Sent to the countryside, I turned the health center into a top-tier hospital.
Chapter 136 Losing Money
The pharmaceutical company representatives arrived faster than expected.
Chen Ping had just returned to his ward from the stairwell and hadn't even sat down properly when he heard a series of hurried footsteps in the corridor. The sound of leather shoes clattering on the floor tiles wasn't just one person, but several.
Cui Ying's father was leaning against the headboard, looking at the news on his phone. Hearing the noise, he looked up and glanced at Chen Ping.
Chen Ping walked to the door and glanced outside.
There were three people. The one walking in front was a man in his early thirties, wearing a dark gray suit, with his hair slicked back and shiny. He was carrying a briefcase and walking quickly and hurriedly, as if he were rushing to catch a plane.
He was followed by a man and a woman. The man was wearing a white shirt and holding a tablet computer, while the woman was wearing a suit and carrying a stack of documents.
The three of them went straight to the ward.
Chen Ping didn't follow, but the corridor wasn't soundproof, and the door over there wasn't closed, so the sound came through clearly.
First came the man's voice, not loud, but every word was filled with fire, as if he was angrily suppressing his voice.
"Who told you to remove the monitoring equipment? Who gave you permission? This is critical data from the clinical trial. Who will be responsible if something goes wrong?" the man roared.
The woman's voice was soft and hoarse; she was crying, her words broken and indistinct.
The child was also crying, the cries were high-pitched and thin, like needles pricking your ears.
Then the man's voice grew louder, to the point that he no longer tried to suppress it.
"It's clearly stated in the agreement that if you withdraw midway, you'll have to pay compensation. All expenses, including examination fees, medication costs, monitoring fees, and our labor costs, will add up to 200,000 yuan." The man's voice was threatening.
Upon hearing the amount of 200,000, the woman paused for a moment before bursting into even louder sobs, repeatedly saying, "I have no money, I really have no money," while the child's cries grew louder.
"You have no money, yet you dare to touch our equipment?" The man glared, his face menacing.
"No...it wasn't me..." The woman was frightened and quickly shook her head.
"Not you? Then who did it? Was it a doctor at the hospital?"
The man asked.
The woman just cried and said nothing.
"If you don't tell me, then you're the one who did it, and you have to pay compensation, or you'll go to jail," the man threatened.
Upon hearing the word "jail," the woman's face clearly showed panic.
"It's...it's Chen Ping, Dr. Chen!" The woman could only say Chen Ping's name.
The corridor was already crowded with people.
Chen Ping also leaned against the door frame of the ward, without moving.
He heard the woman and the man's conversation clearly.
At this moment, the man carrying the briefcase came out of the ward. He looked unwell. He stood in the middle of the corridor, took out his phone, made a call, said a few words, and hung up.
As soon as he turned around, he saw Director Qian coming out of the doctor's office. His expression immediately changed from anger to a serious, businesslike demeanor.
"Director Qian, who is this Chen Ping? Is he a doctor at your hospital?" the man questioned.
Director Qian paused for a moment, standing in the middle of the corridor with his hands in the pockets of his white coat.
"He's not from our hospital. He's a doctor from Siping Township Health Center. He's here accompanying a patient in the hospital; he's a family member of the patient," Director Qian said.
"Which ward?" the man asked.
Director Qian didn't say anything, but simply raised his head and gestured with his eyes.
The man carrying the briefcase glanced at Director Qian, then turned and walked towards Cui Ying's father's ward.
He stood at the door, glanced at Cui Ying's father, then at Chen Ping, his gaze shifting between the two before finally settling on Chen Ping.
"Are you Chen Ping?" the man asked.
Chen Ping nodded without saying anything.
The man walked in, tucked his briefcase under his arm, took a business card from his jacket pocket, and handed it over.
"I'm in charge of this clinical trial, and my surname is Liu. You removed the monitoring equipment without authorization, interfering with the trial data and causing us significant losses."
According to the agreement, the family is required to provide compensation, but as the person directly responsible, we reserve the right to pursue your personal liability.
Chen Ping neither took the business card nor looked at it. "How much?"
The man was taken aback, probably not expecting Chen Ping to be so direct.
He put the business card back in his pocket, held out one hand with his five fingers spread, and said, "Five hundred thousand."
Cui Ying's father's phone slipped from his hand and fell onto the blanket, but he didn't pick it up.
His face darkened. He threw off the blanket, sat up straight, and stared at the man surnamed Liu.
"Five hundred thousand? Are you robbing me?" Cui Ying's father said coldly.
The man surnamed Liu turned his head, looked at Cui Ying's father, and had a professional smile on his lips, neither deep nor shallow, neither cold nor warm.
"Sir, we have signed a formal agreement with the patient's family, and the terms are very clear."
Clinical trial data cannot be bought with money; a gap in data from a single patient can render the entire trial invalid.
The 500,000 is just our direct loss; if we include potential business losses, the amount is far more than that.
Cui Ying's father blushed.
He reached for his phone on the bedside table, quickly grabbed it, and started scrolling through his contacts.
"Okay, five hundred thousand, right? I'll have my secretary bring it over, cash or bank transfer? You wait..."
For Cui Ying's father, 500,000 yuan is really nothing.
He can transfer money anytime he needs; he has more than 500,000 yuan in pocket money on his phone.
"uncle."
Chen Ping spoke, his voice not loud, but Cui Ying's father stopped.
Chen Ping looked at him and shook his head. "This has nothing to do with you. I'll handle it myself."
He took the phone from Cui Ying's father, placed it on the bedside table, turned around, looked at the man surnamed Liu, pointed to the door, and said, "Let's talk outside."
The man surnamed Liu glanced at him but didn't move.
Chen Ping didn't wait for him; he walked out of the ward and stood in the corridor.
The man surnamed Liu hesitated for a second, then followed.
There were more people in the corridor; some were looking at their phones, and others were whispering among themselves.
Chen Ping ignored them, leaned against the wall, crossed his arms, and looked at the man surnamed Liu.
"How many stages has your drug reached overseas?" Chen Ping asked.
The man surnamed Liu paused, his expression changing to one of surprise. "Why are you asking this?"
Chen Ping didn't answer, but asked again, "Has the Phase I clinical trial been completed?"
The man surnamed Liu looked at Chen Ping with a wary gaze.
"Whether my Phase I clinical trial is successful or not is none of your business. You dismantled our equipment without authorization and destroyed our clinical data, so you have to compensate us for the losses."
"If you don't pay me back, I'll sue you in court, and you can expect to go to jail."
The man surnamed Liu glared at Chen Ping and threatened him.
Chen Ping, however, raised the corners of his mouth, revealing a contemptuous smile.
The woman who had been secretly listening to the conversation in the ward panicked when she heard that the other party was going to sue Chen Ping and send him to jail.
She immediately ran out of the ward and knelt down in front of the man surnamed Liu with a thud.
