A 10x frame rate corresponds to a 10x increase in lighting.

Lighting setup alone is not something that an ordinary lighting technician can accomplish.

And when it comes to ultra-high-speed slow motion, such as Neo dodging bullets in The Matrix (1999).

That's something that domestic films and television dramas can't produce.

To film this sequence, the director used a combination of "static camera array + green screen + CG background" to achieve the desired effect.

The core principle is:

Time slice!

In a green screen studio, the camera crew used 122 Nikon 35mm film still cameras, arranged in an arc or circular array around the actors.

All cameras are triggered sequentially at millisecond intervals to create the effect of extremely slow main movement (Neo leaning back to dodge bullets), but the perspective is constantly circling and moving.

This kind of effect requires extremely high levels of technology, talent, and funding.

Only Hollywood can afford to play this game.

(In later generations, with the development of technology, slow motion became simpler, but ultra-high-speed slow motion is not something that ordinary people can afford to do.)

But now, this "bullet time" has appeared in a short video of less than 3 minutes. How could this not surprise relatively professional people like Bi Sheng and Wang Jia?
