The pushover offended a top-tier boss
Chapter 71 Incense
Chen Yu didn't say anything, turned around and left.
Not long after, Chen Yu brought the person back.
Lin Zhi followed behind him, with a distance of two meters between them.
Lin Zhi's expression was off; her eyelids were a little swollen, her hair was casually tied in a ponytail, and a few stray strands clung to her cheeks. Chen Yu walked ahead, as if suppressing some emotion.
The two deliberately avoided each other's gaze.
Ye Zhenzhen leaned closer and whispered, "Zhizhi, did you and President Chen have a fight?"
Lin Zhi paused for two seconds, then nodded: "Yes..."
No wonder.
Speaking from experience, Ye Zhenzhen earnestly advised, "Hey, don't confront your boss head-on. You'll only end up hurting yourself."
She knew her best friend's temperament all too well. Lin Zhi was the kind of person who couldn't tolerate any injustice; she said what she meant and would never compromise herself. Unlike herself, who was flexible, knowing when to back down and when to play the innocent.
"And you, just like me," Ye Zhenzhen leaned closer, her voice extremely low, "pretend to be well-behaved on the surface, but curse him fiercely behind his back. Who can blame you when he's your sugar daddy?"
After saying that, she glanced back guiltily.
Fortunately, the two people sitting opposite were looking at their phones and drinking tea, and neither of them were looking this way.
She breathed a sigh of relief.
The two had planned to go hiking and elephant riding in the rainforest today.
Now, with my small frame, hiking is definitely out of the question.
Don't ride the elephant anymore. It already happened last night...
Ye Zhenzhen cursed silently in her heart.
"Let's go play by the river." She flipped through the travel guide on her phone. "There are boats there that can take you on a cruise on the Lancang River. The border is on the other side, and you can buy lots of specialties from neighboring countries."
This time she learned her lesson.
She ran up to Zhou Huaijin first, her eyes crinkling with a smile, her voice so sweet it could melt your heart: "Boss, let's go on a boat together."
Zhou Huaijin glanced at her, about to say something, when his phone rang.
He glanced down at the screen, his brow furrowing slightly.
"You go first." He stood up, walked to the side to answer the phone, his voice low and brief, "Um... what is it?"
Ye Zhenzhen was secretly delighted, but dared not show it on her face. She nodded obediently and said, "Okay, boss. You're busy. I'll be back soon."
Lin Zhi glanced at her boss and saw that he was looking down at his phone, so she quickly grabbed Ye Zhenzhen's arm.
"Hurry up, hurry up!"
The two of them linked arms and quickly slipped away.
The wind was strong by the river.
They were on a small cruise boat, and the river breeze carried the moist scent of the tropical rainforest. On both banks were rolling green hills covered with tall trees typical of tropical rainforests, their layers of green swaying gently in the river breeze.
The two took many more photos.
"This one looks good!"
"show me."
"Revise it and then repost."
"This photo doesn't need editing; it's straight out of the camera."
"Wouldn't it be wonderful if we could do this every day?"
"Keep dreaming, I have to go back to work tomorrow."
The two looked at each other and sighed simultaneously.
The ship has docked.
The boatman called out in heavily accented Mandarin, "We've arrived."
Ye Zhenzhen and Lin Zhi jumped off the boat, stepped onto the soft sand, and took a few steps forward.
There was a small market on the shore, with several simple sheds set up and various stalls under the sheds.
The tour guide was a young girl dressed in ethnic clothing.
"This is our border; across from us are Myanmar and Laos. Downstream from here is the Mekong River."
Ye Zhenzhen and Lin Zhi exchanged a glance, their eyes filled with curiosity and excitement.
The market was filled with stalls run by people from neighboring countries, selling all sorts of unique handicrafts. There were jade from Myanmar, rosewood from Laos, and incense, among others. The stall owners, dressed in colorful traditional clothing, greeted passing tourists in broken Chinese.
Ye Zhenzhen and Lin Zhi stopped curiously in front of a stall.
The stalls displayed various incense sticks, some in bamboo tubes and others in cloth bags, filling the air with a rich, sweet fragrance.
"This is incense from Myanmar; it's very effective at calming the nerves and helping you sleep." The stall owner was a middle-aged woman with dark skin, large eyes, and a friendly smile.
Ye Zhenzhen picked up a small piece and smelled it: "It smells really good."
The scent is a faint sandalwood fragrance mixed with a hint of floral notes, and a touch of sweetness, like honey.
"Zhizhi, do you want to buy some too?" she asked Lin Zhi, turning to him.
Lin Zhiye took a piece and smelled it deeply: "Hmm, it smells pretty good."
She caught a cold last night and has a stuffy nose.
The two of them each picked out a few pieces, which the stall owner wrapped in paper and handed over.
Ye Zhenzhen paid the money, stuffed the cloth bag into her purse, and turned to walk a few steps when suddenly everything went black.
She paused for a moment and grabbed a pillar next to her for support.
"What's wrong?" Lin Zhi noticed that her expression was off.
"It's nothing...it's just a bit sunny..." Ye Zhenzhen shook her head, trying to clear her mind. But the dizziness grew stronger, and the world in front of her began to blur, as if through a layer of mist.
"There's a place to rest here. You two ladies have heatstroke, come and rest here for a bit." A man standing up from behind a nearby stall greeted them with a smile.
In a daze, Ye Zhenzhen saw that the man had an eagle tattoo on his arm, which extended from the cuff to the wrist.
She wanted to say "No need," and tried to pull Lin Zhi away quickly.
But she found that her legs wouldn't obey her commands.
It felt like something had drained all my strength, and I couldn't even stand up straight.
No... I can't fall down...
But she still couldn't stop herself from falling.
Lin Zhi was slightly better than her, but not by much. Her nose was congested, making it difficult to breathe, and although she inhaled a slightly lower concentration of medication than Ye Zhenzhen, the dizziness still surged up like a tide.
"Zhenzhen..." She reached out to help, but her own hands were trembling.
In the last second before they lost consciousness, the two saw the man give a strange, satisfied smile.
Lin Zhi was jolted awake.
Beneath her was the hard, unyielding carriage. The wheels rolled over the potholes, and with each bump, her head slammed against the metal, causing her to gasp in pain.
She struggled to open her eyes, only to find everything dark.
The carriage was surrounded by sheet metal, with only a few rays of light filtering through the gaps in the roof. Ye Zhenzhen was still fast asleep beside him.
"Zhenzhen... wake up... Zhenzhen..."
