The pushover offended a top-tier boss

Chapter 52 I am not worthy

She reopened the report and began to revise it carefully.

At noon, Chen Zheng called her to go eat.

"You go first, I'll be done in two minutes."

After making the changes, I turned off the computer, stood up, and walked to the lounge.

As I walked to the door, I ran into Chen Xuefei coming out of the secretary's office.

Chen Xuefei was holding an empty tea canister. She saw Ye Zhenzhen and smiled slightly.

"Xiao Ye, the leader is about to have lunch. You can ask him for instructions this afternoon if you have anything to say." She said in a gentle tone.

"I'll come... for dinner," Ye Zhenzhen replied.

Chen Xuefei's smile remained unchanged, but she didn't move aside, blocking the middle of the corridor.

"Xiao Ye," she chuckled softly, "you know that our department's employees are supposed to eat in the staff cafeteria. And since you're on secondment, there are some rules you still need to follow."

She paused, her tone softening, but a chill lingered beneath the gentleness: "The boss might politely invite you to join, but you need to be mindful of your boundaries. You should know Secretary Lin's rank, and you probably understand Chen Zheng's relationship with the boss. It's appropriate for them to stay on the eighth floor and dine with the boss. But the others…"

She didn't finish her sentence, but her meaning was already clear.

You're not qualified. Don't be so shameless as to try and get close.

Ye Zhenzhen stood there, her fingers clutching the hem of her clothes, looking somewhat embarrassed.

"Okay, then I'll go to the cafeteria," she replied.

Chen Xuefei added, "Xiao Ye, Secretary Lin is on vacation. She might not be at the office every day unless it's urgent. You, on the eighth floor, need to keep an eye on things. I see the boss's tea is almost gone, so remember to make him tea or coffee every afternoon. Also, keep his desk clean. The boss is very busy every day, so you need to pay attention to these little things."

"Okay, Director Chen." Ye Zhenzhen nodded.

In a way, Chen Xuefei was her direct supervisor.

She dared not talk back.

Meanwhile, in the lounge.

Zhou Huaijin sat at the dining table and glanced at his watch.

"Where is Ye Zhenzhen?"

Chen Zheng said, "She said she'd be here in two or three minutes. Let me ask."

He took out his phone and sent a voice call to Ye Zhenzhen: "Sister Ye, why aren't you here yet?"

Ye Zhenzhen was in line at the cafeteria and replied, "I'm in the staff cafeteria."

Chen Zheng was taken aback: "Why aren't you eating with us?"

Ye Zhenzhen forced out three words:

"I! Am! Not! Worthy!"

Chen Zheng looked completely bewildered.

"Why is she angry again?"

Zhou Huaijin's face also darkened.

Chen Zheng quickly distanced himself: "Brother, I didn't provoke her, it must be you. I was just speaking up for you."

Zhou Huaijin took the phone with a sullen face.

"Ye Zhenzhen, come and eat."

Ye Zhenzhen, still fuming, said, "I'm not worthy to dine at the same table as the leaders."

Zhou Huaijin frowned, a hint of helpless frustration in his expression.

"Alright, stop fooling around."

He gets angry after just a few words; his temper is getting worse and worse.

Seeing his older brother's face growing increasingly dark, Chen Zheng quickly stepped in to smooth things over:

"If you don't deserve it, who does? We have spicy blood curd, boiled fish, and spicy duck heads today."

Ye Zhenzhen heard this; they were all foods she loved to eat.

She reluctantly turned back.

She told herself that she was judging people, not food; the food was innocent.

You shouldn't ignore delicious food just because you're angry with someone.

Zhou Huaijin watched her quietly bury herself in her food, eating with relish.

They didn't say anything more.

After finishing her meal, Ye Zhenzhen went out, and Chen Xuefei was walking towards her from the direction of the secretariat.

His gaze fell on Ye Zhenzhen and lingered for a moment.

Ye Zhenzhen felt guilty, as if she had been caught red-handed.

"Director Chen, it was...it was Chen Zheng who invited me to dinner."

"I had already gone to the staff cafeteria."

Chen Xuefei glanced at her, her gaze sweeping across her face, and then smiled.

"It's okay, you two are good friends, having a meal together is nothing." She said gently, "I was just saying it casually, don't take it to heart."

After saying that, he turned and went to Zhou Huaijin's office.

Chen Xuefei walked at a leisurely pace, but her mind was racing with thoughts.

Ye Zhenzhen and Chen Zheng? They seem to have a close relationship. Ye Zhenzhen is quite shrewd; she knows who has connections and gravitates towards them. Or was her temporary transfer to the district committee a favor arranged by Chen Zheng?

When she knocked on the secretary's office door, she was carrying several boxes of tea.

"Boss, this is some tea I just got from the union. There's Dianhong (Yunnan black tea), Tieguanyin (iron guanyin), and jasmine tea. The quality looks pretty good." She placed the tea on the shelf. "You've finished your tea. Shall I brew you a fresh cup?"

"No need," Zhou Huaijin replied, looking up.

Chen Xuefei didn't mind and continued her report: "The Culture and Tourism Bureau will be giving a report this afternoon, scheduled for 2 PM."

"it is good."

Chen Xuefei stood there, not leaving immediately. She hesitated for a moment, then said, "Boss, Xiao Ye's workstation on the seventh floor has been empty. She's been on the eighth floor for a while now, and she should have learned enough. Should we transfer her back to the seventh floor after the New Year? Or, I can transfer a more experienced employee up here, so you won't be too busy."

Zhou Huaijin paused for a moment.

He looked up and glanced at Chen Xuefei.

"She still has a lot to learn. Lin Rui will be back after the New Year, so there's no need to trouble her."

"Okay." Chen Xuefei nodded, her smile unchanged, and turned to leave the office.

The smile on his face faded the moment the door closed behind him.

As she walked down the corridor, she caught a glimpse of movement not far away. Chen Zheng and Ye Zhenzhen were leaning against the window sill, their heads close together, holding their phones.

"Hey, hey, don't exaggerate!"

"I did that to save you!"

"You only unleash your ultimate after I've already flown out of the air, you idiot! Someone just uses a basic attack and you unleash your ultimate, where's your brain?!"

"You're the pig! Your movement is like you're drunk!"

The two of them were arguing back and forth, their fingers never stopping, while game sound effects blared from their phones, creating a noisy atmosphere.

Chen Xuefei sneered inwardly. This Ye Zhenzhen may look dull, but she's more cunning than anyone else.

Now even the leaders are protecting her.

-

In the afternoon, after revising her document, Ye Zhenzhen glanced at Zhou Huaijin's office.

Someone came to report on their work, but he's not available right now.

Perfect timing! I'll have a milk tea to cheer myself up.

"Xiao Chen, I'm treating you to milk tea today," she said to Chen Zheng.

Chen Zheng's eyes lit up immediately, and he instantly changed his tune: "Sister-in-law, you're so generous!"

"Get lost, buy it yourself." Ye Zhenzhen's expression changed in an instant.

"Sister Ye, Sister Ye, my forever sister—" Chen Zheng quickly corrected himself.

Chen Zheng chose a strawberry cheesecake. Ye Zhenzhen continued to drink her brown sugar boba milk.

Just as she was about to place the order, she suddenly remembered Chen Xuefei's words—"Remember to make tea for the boss every afternoon."

Milk tea is still tea, after all.

She added a taro boba drink to her shopping cart, with 30% sugar. She met the minimum spend requirement for a discount and could save a few dollars.

She was indebted to him, so she decided to shut him up first to prevent him from finding fault again, since she was about to submit the revised report.

Around 3 p.m., the director of the Culture and Tourism Bureau came out of his office.

Seeing an opportunity, Ye Zhenzhen took the cup of milk tea, tiptoed to the office door, and knocked.

"Enter."

She pushed open the door and went in, a smile plastered on her face.

"Boss, this is the revised report." She handed over the printed document.

Zhou Huaijin took it and glanced at it.

"Boss, this is milk tea I specially ordered for you."

She placed the cup of milk tea next to him and even thoughtfully inserted a straw into it.

"Taro boba is delicious."

Ye Zhenzhen picked up the cup and handed it to him.

He seemed to have no choice but to accept the offer.

Zhou Huaijin had no choice but to take it and hesitantly took a bite.

Ye Zhenzhen found this scene somewhat amusing.

It's such a cute contrast that someone so serious is sipping milk tea like that; I really want to take a picture.

Zhou Huaijin took a bite and put it down, his brows furrowing slightly.

"sweet."

"Mmm, milk tea is supposed to be sweet," Ye Zhenzhen nodded. "Next time I'll order you the one without sugar."

Their attitude was incredibly good.

Zhou Huaijin glanced at her, said nothing, lowered his head, and looked back at the report.

It's a significant improvement over before; at least you can tell it's been a sincere effort to change.

There's one sentence that's actually a bit redundant, but it's not a big problem.

He was about to speak when he glanced at the person beside him.

He had an attitude of "I'm very well-behaved, please don't scold me".

If I say a few more words, she'll start giving me the cold shoulder again.

bother.

I don't know how to comfort children.

He hummed in agreement, his voice flat: "This time it's fine."
