Chen Ping made the call.

The caller ID chimed in and out, and his heart pounded faster than the voice on the other end of the line.

After ringing several times, the other end answered. Old Song's voice was still as loud as ever, like an old bronze bell being struck, with a crispness that only a soldier could possess.

"Dr. Chen? What made you think of calling me?"

Chen Ping stood up and walked to the window, saying in a somewhat humble voice, "Mr. Song, I have something I'd like to ask for your help with again."

"Speak, what is it? Like I said, as long as it doesn't violate the rules and principles, it's fine." Old Song readily agreed.

Chen Ping quickly recounted Su Meng's story from beginning to end.

He spoke as concisely as possible, but made every key point very clear.

"Mr. Song, my ex-wife has truly been framed and wronged. I hope you can help me."

After Chen Ping finished speaking, there was a few seconds of silence on the other end of the phone.

Chen Ping's hand was trembling as he held his phone, and you could hear his heart pounding with nervousness.

If Old Song doesn't agree to help, then he really has no other choice.

"Dr. Chen, I happen to be going to Tianhai City this afternoon. Could you book a private room for us tonight so we can talk more?"

After more than ten seconds, Old Song finally spoke.

However, Mr. Song neither declined nor immediately agreed.

"Alright, alright, I'll wait for Elder Song tonight."

Chen Ping quickly agreed.

Although Mr. Song didn't offer to help, his willingness to meet in person proves that there is hope.

Chen Ping noted down the approximate time of Song Lao's arrival. After hanging up the phone, he searched online for a well-regarded Chinese restaurant and booked the innermost private room.

Chen Ping arrived at the restaurant early in the evening.

The private room wasn't large, but it was very clean. A landscape painting hung on the wall, and a snow-white tablecloth covered the round table, with the tableware neatly arranged.

He asked the waiter to brew a pot of tea and bring it over. After the teacups were set out, he sat down and waited.

When the tea got cold, he poured another pot of hot water. Every time he heard footsteps in the corridor, he would look up and his heart would beat up and down with each step.

Just after seven o'clock, the door to the private room was pushed open.

Old Song walked in, wearing a dark gray jacket, his hair neatly combed, looking much the same as when I last saw him in Siping Township, his back still as straight as ever.

Behind him was a middle-aged man, around fifty years old, wearing a dark executive jacket and silver-rimmed glasses. He had a calm demeanor and bright eyes.

He looks like someone who has been in a certain position within the system for a long time.

The two people walked in one after the other, and Chen Ping quickly stood up to greet them, pulling out chairs for them to sit down.

The middle-aged man glanced at Chen Ping, then said to Old Song, "Old Chief, is this the Dr. Chen you mentioned whose medical skills rival those of Hua Tuo?"

"That's right, this is the Dr. Chen I was talking about." Old Song nodded. "Xiao Li, if you have any health problems in the future, just go to him directly. Don't go to any big hospitals."

The middle-aged man, called Xiao Li, sized up Chen Ping and said, "Not bad, young and promising."

After saying that, the middle-aged man seemed to remember something and pointed at Chen Ping, asking, "Were you the one who came to the city to give a report yesterday?"

"It's me." Chen Ping nodded somewhat humbly.

"Hahaha, no wonder the old commander keeps talking about you. It seems you really have some skills. You even saved someone with amniotic fluid embolism. It's no exaggeration to say you're as good as Hua Tuo (a legendary Chinese physician)."

The middle-aged man laughed heartily.

"You flatter me, sir..." Chen Ping said somewhat awkwardly.

Old Song pointed to the middle-aged man and introduced him to Chen Ping, "Dr. Chen, this is Li Jizhong, the Party Secretary of Tianhai City. He used to be one of my men."

"He was the dumbest when he was in the army, but now he's doing the best..."

"It's all thanks to the old leader's guidance; otherwise, I wouldn't be where I am today!" Li Jizhong hurriedly said.

"Haha, you're such a smooth talker, kid." Old Song laughed heartily.

Chen Ping's heart skipped a beat.

Party Secretary of Tianhai City?

What the hell!

The most awesome person in Tianhai City.

When the clinic was shut down last time, Old Song called Secretary Li, and the enforcement team returned the tools that afternoon.

He quickly extended his hand, bowed slightly, and shook it, saying, "Hello, Secretary Li, please sit down, please sit down..."

"Sit down..." Li Jizhong shook hands with Chen Ping.

The three of them sat down, and Chen Ping handed the menu over to the two leaders to order. Old Song waved his hand and told Chen Ping to make his own choice.

Chen Ping gave the waiter a few instructions, picked out a few of the restaurant's signature dishes, and added a braised pork hock that Old Song had taken a few extra bites of at Old Zhou's restaurant last time.

He didn't know if the shop could make it, but he ordered it anyway.

The dishes were served one after another.

Braised pork hock, steamed sea bass, dry-fried cabbage, steamed scallops with garlic and vermicelli, plus a pot of old duck soup.

"Mr. Song, Secretary Li, it is my honor to have dinner with you both today. I would like to propose a toast to you both."

Chen Ping poured wine for the two men and then spoke respectfully.

"Dr. Chen, it's just the three of us today, no leaders around, so please don't be shy, just chat casually, treat it like a family dinner."

Old Song waved his hand, but still raised his wine glass and clinked it with Chen Ping's.

"Yes, don't be shy..." Li Jizhong also raised his wine glass.

The three of them drank their wine at the same time, and then Chen Ping invited the other two to eat some food.

At this moment, Chen Ping was overjoyed. Since even the Party Secretary of Tianhai City had come to see Old Song, there was definitely no problem with Su Meng's matter.

The three men ate and chatted, and Old Song and Li Jizhong talked about the war years ago.

"Little Li, back then you were clumsy, but you were brave. In the 10-kilometer cross-country race, you were always the last one. But when you went to the battlefield, you were roaring and charging ahead."

"Back then, a stray bullet hit my calf. If it weren't for you braving a hail of bullets to carry me back, I probably would have been buried on that hilltop by now."

Old Song patted Li Jizhong on the shoulder and said.

"Old commander, back then my eyes were red, I didn't know what fear was. But later, inside the cat-ear cave, I was really scared."

"I had no water to drink, I couldn't sleep, and my pants were ripped. At that time, I wasn't afraid of dying, but I was afraid of becoming mentally ill."

Li Jizhong reminisced about the past with great emotion, then looked at Chen Ping and said, "Dr. Chen, you are living such a good life now, you should be content and grateful to the country."

"Back then we were only teenagers, much younger than you are now. Many of our comrades never even held a woman's hand before they all sacrificed their lives..."

"I still remember Xiaochengzi. That guy was only sixteen, younger than my son now. He killed three enemies by himself, and then detonated a grenade, taking the enemy with him."

"I was just a dozen meters behind him, and I watched helplessly as he was blown to pieces..."

Li Jizhong's eyes reddened, and his voice began to choke.
