she lowered her voice and complained, "Nianhe, you're finally back. You've been in a terrible temper today. Be careful when you cook later."
Su Nianhe nodded, took the vegetables and tofu out of the basket, and placed them by the sink.
She turned on the tap and rinsed the back of her hands with cold water, which finally brought down her body temperature a little.
Amidst the sound of flowing water, the familiar clanging of a bicycle chain echoed from outside the courtyard.
Su Nianhe was a beat slow in washing the vegetables.
Shen Huai pushed the cart into the yard and propped it up under the shade of a tree.
He was wearing a white short-sleeved shirt today, with two buttons undone at the collar, as he stepped into the living room.
Liu Huizhen happened to come down from the second floor, holding a palm-leaf fan in her hand.
"Xiao Huai, you're back?" Liu Huizhen walked over and asked expectantly, "How did the conversation with Xiao Liu from the propaganda department of the state-run coffee shop go? She's a high school graduate, and her parents work in respectable organizations."
Shen Huai placed his briefcase on the cabinet and said in a flat tone, "I didn't like it."
Liu Huizhen stopped fanning herself: "You didn't like him? What's wrong with him that makes him unworthy of you?"
"You talk too much, it's giving me a headache." Shen Huai casually made up an excuse, his gaze already passing over the living room and landing on the half-open kitchen door.
Liu Huizhen was exasperated: "You child, you're not looking for a mute partner! How can we live together if we don't talk?"
Shen Huai ignored Liu Huizhen's nagging, rolled up the sleeves of his short-sleeved shirt to reveal his muscular forearms, and strode towards the kitchen.
In the kitchen, Su Nianhe was cutting tofu with her head down.
The tender tofu was cut into neat little pieces on the cutting board. She held the cleaver, but her mind was in complete turmoil.
I heard steady footsteps behind me.
Su Nianhe thought it was Aunt Wang, and without turning her head, said, "Aunt Wang, could you pass me the scallions over there?"
A clean green onion was handed to her.
The hand that handed over the scallions had distinct knuckles, and the veins on the back of the hand were clearly visible.
Su Nianhe's hand trembled, and she almost cut her finger with the kitchen knife.
She turned around, and Shen Huai was already standing behind her.
The two were very close, and the refreshing scent of soap on him completely masked the smell of cooking oil in the kitchen.
Aunt Wang was playing with the child at the door when she saw Shen Huai come in. She immediately picked up Shen Ping'an and walked into the yard, closing half of the kitchen door behind her.
He was still thinking to himself that the youngest son of the Shen family might be a pervert, so it was better to stay away.
The space became cramped.
Su Nianhe shifted slightly to the side, her back pressed against the stove, her voice trembling softly, "Why did you come in?"
Shen Huai took a step forward, blocking her between the sink and the stove.
"If we're dating, can't I help my partner in the kitchen?" he said matter-of-factly, picking up a cleaver from the cutting board. "What am I chopping?"
Su Nianhe was completely dumbfounded by his overbearing attitude.
"Chop...chop the scallions," she stammered in response.
Shen Huai lowered his head, and with a few swift strokes, chopped the scallions into fine pieces.
He was tall, and had to bend slightly over when standing by the sink, his shoulder muscles filling out his white shirt.
After chopping the scallions, he put down the knife, turned around, and looked at her.
Su Nianhe was wearing a blue floral-patterned blouse with the collar buttoned up tightly, but because she had been running around outside and had sweated a bit, the sweet, fruity scent was stronger than usual, wafting out in wisps.
Shen Huai moved forward half an inch.
With nowhere to retreat, Su Nianhe brushed against the edge of his shirt.
Startled, she reached out and pushed against his chest: "Don't do that, Aunt Liu is right outside."
Shen Huai took her hand in his.
His palms had thin calluses, and when he brushed against the skin on the back of her hand, it brought a tingling sensation.
"Why are you running so fast?" Shen Huai asked, his head down, his voice low so only the two of them could hear. "Were you uncomfortable kissing behind the water tower?"
Su Nianhe's neck turned bright red.
Why does this man blurt out everything?
"Please stop talking," she said hastily, covering his mouth.
Shen Huai didn't dodge, letting her soft palm touch his lips.
He opened his mouth and gently bit her palm.
Su Nianhe gasped and quickly pulled her hand back; her fingertips were burning hot.
Shen Huai chuckled softly, hooking his fingers around the hem of her old jacket and gently lifting it up a little.
"Did you hurt yourself when you bumped your head on the stove?"
Summer clothes are thin, and his fingers touched the soft flesh of her waist directly.
Su Nianhe's body went limp, and she almost couldn't stand up if she hadn't been holding onto the stove.
"No...please go out, the food isn't ready yet," she pleaded softly, her watery eyes filled with helplessness.
Shen Huai didn't leave; instead, he lowered his head to find her lips.
Just then, Liu Huizhen's footsteps could be heard outside.
"Xiao Huai! What are you doing in the kitchen!"
Su Nianhe was so frightened that she pushed Shen Huai away and grabbed a rag from the cutting board to start wiping the stove haphazardly.
Shen Huai was pushed back half a step, then slowly turned around to face the kitchen doorway.
Liu Huizhen pushed open the door and walked in. She saw Shen Huai standing by the sink with his sleeves rolled up, and her face turned green.
"Is the kitchen a man's place?" Liu Huizhen walked over, grabbed Shen Huai's arm, and pulled him outside. "The smell of cooking oil is so strong, it's made your shirt all dirty. We have a housekeeper, why do you need to do this?"
Shen Huai picked up a bunch of greens from the sink and turned on the tap.
"Mom, I was just worried that you'd be too upset to eat."
Shen Huai spoke calmly, making an excuse without changing his expression, "The blind date didn't work out because I was too picky. As your son, I'll personally cook some vegetables for you to make up for it, so please don't be angry."
Upon hearing this, Liu Huizhen's expression immediately softened considerably.
She usually dotes on her youngest son the most, and seeing that he actually took the initiative to wash vegetables to please her warmed her heart.
"At least you still have some conscience." Liu Huizhen patted his shoulder, her tone softening. "Alright, let Nianhe wash these vegetables. You're a grown man, your hands are for drawing blueprints, how can you get them in this cold water?"
"I'll go see another one this afternoon."
Liu Huizhen was still saying, "This is the political commissar's niece. She's pretty and generous. You'd better be there at 2 p.m. sharp this afternoon. Don't make any more excuses to leave."
