The pushover offended a top-tier boss
Chapter 103 What's wrong with the noodles?
The next morning, Ye Zhenzhen first prepared milk powder for Xiao Zhou, then poured some cat food into a bowl. Xiao Zhou ate with loud purring, and Ye Zhenzhen squatted down and kissed it on the forehead: "Mommy's going to work overtime, be good, don't scratch the sofa."
The driver who came this time was the same one who had taken her to Beijing before. He didn't talk much and drove very steadily; he must be someone from Zhou Huaijin's family.
Ye Zhenzhen leaned back in her seat, took out her phone, and started sending voice messages to her mother.
"Mommy, my dear mommy—" her voice was sweet and affectionate, "I want to eat lo mein, I haven't had lo mein in so long."
She rattled off a list of dishes: "I want green beans with pork, braised eggplant, and that meat sauce—yes, the one stir-fried with diced pork belly, plus cucumber strips, bean sprouts, and soybeans, nothing can be missing—"
Zhou Huaijin sat next to her, holding a document in her hand, her eyes fixed on the paper, but all she could hear was her chattering.
"Mommy, you're the best!" Ye Zhenzhen kissed the phone several times, then hung up the phone contentedly.
Zhou Huaijin turned a page of the document without looking at her.
This Ye Zhenzhen is a master at acting cute. She can coax even the most difficult person into submission.
Nan Jing's changes were more noticeable than when she last visited.
The streets have become wider and cleaner. The shops along the street have all been given new off-white signs with dark brown lettering, simple and elegant, making the whole street look neat yet distinctive. Seasonal flowers have been planted in the flower beds along the roadside, creating many new popular photo spots, and attracting more tourists to the street.
Ye Zhenzhen suddenly felt an inexplicable sense of pride, as if "my hometown has finally been seen."
"Boss, County Chief Yang is practically tailor-made for Nan Jing." She turned her head, her tone quite smug.
"I knew he was going to be famous."
Zhou Huaijin didn't respond. But he didn't deny it in his heart.
Promoting Yang Guanyu was definitely the right move. He's young, energetic, and someone who has come from Nanjing; the people trust him. Every word he says and every action he takes carries the strength and warmth of this land.
Moreover, after he became popular online, he directly boosted the cultural and tourism popularity of the entire county. This effect of "one person making a city popular" is something that no amount of money can buy.
Sometimes, you really have to listen to the opinions of young people. For example, Ye Zhenzhen sometimes seems a bit dull and clumsy, but she has some cleverness and always manages to hit the nail on the head.
The car was parked at the entrance of the ecological agricultural area. Yang Guanyu and several cadres from Nanjing were already waiting by the roadside.
Led by Yang Guanyu, several people stood in a row and bowed slightly in unison.
"Welcome, Secretary, to Nanjing for your inspection."
Zhou Huaijin's gaze swept across the faces of the group, and he nodded.
The group first visited the newly built visitor center. The white-walled, gray-tiled building, in a modern Chinese style, blends seamlessly with the surrounding fields. Inside, there's an information desk, a rest area, and an agricultural product display area. A huge tourist map of Namcheong hangs on the wall, marking the locations of various attractions, fruit orchards, and farmhouses.
The tour guide was a young girl with standard Mandarin and a clear voice, but she was so nervous in front of such a high-ranking leader that she stuttered a little and forgot her lines halfway through her speech. Yang Guanyu smiled and chimed in to help her out of the predicament.
The group then went to the greenhouse area.
Yang Guanyu reported on recent data: "Tourist arrivals have increased by 230% year-on-year, homestay booking rate is 85%, online sales of agricultural products..."
"Online popularity is temporary. We need to not only ride this wave but also capitalize on it." Zhou Huaijin's gaze swept from Yang Guanyu to everyone present. "The service experience for tourists, including handling subsequent complaints, ensuring safety, and improving supporting facilities, must all keep up."
"Nanjing's distinctive industries—ecological agriculture, deep processing of agricultural products, and online and offline sales channels—need to form a complete industrial chain. Only in this way can we increase employment opportunities, retain young people, and attract talent from outside to return."
Yang Guanyu listened attentively and nodded repeatedly: "Yes, we are moving in this direction. It is estimated that the total tourism revenue for the whole year will increase by at least 30 percentage points year-on-year."
Zhou Huaijin hummed in response, his tone becoming more casual.
"You guys go ahead with your work. I'm just wandering around, no need to follow me."
Several officials stopped in their tracks.
Ye Zhenzhen had been here before; she had just filmed a video here last week. She knew exactly which greenhouse had the sweetest strawberries and which spot was the best for taking photos.
"Boss, let me show you around. I know this place best." She was already walking ahead, her steps as light as a frolicking deer.
Zhou Huaijin followed behind her, at a leisurely pace.
She led him through several rows of tomato trellises and then turned into a melon shed.
Ye Zhenzhen squatted down, gently touched one of them with her finger, brought it close to smell it, and her eyes lit up.
"This variety of melon is so delicious, fragrant and sweet, absolutely delicious." She stood up, glanced around the greenhouse, saw one that was already turning yellow, picked it, and held it up in her hand. "This one is ripe."
She ran to the tap, rinsed it clean, broke it in half, and handed him one half.
"Boss, try this! It's pesticide-free!"
Zhou Huaigang took the half-melon, bent down and took a bite. The flesh was crisp and tender, juicy, and just the right amount of sweetness—not cloying.
He nodded, which was a sign of approval.
Just as Ye Zhenzhen was about to say something, her eyes suddenly lit up, and she pointed to a spot not far away and exclaimed, "Wow, there are bees over there!"
Startled, she stepped back, tripped over a clod of earth on the ridge, and fell backward.
He plopped down on the ground.
"Ouch—"
Ye Zhenzhen sat on the ground, her pants covered in dirt, her palms muddy, and half a melon rolled away.
She looked up and saw Zhou Huaijin standing there, his lips slightly curved, a small curve, but definitely a smile.
"You're still laughing!" she glared at him angrily.
Zhou Huaijin bent down and extended his hand. Ye Zhenzhen huffed and placed her hand in his palm. He grasped it and gently lifted her up from the ground.
Yang Guanyu walked in at some point. He stood at the entrance of the greenhouse, his gaze fixed in that direction, pausing for a moment.
He then looked away.
After waiting for a while, we went inside.
"Secretary, the canteen has prepared a simple meal, please take a look—" His voice was calm and polite.
Ye Zhenzhen was brushing the dirt off her pants, but after a couple of pats, she still wasn't clean. She looked up and smiled at Yang Guanyu, "Senior, I won't go. I'm going home to eat. My mom is making lo mein today."
Yang Guanyu smiled and nodded, "Okay, then, Secretary—"
Zhou Huaijin said, "No need. You're busy."
Ye Zhenzhen stood there and glanced at Zhou Huaijin. She hesitated for a moment, then tentatively asked, "Boss, would you like to come to my house for dinner?"
Zhou Huaijin glanced at her.
"want."
Ye Zhenzhen: "..."
She paused for a moment, then chuckled dryly twice, and turned to Yang Guanyu, asking, "Senior, do you want to come along?"
Yang Guanyu smiled and said, "Then I'll trouble you."
"No trouble at all, no trouble at all, it's just a matter of having an extra pair of chopsticks." Ye Zhenzhen laughed heartlessly.
Zhou Huaijin, standing beside him, had a completely different expression.
Ye Zhenzhen had told her parents that she would go home for lunch by herself.
But to her surprise, her daughter returned two men.
The presence of County Chief Yang and Secretary Zhou left the elderly couple utterly astonished.
"Oh, welcome, Secretary Zhou and County Head Yang, to my humble abode."
He turned and glared at Ye Zhenzhen, lowering his voice, "You child! Why didn't you tell me beforehand that two high-ranking leaders were coming! And you just served them noodles?"
Ye Zhenzhen retorted confidently, "What's wrong with noodles? They're delicious!"
