Su Nianhe held her chopsticks, looked at the bowl of rice in front of her, and then at the person opposite her.

Aren't you going to eat?

"I've already eaten at the compound." Shen Huai leaned back in his chair, his long legs stretched out under the table, the tips of his shoes touching Su Nianhe's ankles.

Su Nianhe tried to pull her foot back, but Shen Huai wouldn't allow it. He pressed the tip of his shoe directly onto the surface of her shoe, preventing her from moving.

She could only stand there stiffly, head down, shoveling rice into her bowl.

Shen Huai rested his chin on one hand, his gaze fixed on her face.

Su Nianhe felt extremely uncomfortable during the meal.

His gaze was extremely aggressive, as if he wanted to see right through her.

She picked up a piece of tomato with her chopsticks and put it in her mouth, but couldn't even taste the sweet and sour flavor.

"Who came to see you this afternoon?" Shen Huai suddenly asked, his tone certain.

Su Nianhe tightened her grip on the chopsticks: "No one's coming."

"No one's coming, so where's this sour grapes attitude coming from?" Shen Huai bluntly called her out.

Su Nianhe raised her head and met his unfathomable eyes.

She slammed her chopsticks on the table, her temper flaring: "Li Lianhua came this afternoon. She said she went to the compound to deliver something and saw a girl from Director Zhou's family wearing a yellow dress."

Shen Huai didn't respond, but shifted to a more comfortable position and leaned back, waiting for her to continue.

Seeing his indifferent attitude, Su Nianhe felt her anger and resentment well up inside her.

"She said that the female college student went to the study on the second floor with you. Aunt Liu was especially happy." Su Nianhe finished speaking in one breath, her eyes fixed on the patterns on the table.

The courtyard fell silent. Summer insects chirped in the corner.

Shen Huai looked at her, her face puffed up with anger yet trying her best not to lash out, and his chest trembled as he let out a low chuckle.

He stood up, walked around the small square table, and went to her side.

Before Su Nianhe could react, he turned her and her chair around.

Shen Huai braced his hands on the armrests of the chair, completely trapping her in his shadow.

"Zhou Xiaoman came to visit me while I was sick," Shen Huai said in a low voice. "My mother does want to play matchmaker, but I don't have the time for that."

Su Nianhe looked up: "Then what are you doing on the second floor?"

"She came to me with a question about mechanical principles," Shen Huai said frankly, without the slightest hint of guilt. "I explained gear transmission to her for ten minutes, and then she left. She didn't even close the study door."

After hearing this, Su Nianhe felt a lot of sourness dissipate instantly. But she still refused to admit defeat.

"When a man and a woman go to the study alone, who knows if they're just going to talk about problems?"

Shen Huai smiled.

He cupped the back of her head with his large hand, turned his head, and kissed her.

The kiss came very quickly, carrying a punitive connotation.

Su Nianhe was breathless from his kisses, and her hands pressed against his shoulders, but he held her even tighter.

Only when she had no strength left to resist and could only lean limply against the back of the chair did Shen Huai move back slightly by half an inch.

"If something really happens, ten minutes isn't enough time to do anything," Shen Huai said, his voice hoarse as he pressed his lips to hers.

Su Nianhe's cheeks turned bright red, and she quickly turned her head away to avoid his gaze.

This man never refrained from speaking his mind, yet he always wore an extremely serious face.

"I haven't finished eating yet," she protested softly.

"Eat your food." Shen Huai let go of her, then pulled over a chair next to him and sat down beside her.

Su Nianhe picked up her chopsticks again, her heart pounding.

Shen Huai was right next to her, with one arm draped over the back of her chair, watching her finish her meal.

Su Nianhe scooped out the last grain of rice from the bowl.

Shen Huai stood up and, quite naturally, stacked the two empty bowls together, along with the empty plate of stir-fried pork with tomatoes, and carried them to the sink.

"I'll wash it." Su Nianhe quickly stood up and went to take it from him.

"Sit down." Shen Huai didn't stop, directly using his elbow to block her. "Your hands are for counting money, don't get them wet."

Su Nianhe was speechless after hearing his words and could only stand by the sink.

Shen Huai was tall, so he had to bend slightly to stand in front of the makeshift water trough. The cuffs of his white shirt were rolled up on his forearms, and the running water washed over his well-defined knuckles.

His dishwashing movements were not at all clumsy; he actually looked quite skilled.

Because it was evening, much of the heat dissipated.

The two walked into the courtyard.

Shen Huai pulled up two bamboo chairs and placed them side by side next to the small square table.

Su Nianhe sat down, and Shen Huai followed suit.

The two chairs were close together, and his knee touched her trouser leg.

"You don't ask me about things, you just start arguing with me first." Shen Huai said casually, laying everything out on the table.

Su Nianhe fiddled with the armrest of the bamboo chair with her fingers. "I'm not being difficult."

"I wasn't arguing. I was so angry when I was cutting the meat that I wanted to chop the cutting board through it." Shen Huai ruthlessly exposed him.

Su Nianhe remained silent.

Shen Huai rested his elbows on his knees and turned his head to look at her.

"Su Nianhe, do you think that someone from a family like mine will always go on blind dates arranged by my family?"

That's too blunt.

Su Nianhe bit her lower lip. "Aunt Liu likes that kind of thing."

"It's her business if she likes someone." Shen Huai wasn't angry. "You're wary of me, and you think the people in the compound are unreliable. That's normal. But you haven't figured it out."

"What bend?"

"You can use me even if you don't trust me," Shen Huai said.

Su Nianhe was stunned, completely failing to understand the logic behind that statement.

"Use you?"

"Yes." Shen Huai reached out and pulled her hand, which was resting on the armrest, into his palm. "For example, if you want to set up a stall now, you have to go to Guangzhou to pick up the goods. The travel expenses, food and lodging, plus the risks on the way, all of these are costs. And you're a girl, taking a slow train for several days and nights. If something happens, you won't even have anyone to talk to."

Su Nianhe began to calculate in her mind.

"But since I'm here, you can skip all that." Shen Huai's fingertips caressed the back of her hand. "He Jianjun is the ready-made channel. He gets the goods from the south and gives you the bottom price. You don't have to brave the wind and sun, you don't have to worry, the goods are delivered directly to your hands."

Su Nianhe did the math.

Indeed, not going to Guangzhou can save a lot of money, and all the profits go into your own pocket.

Shen Huai looked into her shining eyes and continued to teach her.

"Work steadily for two months, grow your capital, and save up some money before we talk about anything else." Shen Huai pinched her fingers one by one. "That's what I'm good for now."

Su Nianhe felt awkward upon hearing this.

"It's not that I don't trust you," she retorted softly. "And I didn't intend to take advantage of you."

"I know." Shen Huai squeezed her fingertips. "I'm just teaching you how to do things in your own best interest. Always think of yourself first."

Su Nianhe raised her head and looked at the man who was so close to her.

Why did you teach me these things?

"Because you don't know." Shen Huai leaned back in his chair, one arm draped over the edge of the backrest behind her, forming a semi-encircling posture. "You've been sold out and you're still helping them count the money. If I don't teach you, how will you be Boss Su in the future?"

Su Nianhe was somewhat unconvinced by his words, but had nothing to say.

"Setting up a stall at the factory gate like a guerrilla war isn't a good idea," Shen Huai methodically advised her. "You'll be exposed to the wind and sun; you need a fixed stall."

"You have to pay rent for a fixed stall, right?" Su Nianhe immediately thought of money.

"The rent is a minor issue," Shen Huai said. "The most crucial thing is to get a business license from the Industry and Commerce Bureau. Once you're officially registered, the Industry and Commerce Bureau and the Urban Management Bureau won't bother you."

Su Nianhe listened attentively, but quickly grasped the key points.

"Get a license? Is it easy to get one?" She had heard that it was very difficult to get a sole proprietorship license these days, and many people had run themselves ragged trying to get one.

"It's not easy," Shen Huai replied decisively. "So, I'll have to help with this."

Su Nianhe turned to look at him.

Shen Huai didn't back down, and simply looked back at her calmly.

"Su Nianhe, remember this." Shen Huai's voice was low and magnetic in the summer night, "I want you to trust me, and I want you to feel at ease. But relying solely on a man is indeed unreliable. Men can change their minds, and your support can crumble. However, using a man's influence to elevate yourself is a never-ending trade."

Su Nianhe's heart beat a little faster.

When other people are in a relationship, they want to lay their hearts bare and shower their partners with sweet words, vowing to take care of them for the rest of their lives.

Shen Huai, on the other hand, broke down the pros and cons into her mind and stuffed them into her brain, offering his remaining value for her to exploit. He even taught her not to rely entirely on men, but to leverage their influence.

"You..." Su Nianhe couldn't find the right words to describe him.

"What's wrong with me?" Shen Huai turned his head, his nose almost touching her cheek. "I went to so much trouble to get you out of here, rented a house for you, found the goods for you, and even taught you how to scheme. If you're tired and don't want to work anymore, I can support you."

Su Nianhe shrank back, but bumped into his arm that was draped over the back of the chair.

"I don't want you to scheme against others." Shen Huai's fingers slid up her wrist, finally gripping the back of her neck and pulling her forward. "Just stay here with me obediently and be a good Boss Su. Once we get the license, even if you really want to run away, you'll have something to rely on. Understand?"

Su Nianhe was forced to tilt her head back, her breaths mingling.

The clean scent of soap emanating from him enveloped her completely.

"I didn't mean to run away," she said softly.

"I didn't expect it to be the best." Shen Huai's lips touched the corner of her lips, not deeply, just lightly touching hers, as if he were checking the results of his lecture.

Su Nianhe felt her body burning from his kisses.

This person always manages to mix serious matters with unserious ones.

Their breathing grew heavier and heavier. Shen Huai's hand slid from the back of her neck to her lower back and pressed down lightly.

Su Nianhe's body went limp, and her hands instinctively grabbed his white shirt.

"No..." she nudged his shoulder, "The door isn't completely closed yet."

Shen Huai stopped moving, his forehead pressed against hers, his rough fingertips brushing against her chin.

Shen Huai's voice was hoarse. "If someone causes trouble, just mention Li Tiejun's name. He looks like he'll fight, but I usually don't."

Su Nianhe was amused and nodded obediently.
