Su Nianhe lay on the cool mat, her cheeks feeling hot.

She noticed the man's tense state and her gaze moved down along the open collar of his shirt.

She had only looked down half an inch when a large hand covered her eyes completely.

"Don't look around." Shen Huai's voice was hoarse, with obvious restraint.

Su Nianhe's vision went completely black, and her eyelashes brushed against the man's palm.

She didn't react at first, then froze, even her breathing stopped for a beat, and her ears turned bright red.

Shen Huai didn't let go, feeling the trembling of her eyelashes through his palm, his chest vibrating as he let out a low laugh.

"If you really want to see, there will be plenty of opportunities later. If you try to see it now, you'll be the one who suffers."

Su Nianhe pushed his wrist away and stammered back, "I didn't want to look, you just got too close."

Shen Huai straightened up and withdrew his hand.

He turned and walked to the table, picked up the enamel mug, and drank the remaining half-cup of cold water in one gulp to suppress the heat.

He placed the enamel mug back on the table, making a crisp, clinking sound.

"I'd better go to the factory first; there's a technical meeting to attend." Shen Huai picked up his briefcase from the stone table, turned around and instructed, "Don't rush to cook lunch; I'll buy the groceries. You don't have to do anything this morning, so you can wander around and familiarize yourself with the area."

Su Nianhe sat up, straightened the wrinkles in her clothes, and nodded in agreement: "I understand. Ride your bike slowly."

Shen Huai walked into the courtyard, pushed his bicycle, opened the wooden gate, and went out.

The courtyard returned to silence.

Su Nianhe went to the kitchen to fetch water and wash her face, trying to banish the jumbled images from her mind.

She returned to the main room, counted the money she had earned yesterday again, and put it into her inner pocket.

He Jianjun will deliver the new goods tomorrow, so she is indeed free today.

Su Nianhe took the key, pushed open the courtyard gate and went out, intending to take a stroll in the alley.

There weren't many people in the alley; most of them worked in factories.

She walked to the entrance of the alley and saw a bicycle repair stall under a big locust tree.

An elderly man in his fifties was tightening a chain with a wrench.

Su Nianhe walked over and stood to the side.

The old man looked up, sized her up, and said with a smile, "Young lady, you look unfamiliar. Did you just move in?"

Su Nianhe nodded generously: "Hello, sir. I just rented the back yard yesterday."

"Oh, the courtyard with the red-lacquered gate in the back, right?" The old man wiped his hands with the towel around his neck. "My surname is Wang, and I've been setting up my stall here for several years. Yesterday, I saw a tall young man in a white shirt going in and out. Was he a relative of yours?"

"They're dating, and they work at a textile factory." Su Nianhe didn't hide anything. Shen Huai had taught her that sometimes taking advantage of someone's connections can save a lot of trouble.

Upon hearing this, Grandpa Wang gave a thumbs up: "You must be a cadre from the textile factory? That young man looks very energetic. Young lady, if you ever need your bicycle repaired, just bring it over, and I'll give you a discount."

As the two were talking, Zhu Yuanyuan's loud voice came from the other end of the alley.

"Nianhe!"

Zhu Yuanyuan came running over in a hurry, carrying a cloth bag, her forehead covered in sweat.

"Yuanyuan, you didn't go to work today?" Su Nianhe greeted her.

"The machines in the workshop are under maintenance today, so I'm taking a day off." Zhu Yuanyuan pulled her hand and walked to a shady spot. "I was just planning to go find you at your new courtyard. You said yesterday you were going to do some kind of wholesale business, and I spent the whole night thinking about it."

Su Nianhe led her back and into the small courtyard with its red lacquered wooden door.

The two sat down at the stone table in the courtyard.

"The goods will arrive tomorrow morning." Su Nianhe poured Zhu Yuanyuan a glass of water. "I plan to invest all two hundred yuan in the goods. I've decided that I won't retail this batch at the factory gate; I'll wholesale it all to others."

Zhu Yuanyuan drank the water in one gulp, her eyes lighting up.

"That's great! I told a few of the girls in our workshop about your hair accessories business yesterday. They all have younger siblings who are unemployed and are worried about not having any income. They would definitely be happy if they could get their hair accessories from you to sell at their stalls."

Su Nianhe brought out the rules that Shen Huai had taught her last night.

"You can take the goods. The purchase price is three cents per piece, but there's a hard and fast rule." Su Nianhe's tone was steady, revealing a business acumen. "If you take my goods and sell them outside, the minimum price can't be less than forty-five cents. If anyone lowers the price privately to steal business and disrupts the market, I won't give them a single piece of my goods anymore."

Zhu Yuanyuan nodded repeatedly, patting her chest as a guarantee.

"That's the right rule! We can't let anyone ruin the market. Don't worry, I'll keep an eye on everyone I introduce. If anyone dares to lower their prices, I'll be the first to wreck their stall!"

The two got together and finalized the specific details of the distribution.

As noon approached, Zhu Yuanyuan stood up to leave.

"I have to go back for dinner. My mom made sauerkraut and pork dumplings today. Come over and have some."

Su Nianhe shook her head. "I don't need it. You eat more."

Zhu Yuanyuan's stomach was rumbling, but she didn't insist. "When the goods arrive tomorrow, have someone pass on a message to me, and I'll bring people to pick them up."

After seeing Zhu Yuanyuan off, Su Nianhe turned around and went back to the kitchen to rinse the rice and put it in the pot.

Not long after, the courtyard gate was pushed open.

Shen Huai pushed his bicycle in, a net bag hanging on the handlebars.

He parked the car, picked up the net bag, and went into the kitchen.

"What did you buy?" Su Nianhe leaned closer to look.

The net bag contained a lively blackfish, a bunch of fresh water spinach, and two pieces of white tofu.

"Make a fish head tofu soup." Shen Huai placed the net on the stove, unbuttoned his shirt cuffs, and rolled them up twice.

Su Nianhe picked up the kitchen knife and prepared to kill the fish.

Shen Huai reached out and pressed down on the back of her hand, taking the knife away.

"Go wash the vegetables over there, I'll take care of the fish." His tone left no room for negotiation.

Su Nianhe had no choice but to wash the water spinach.

The kitchen space was already small, and when the two of them stood by the sink, their arms inevitably touched.

Shen Huai's technique for killing fish was very efficient. With a tap of the back of the knife, he removed the scales and gutted the fish with fluid and graceful movements.

He turned his head and his gaze fell on Su Nianhe's profile.

"Where did you go this morning?" he asked casually.

"I chatted with Grandpa Wang, who repairs cars, for a bit at the alley entrance." Su Nianhe put the washed vegetables in the basket to drain. "Later, Yuanyuan came, and I told her about the distribution rules. She said she'd bring someone to pick up the goods tomorrow."

Shen Huai washed the prepared fish and cut it into sections.

"You're quick," he commented, washing his hands and flicking the water droplets off, which splashed onto Su Nianhe's cheek.

Su Nianhe was startled by the cold water and turned to glare at him.

Where are you throwing water?

Shen Huai didn't apologize. Instead, he moved closer and his rough fingertips wiped the water off her cheeks.

"It was a slip of the hand." He made up a completely insincere excuse, but his fingers lingered on her cheek for a couple more seconds, pinching the soft flesh.

Su Nianhe slapped his hand away and moved half a step to the side.

"If you're going to cook, then cook properly."

Shen Huai ignored her protests and started heating oil in a wok.

The fish pieces sizzled as they were put into the pot.

He casually flipped the food with a spatula, his long legs encased in trousers standing relaxed.

"When I went into the alley just now, I saw Grandpa Wang who repairs cars." Shen Huai poured the tofu into the pot, added hot water, "He greeted me and said that my girlfriend is handsome and told me to treat you well."

Su Nianhe was chopping scallions when she suddenly stopped, her ears turning red.

"The old man is very kind." She pretended not to understand the teasing in his words.

Shen Huai put down the spatula and walked behind her.

He braced his hands on the stove on either side of her body, trapping her between himself and the cutting board.

"Going around telling everyone I'm your boyfriend." Shen Huai lowered his head, his warm breath brushing against her neck. "Boss Su, is this you preemptively declaring your ownership?"

Su Nianhe was trapped by him and couldn't even turn around.

"You taught me that," she retorted matter-of-factly. "You said leveraging connections would save a lot of trouble. I told you you were my boyfriend, and those idle loafers in the alley wouldn't dare mess with me."

Shen Huai chuckled softly upon hearing these words.

"You're quick to learn." He placed his large hand over hers, which was holding the knife, and guided her hand to cut off the last piece of scallion. "Since you've taken advantage of my influence, how do you plan to thank me?"

Su Nianhe put down the knife and turned to face him. The two were very close.

"The fish for lunch today is on me." She reached out and pushed against his chest.

Shen Huai remained completely still.

"You think you can get rid of me with just a fish?" His gaze lingered on her rosy lips, his voice low. "I've lost out on this deal."

"Then what else do you want?"

"Let's collect some interest first."

Shen Huai lowered his head and pressed his lips to the corner of her lips.

Remembering his promise from last night, he didn't go any further, but just lightly bit her lower lip.

Su Nianhe's body went limp, and her hands instinctively grabbed his shirt.

The kitchen was filled with steam, and the aroma of fish soup wafted through the air.

Shen Huai straightened up, reached out to straighten her disheveled collar, and retreated to the stove.

"Go get the bowl." His tone returned to normal, showing no trace of his earlier lewd behavior.

Su Nianhe blushed and went to the cupboard to get bowls and chopsticks.

This man always manages to mix serious and unserious matters together, and she just can't do anything about it.
