Chapter 79 I Will Love You Like This Too
……
……
Her hair was loose, uncombed, and casually draped over her shoulders.
She walked to the mirror, looked at herself, combed her hair with her fingers, and tucked the stray hairs behind her ears.
"Lin Yu."
"Um."
"Miss Belle...does she like you?"
Lin Yu raised an eyebrow: "Why are you suddenly asking this?"
"Last night at the hot springs, I kept feeling like someone was watching us." Arya turned to look at him, her expression serious.
"And this morning... I think I smelled Miss Belle's scent."
Lin Yu looked at her, but didn't rush to answer.
Arya looked at him, waited a few seconds, and then smiled: "Never mind, I won't ask anymore."
She walked back to the bedside, bent down and kissed Lin Yu on the lips, a fleeting, brief kiss.
"Get up, the sun's already high in the sky."
After saying that, he turned and walked towards the door, but after taking two steps, he turned back.
"Lin Yu."
"Um."
"I don't care what your relationship with her is." Her voice was soft, but each word was enunciated clearly:
"As long as you don't leave me, that's fine."
The door opened, and the morning light streamed in, stretching her shadow long.
She turned her head, her expression obscured by the backlight, but the corners of her mouth were curved in a smile.
"I'll wait for you downstairs."
The door closed, and the footsteps faded into the distance.
Lin Yu lay on the bed for a few seconds, then sat up and started getting dressed.
When the two went downstairs, the hotel owner was sitting behind the counter knitting a sweater.
Seeing them come down, she took off her reading glasses and looked at the two of them with a smile.
"Did you sleep well last night?"
Arya's face flushed red, her fingers gripping the hem of her skirt, unsure how to answer.
"That's fine." Lin Yu said calmly, placing the room key on the counter.
......
The two left the hotel.
The morning sunlight felt warm on my skin, and the air smelled of grass and earth mixed together.
Arya linked arms with Lin Yu, leaning half her body against him, and walked much slower than usual.
"Your legs are weak?" Lin Yu looked down at her.
Arya bit her lip and pinched his arm lightly.
"It's all because of you."
Lin Yu smiled and did not refute.
The big tree at the village entrance is easy to spot; its trunk is so thick that three people can't wrap their arms around it, and its canopy spreads out like a giant umbrella.
The red-roofed house was behind the trees, with its gate open. Several rose bushes were planted in the yard, their flowers in full bloom, red, pink, and yellow, all crowded together.
An elderly woman with gray hair sat in a wicker chair in the courtyard, a thin blanket covering her legs, and a cup of hot tea in her hands.
Hearing footsteps, she looked up.
"You are—"
"Mrs. Anton?" Lin Yu asked.
"It's me." The old lady took off her glasses, squinting as she looked them over. "Did Martha send you?"
"Yes." Arya stepped out from behind Lin Yu and said with a smile:
"Aunt Martha asked us to give you her regards. She said she'll definitely come to see you once her leg is healed."
Mrs. Anton's eyes lit up, the wrinkles at the corners of her mouth gathered together, and she smiled like a child.
"That old man still remembers me." She put the teacup on the low table next to her, and tried to stand up by supporting herself on the armrests of the chair, but her legs were too weak and she couldn't get up after two attempts.
"Don't move." Arya quickly walked over, knelt down in front of her, and gently placed her hand on her knee:
"We'll just sit for a bit and then leave, you don't need to get up."
Mrs. Anton looked at Arya and reached out to touch her hair.
"Good boy, old woman Martha is blessed."
As soon as he finished speaking, there was a commotion inside the house, and an old man came out of the door carrying a plate of cut fruit.
His hair was completely white, and his back was a little hunched, but he was in good spirits and his eyes were bright.
He placed the fruit platter on the low table, glanced at Lin Yu, then at Arya, and turned to Mrs. Anton, saying:
"guest?"
"Martha sent someone." Mrs. Anton took the towel he handed her and wiped her hands.
The old man nodded, then brought out two more chairs from the house and placed them in the shady spot in the yard.
"Sit down, sit down, don't stand."
Lin Yu and Arya sat down. Mrs. Anton studied Arya's face for a long time before nodding.
"She's really good-looking."
Arya blushed.
The old man added from the side, "You were just as handsome when you were young."
Mrs. Anton glared at him: "You old lecher, what are you saying in front of the guests?"
The old man smiled and picked out the largest piece of melon from the fruit plate, offering it to Mrs. Anton's lips.
"Try it, it was just picked this morning, it's sweet."
Mrs. Anton took the melon, took a bite, and juice dripped down her chin.
The old man took out a handkerchief from his pocket and wiped her mouth with a very light and natural motion, as if he had done it countless times before.
Arya's eyes welled up with tears as she watched this scene.
She turned her face away, looking at the few rose bushes in the yard, their petals still glistening with dew in the morning light.
...
After sitting for about 10 minutes, the two got up to say goodbye.
Mrs. Anton held Arya's hand and squeezed it repeatedly.
"Good boy, go back and tell Martha to take good care of her leg. I'm waiting for her to come and talk to me."
"I'll definitely bring it," Arya said.
The old man saw them to the gate of the courtyard and waved goodbye.
......
On the way back, the horse walked very slowly.
Arya rode in front, while Lin Yu held the reins behind, his chin resting on her shoulder.
Neither of them spoke; they just stood close together, listening to the sound of horses' hooves on the dirt road.
After walking for a while, Arya spoke.
"Mrs. Anton and her husband have a really good relationship."
"Um."
"They've been married for decades, yet they still act like newlyweds," Arya said softly.
Lin Yu didn't say anything, but rubbed his chin against her shoulder, while Arya's eyes were already red.
"Lin Yu."
"Um."
"I will love you like that too."
She spoke softly, but enunciated each word clearly.
It didn't sound like sweet talk; it sounded more like making a vow.
Lin Yu didn't rush to answer.
The fields along the roadside have turned into a vast expanse of flower fields, with purple lavender in full bloom, rippling in waves when the wind blows.
The shadow of a horse moved slowly along the path beside the flower field, its shadow stretched long.
Lin Yu pulled on the reins, and the horse stopped.
He dismounted, walked to the roadside, bent down and picked a small purple flower from the edge of the flower field; the petals were still wet with dew.
He walked back and stood in front of Arya.
Arya looked down at him, wondering what he was going to do.
Lin Yu raised her hand and tucked the flower into the hair bun behind her ear.
Purple petals framed her flaxen hair, which shimmered softly in the morning sun.
Lin Yu examined it for a moment and nodded in satisfaction.
"Arya, me too."
After saying that, he mounted the horse, put his arm around her waist again, and spurred the horse's flanks.
The horse started running.
Arya's fingers gripped Lin Yu's arm tightly.
A breeze blew by, blowing stray hairs from her ear onto her face, and the flower swayed gently in her hair.
Her eyes reddened, and tears streamed down her cheeks, scattered by the wind, falling onto the dirt road behind her, onto the horse's back, and onto the back of Lin Yu's hand that was around her waist.
She didn't wipe it.
She cried and laughed, leaning against him.
The horse ran faster and faster, and the wind rushed into their ears.
Arya closed her eyes, her eyelashes fluttering wildly in the wind.
She had only one thought in her mind: she would die for Lin Yu.
As long as he doesn't abandon her, as long as he still loves her, she's willing to do anything.
He can go find other women, he can be with other people.
As long as he doesn't leave, as long as he's still willing to come back to this home, still willing to look at her, still willing to call her "Arya".
She is enough.
Arya buried her face in Lin Yu's chest, her tears rubbing against his chest, soaking a large area of his clothes.
She opened her mouth as if to say something, but her lips moved without uttering a single word.
They just hugged each other tighter.
