The pushover offended a top-tier boss
Chapter 33 You've had too much to drink.
The car drove out of the clubhouse and onto Chang'an Avenue.
The night was thick.
The car was quiet. The driver held the steering wheel firmly with both hands, his eyes fixed straight ahead.
"Sir, shall we return to the old house or the Platinum Hotel?"
"Go back to my place."
"OK."
The enclosed space was filled with a faint smell of alcohol.
Ye Zhenzhen rarely drinks alcohol. Although the two glasses of fruit wine she drank today had a low alcohol content, they were still a bit too strong for someone like her who gets drunk after just one glass.
Her face was still red, and her head was a little dizzy.
Zhou Huaijin, on the other hand, had been given quite a bit of alcohol today. Although he didn't seem to be acting strangely, Ye Zhenzhen noticed that he rubbed his temples and his brows furrowed slightly.
"Boss, are you feeling unwell?" she asked softly.
Zhou Huaijin leaned back in his chair, closed his eyes, and said in a lower voice than usual, "These bastards, they keep pouring me drinks as soon as they catch me back."
His voice carried a hint of helplessness, and a hint of... Ye Zhenzhen couldn't quite put her finger on it, but it was definitely different from his usual aloof tone.
Are they all your friends?
"Yes, we grew up together."
The car turned into an extremely luxurious residential area.
The driver got out of the car and opened the door for Zhou Huaijin.
Ye Zhenzhen followed him into the lobby.
The lobby was spacious with a high ceiling and a huge crystal chandelier. A staff member in uniform was sitting at the front desk. When Zhou Huaijin came in, he stood up and nodded slightly.
Welcome home.
Ye Zhenzhen asked curiously, "Boss, where is this?"
"My home," Zhou Huaijin replied.
Zhou Huaijin took out a black card from his pocket, touched it to the sensor, and pressed the top button.
The elevator doors opened again, revealing a huge, single-level apartment.
The view was unbelievably expansive. One entire wall of the living room was made up of floor-to-ceiling windows, offering a panoramic view of Beijing's nightscape—a sea of lights and a constant flow of traffic. Buildings she usually only saw in landmark photos were now right beneath her feet.
The house is decorated in a minimalist style, with gray and white tones and clean, crisp lines.
The house was very clean. It was obvious that someone cleaned it regularly; everything was spotless.
Zhou Huaijin took off his coat and casually draped it over the sofa. Today he was wearing a dark gray shirt, with two buttons undone at the collar, revealing a section of his well-defined collarbone. The sleeves were rolled up to his forearms.
He rubbed his temples, his brow furrowing slightly.
Ye Zhenzhen stood in the entryway, somewhat at a loss.
"Boss, do you have any honey at home?" she asked tentatively. "I'll make you a cup of honey water; it'll help with your hangover."
"Take a look at the refrigerator." He sat down on the sofa, leaned back, and closed his eyes.
Ye Zhenzhen walked into the kitchen.
The refrigerator was built-in and integrated with the cabinet; it took her a while to find the door handle.
I opened the refrigerator door; it was almost empty. There were a few bottles of mineral water, a few cartons of milk, a small bag of goji berries, and a bottle of honey.
She filled a glass with warm water from the water dispenser, took out some honey from the refrigerator, scooped out a spoonful, and stirred it.
She carried the cup back to the living room.
Zhou Huaijin was still leaning back on the sofa with his eyes closed. One button on his shirt collar was undone, revealing a section of his neck and the curve of his collarbone.
Ye Zhenzhen handed him the honey water. He opened his eyes, took it, and drank a few mouthfuls.
The honey water slid down his throat, his Adam's apple bobbed up and down, he put down the cup and rubbed his temples.
"Do you have a headache?" Ye Zhenzhen asked cautiously from the side.
"Mmm." He kept his eyes closed, his voice a little hoarse. "Give me a massage."
Ye Zhenzhen hesitated for a moment.
She stood beside the sofa, looking at his somewhat tired face under the light, her heart pounding a little.
She walked over, went around behind the sofa, and gently pressed her fingers against his temples.
His skin was warm, and she gently, slowly, pressed it in circles.
The living room was quiet. The night view of Beijing outside the floor-to-ceiling windows looked like a giant painting.
Zhou Huaijin closed his eyes, his breathing gradually becoming more even. The smell of alcohol emanated from him, mingling with his woody scent, filling the quiet living room.
Ye Zhenzhen pressed for a while.
"Are you feeling any better?" she asked softly.
He gave a soft "hmm".
I seem to be in a good mood.
Ye Zhenzhen then brought up the matter she cared about most:
"Um, boss," she mustered her courage, "could I pay you back the 200,000 I lost today... a little later?"
After she finished speaking, she waited a few seconds but received no response.
She waited a few more seconds, but there was still no response.
Just as she was about to repeat herself, she suddenly heard a very soft laugh.
"Ye Zhenzhen." He called her name, as if it rolled out from his chest.
"Um?"
"What will you use to repay me?"
Ye Zhenzhen was stunned for a moment.
She thought for a moment, her confidence waning: "I... I can sell the bag your sister gave me... it should fetch a good amount of money..."
Another soft laugh.
This time the smile was more pronounced than before.
His skin was burning beneath her fingers. Her hands were also hot.
She sensed that something was wrong.
From the moment they started eating and playing cards, the relationship between them began to change.
She suddenly felt a sense of panic.
Her fingers trembled slightly.
Before she could react, her wrist was suddenly grabbed.
The next second, a strong force pulled her from behind the sofa.
She lost her balance, leaned forward, staggered a couple of steps, and fell onto the sofa.
Her back sank into the soft cushions of the sofa, and before she could react, a warm, heavy body pressed down on her.
Zhou Huaijin pulled her completely beneath him. His breath brushed against her face, carrying the sweetness of honey and the richness of alcohol.
"Ye Zhenzhen." He lowered his head, his gaze falling on her face. "Don't you know what I want?"
Ye Zhenzhen's mind went blank.
She looked at him, his face so close, and into his eyes a burning, undisguised longing she had never seen before.
She wasn't unaware of it.
She just never dared to think in that direction.
"I...we can't do this..." Her voice trembled, her lips trembled, and her whole body trembled.
She placed her hands on his chest, trying to push him away.
Looking at her flustered face and her hands that instinctively pushed him away, something darkened in Zhou Huaijin's eyes.
That day in the hallway, her blushing, shyly smiling face as she kissed someone else, somehow came to mind.
A feeling that he couldn't quite describe—whether it was sour or angry—silently washed over his chest.
He gripped her neck.
He lowered his head and covered her. With an undeniable force.
Ye Zhenzhen was completely stunned, passively enduring the kiss and his overwhelming, intense scent that almost drowned her.
She felt as if she were being swept up in a silent tide. Her consciousness was tossed about on the crest of the wave, her reason being washed away wave after wave into tiny bubbles. She didn't know when her fingers had gripped the hem of his shirt, nor when her consciousness began to fade.
She was so overwhelmed by the kisses that she felt dizzy and disoriented.
But soon, reason prevailed, like a bucket of cold water being poured over him.
"Boss, we can't do this—" She turned her head away, avoiding his lips.
"What can't be done?"
He chuckled softly, his hand moving up her waistline, his fingertips burning hot.
"so?"
She felt a sense of relief on her back.
"Still like this?"
She wasn't an innocent young girl; she knew what was going to happen next.
"Please let me go... No, you can't..." she cried out in terror.
"Last time at the hospital," he whispered with a chuckle, his lips close to her ear, "you kissed me first."
Ye Zhenzhen froze.
"That night, you said you were hot and unbuttoned your shirt." She felt the heat slowly moving around. "That day, you weren't wearing anything underneath."
"Ye Zhenzhen, is playing hard to get fun?"
"I didn't..." Ye Zhenzhen burst into tears.
It turns out that it wasn't a dream at all.
How could she do those things to him?
Now, he...
She knew she had drunk alcohol, but those two glasses of fruit wine weren't enough to make her drunk. She was fully conscious, so conscious that she could feel the warmth of his lips and the breath emanating from him that made her heart race and almost suffocate.
This person both frightened him and made his heart race.
How could she do this?
She has a boyfriend. She and Meng Chen have been together for five years. They are about to get married.
How could she have an affair with her boss?
She couldn't break free.
He was so strong that he held both of her wrists with one hand and pressed them above her head, making it impossible for her to move.
She closed her eyes and bit down hard.
Zhou Huaijin winced in pain, let out a muffled groan, and slightly raised his head.
Taking advantage of the opportunity, Ye Zhenzhen hurriedly scrambled up from the sofa.
Her hair was disheveled, her lips were swollen, her eyes were red, and her face was covered in tear stains. Her neckline was askew, revealing half of her shoulder, and her bra buttons were not fastened. She frantically tried to adjust her neckline, her fingers trembling so much that she couldn't even button it up.
Zhou Huaijin leaned back on the sofa, looking at her.
His lower lip was bitten by her, and a trace of bright red blood seeped out.
Ye Zhenzhen dared not look him in the eye.
"Boss, you're drunk. Please get some rest."
"I'm going back to the hotel where the meeting was held."
She fled in panic.
The elevator went down. She leaned against the elevator wall, panting heavily, as if a fire was burning in her chest.
She hurriedly and clumsily re-buttoned the buttons, her fingers trembling so badly that she had to try several times before she could finally get them on.
The night wind in Beijing was biting cold in the dead of winter. She stood by the roadside and hailed a taxi.
Back at the hotel, she rushed into the bathroom and turned the water on full blast.
She stood underwater, washing herself.
When I raised my hand, I saw a ring of red marks around my wrist that hadn't faded yet.
My lips still feel slightly swollen and painful.
When touching below the lower abdomen.
Her hand froze.
It wasn't menstrual blood; it was something else entirely.
Why did I react to that kiss?
She was clearly afraid of him. So many things separated them—status, position, family background, age, and her boyfriend of five years. How could she possibly have a reaction to him?
Am I really an unfaithful and promiscuous woman?
not like this.
Lying in bed with her eyes closed, all she could think about was that image—him on top of her, his hands roaming over her waist, his lips pressed against her earlobe.
"Ye Zhenzhen, don't you know what I want?"
She should have known.
