"Alright, alright, let's take him away first. We'll release him once we've investigated." The short auxiliary police officer said, already pulling out handcuffs and walking towards Chen Ping.

Chen Ping remained silent, simply observing everything with a cold eye.

He was all too familiar with this routine. Township police stations, local bullies—that little thug's boast about "the entire Siping Township Police Station belongs to Brother Ma" wasn't an exaggeration.

The handcuffs were cold and made a crisp click as they fastened to my wrists.

"My things." Chen Ping glanced at the wooden box placed at the door of the clinic.

The short auxiliary policeman went into the house, took out the wooden box, and weighed it in his hand: "It's quite heavy. What's inside?"

"It's an heirloom," Chen Ping said casually.

"Take him away, take him away." The tall auxiliary police officer waved his hand.

As Chen Ping was being put into the police car, he looked back once.

Zhao Guosheng stood in the courtyard, his face full of anxiety. The young doctor clenched his fists, angry but unable to speak out.

Liu Mazi grinned, his face full of wrinkles, and gave Chen Ping the middle finger.

The police car started up and drove out of the health center with its siren blaring.

Inside the car, the tall auxiliary police officer lit a cigarette, took a deep drag, and glanced at Chen Ping in the rearview mirror: "From the city?"

Chen Ping remained silent.

"I'm asking you a question!" The short auxiliary police officer turned around and glared at him.

"Yes," Chen Ping uttered a single word.

"Are you here to provide counterpart support?" the tall man asked again.

Chen Ping nodded.

The tall man took a drag on his cigarette, his tone tinged with sympathy: "You're really unlucky. You offended Liu Mazi on your very first day. That guy has been hanging around in Siping Township for over ten years. He's practically worn down the threshold of the police station. Going in is like going back to your mother's house."

"Does he go in there often?" Chen Ping asked.

"It's always something trivial, every few days," the tall man chuckled. "But every time I go in, I come out even faster."

Chen Ping understood and didn't say anything more.

The police car bumped along for a few minutes before entering a large courtyard.

The courtyard was quite large. On the east side, there was a row of single-story houses with a sign that read "Siping Township Police Station," and on the west side, there was a row of two-story buildings with a sign that read "Siping Township People's Government."

As Chen Ping was being led off the car, he caught a glimpse of a familiar figure outside the row of buildings to the west.

An elderly woman with gray hair was carrying a bag of things as she walked inside.

It's that old woman on the bus.

Chen Ping was stunned for a moment, and before he could look around, he was pushed into the police station.

The room was simply furnished with a few desks, a few chairs, and rules and regulations hanging on the wall.

A middle-aged police officer sat at his desk, looking through some documents.

"Commander Zhou, the person has been brought back."

The tall auxiliary police officer went up to report, "The fight at Siping Township Health Center, the doctor from the city, beat up Liu Mazi and his gang. They beat them pretty badly; several of them can't get up."

Director Zhou looked up, glanced at Chen Ping, his eyes revealing no emotion: "What's your name?"

"Chen Ping."

Why are you fighting?

"They came to the health center to cause trouble, and I acted in self-defense," Chen Ping said.

Before Chief Zhou could speak, the tall auxiliary police officer interjected, "Chief Zhou, Liu Mazi's group and a few others are indeed seriously injured. This... wasn't it excessive self-defense?"

Director Zhou waved his hand, signaling him to be quiet, and then asked Chen Ping, "Are there any witnesses?"

"The director of the health center, several doctors, and everyone in the entire compound saw it," Chen Ping replied.

Director Zhou nodded and said to the short auxiliary police officer, "Go to the health center, find out what happened, and get the witness statements."

The short auxiliary police officer responded and turned to leave.

Director Zhou then looked at Chen Ping: "Sit down for a while, and we'll talk after the investigation is complete."

Chen Ping sat down in the chair, with the wooden box beside his legs.

The tall auxiliary police officer poured him a glass of water, and his attitude was better than before.

After waiting for about twenty minutes, the short auxiliary police officer returned, followed by Zhao Guosheng.

"Chief Zhou, I understand the situation." The short auxiliary police officer recounted the situation, which was completely different from what Liu Mazi had told him.

After listening, Director Zhou looked at Zhao Guosheng and asked, "Dean Zhao, is what you said true?"

"Absolutely true!"

Zhao Guosheng patted his chest and said, "Everyone in our health center saw it. Liu Mazi brought four or five people, specifically naming Dr. Chen, and even said they would smash up the health center. Dr. Chen was simply acting in self-defense."

Director Zhou remained silent for a moment, just as he was about to speak, when footsteps suddenly came from outside the door.

The door was pushed open, and a man in his thirties walked in, dressed in a suit and wearing glasses, looking quite refined.

"Director Zhou," the man greeted as he entered.

Director Zhou stood up: "Deputy Secretary Zhang? What brings you here?"

Deputy Secretary Zhang smiled, his gaze sweeping around the room before settling on Chen Ping: "I'm here to see someone. Is this gentleman surnamed Chen, and named Chen Ping?"

Chen Ping was taken aback: "It's me."

Deputy Secretary Zhang strode over and extended his hand: "Dr. Chen, hello, hello. My name is Zhang Jianmin, and I'm the deputy secretary of the township. My mother just told me that you saved my daughter's life on the bus, so I came here specifically to thank you."

Chen Ping then realized that the old woman's son who worked in the township government was none other than Deputy Secretary Zhang.

"Secretary Zhang, you're too kind. I'm a doctor, it's my duty," Chen Ping said, shaking his hand.

Zhang Jianmin gripped the hand tightly, his tone sincere: "It's only right? My mother said that if it weren't for you, my daughter would have died. I, Zhang Jianmin, will remember this kindness."

After he finished speaking, he turned to Director Zhou and asked, "Director Zhou, what's going on? What's Dr. Chen doing here?"

Director Zhou briefly explained the situation.

Upon hearing this, Zhang Jianmin frowned: "Liu Mazi? It's that Liu Mazi again?"

"Yes, we have basically investigated the situation and Dr. Chen acted in self-defense," Director Zhou said.

Zhang Jianmin nodded and looked at Chen Ping: "Dr. Chen, don't worry, I'll keep an eye on this for you. Liu Mazi has been running rampant in Siping Township for a long time, he should have been taught a lesson long ago."

As he spoke, he looked at Director Zhou and asked, "Director Zhou, shouldn't this kind of disorderly conduct be dealt with seriously?"

Director Zhou smiled and said, "Deputy Secretary Zhang, rest assured, everyone is equal before the law, and those who should be dealt with will be dealt with accordingly."

No sooner had he finished speaking than another commotion erupted outside the door.

Immediately afterwards, the door was pushed open, and Liu Mazi, along with several of his henchmen, entered the police station.

Judging from Liu Mazi's appearance, it was as if entering the police station was the same as entering his own home; there wasn't the slightest bit of panic on his face.

"Chief Zhou, this Chen Ping hit us. We must lock him up for a few days and teach him a lesson!"

Liu Mazi, with a cigarette dangling from his lips, glanced at Chen Ping with a cold smile.

Zhang Jianmin looked at Liu Mazi and said coldly, "Liu Mazi, you've come at the right time. You said Dr. Chen hit you? Then tell me, why did he hit you? What were you doing at the clinic with those people?"
