Lu Jinyu first took her to catch shrimp.

He explained to her as he walked:

"These places used to be used for rice cultivation. After my grandfather retired, he converted these places."

"We can raise both fish and shrimp, but we can't eat them all. After they grow fat, we give them to our neighbors."

Every spring, Grandpa would buy some shrimp fry and release them into the pond, as August and September are when the shrimp are at their fattest and most delicious.

Other people can't keep fish and shrimp alive, but Grandpa can keep them all alive and raise them exceptionally well.

"Grandpa is pretty amazing," Nangong You said.

"Yes, old people just can't stay idle."

Lu Jinyu smiled and said, "My hobby is tending to my flowers, plants, chickens, ducks, fish, and geese."

Grandma's hobby was playing mahjong.

"But actually, moving around regularly is good for your health," Nangong You said with a light laugh. "I see that Grandpa is in particularly good health."

He doesn't look like a seventy-year-old at all; he looks like he's in his fifties, and he's in excellent spirits.

The two crossed a narrow ridge between rice paddies, with waist-high weeds on both sides. The shrimp pond was at the end of the ridge.

The area is about half the size of a basketball court. The water is a light greenish-blue, and you can see the swaying aquatic plants at the bottom.

A gentle breeze blew across the water, carrying a faint, fishy smell mixed with the scent of aquatic plants and mud.

Nangong You sniffed, her brows furrowing almost imperceptibly, but quickly relaxed again.

"Stand a little further away," Lu Jinyu said softly.

"It's okay, I'll stay with you."

Nangong You smiled at him, the sunlight shining obliquely on her porcelain-like face.

Her flawless, beautiful face looked even more stunning because of that gentle smile.

It's so beautiful it's almost unfair!

Lu Jinyu's gaze lingered on her face for a moment—very briefly, so briefly it seemed accidental.

But it was enough to leave an imprint on his heart.

He quickly looked away.

But the heart doesn't cooperate very well.

My heart pounded violently several times.

Lu Jinyu was carrying a small red bucket with a lid, and next to the shrimp pond was a net bag specifically for catching shrimp.

"I want to try too," Nangong You said eagerly.

Lu Jinyu glanced at Nangong You's delicate, white hands; she probably had never done this kind of work before.

However, seeing her expectant expression, Lu Jinyu couldn't refuse and handed her the net.

Nangongyou was clearly very excited. After casting the net, all the shrimp escaped, and she didn't catch a single one.

She frowned and tried a few more times.

Still nothing.

The excited expression on Nangong You's face slowly faded, turning into a bitter and confused look.

"If you do that, the shrimp will hear the noise from far away."

Lu Jinyu gently instructed her: "Don't rush, be gentle. Keep the net close to the bottom of the water and move it slowly over there. Don't shake the water. Once the shrimp are inside, slowly lift it up."

"Oh, okay."

Nangong You seemed to understand.

She tried it, but—

My mind clearly understood, but my hands didn't.

The net made a slight commotion when it entered the water, startling the shrimp, which scattered in all directions.

She fished several more times, but the net was empty. Her face was filled with resentment.

"I'll do it," Lu Jinyu said with a smile.

"You're making fun of me." Nangong You turned her head and glared at him, her cheeks puffing out slightly. "No way, I'm going to catch some shrimp today."

Lu Jinyu was stunned for a moment, momentarily taken aback by her fierce yet adorable appearance.

Who can withstand this?!

He seems to be reaching his limit!

Nangong You tried several more times, each time with more frantic movements, and each time the result was more disastrous.

She stood by the water, holding a net, looking down at the surface, her lips pursed, as if she were struggling with the shrimp at the bottom.

Standing behind her, Lu Jinyu watched her angry yet stubborn expression, and a small smile unconsciously curved her lips.

"Teach me," Nangong You suddenly turned around and looked at him.

"How...how do I teach you?" Lu Jinyu felt a little flustered by her gaze. "Didn't I just teach you?"

Nangong You didn't say anything, but simply handed the net bag in her hand forward, her eyes filled with a sense of expected entitlement.

Lu Jinyu hesitated for a moment, then walked over and stood beside her.

He reached out and grasped the long pole of the net, positioned below her hands.

The two men's hands were positioned one above the other, gripping the same pole without touching each other.

But the distance is indeed very close.

He was so close that he could see the fine downy hairs on her earlobes and smell the delicate, pleasant scent of roses emanating from her.

Nangong You didn't notice any of this; her attention was entirely on the water, her eyes sparkling as she stared at the shrimp at the bottom.

Lu Jinyu's gaze fell on her fair profile, then quickly moved away.

"Don't rush, take your time." His voice was lower and gentler than before.

He gripped the bottom of the pole and gently moved the entire net, drawing a slow arc on the bottom of the water.

Nangong You dared not breathe too loudly, afraid of scaring the shrimp away, and her fair hands moved in rhythm with his movements.

"stop."

Lu Jinyu lowered her voice.

The net stopped, and a bluish-gray shrimp was lying on the edge of the net opening, its antennae swaying gently, completely unaware of the situation.

"Lift it slowly."

The two of them slowly lifted the net together.

Water leaked through the mesh of the net, and the shrimp finally reacted, leaping up suddenly, but it was too late.

"We caught it!"

Nangong You's eyes lit up as she looked at the shrimp in the net.

"I deserve half the credit." She turned back and smiled at him, the smile spreading from the corner of her eyes to the corner of her lips.

Lu Jinyu lowered her eyes, nodded, and said softly:

"Um."

On the distant ridge beside the small courtyard, Grandpa Lu Zhengming appeared out at some point.

He stood with his hands behind his back and watched for a long time.

The pretty girl was bending over, peering into the small red bucket to look at the shrimp inside, her eyes crinkling with laughter.

His grandson stood beside him, listening quietly, a smile playing on his lips that he himself didn't even realize.

This scene...

"They're actually quite a good match!"

Lu Zhengming stroked his chin and smiled, then turned and walked back, his steps lighter than when he came.

After catching the shrimp, Lu Jinyu caught a carp and put it in the small red bucket, then put the lid on and weighed it down with a stone.

I'll be passing by here again after I catch the chickens, so I'll come back to get them then.

"My grandfather's chickens are all free-range, fed with grain, unlike the chickens in the city that are fed commercial feed."

Lu Jinyu said as she walked.

"Huh? What's different?" Nangong You blinked her beautiful eyes and asked, puzzled.

"The texture is different, I can't really explain it, but it tastes much better than that one."

"Oh, I'm in luck then." Nangong You smiled.

The two walked towards the bamboo forest not far away.

The bamboo grove wasn't large, but it grew very densely, and there was a faint, pleasant fragrance of bamboo leaves in the air.

There were five or six large white geese nearby, the lead one being particularly large and white, weighing at least ten pounds.

"What a beautiful white goose."

Nangong You's eyes lit up, and she bent down to reach out and touch the lead white goose.

"Don't--"

Before Lu Jinyu could finish speaking, the big white goose stretched its neck and spread its wings halfway, chasing after Nangong You and biting her.

Startled by the sudden attack, Nangong You instinctively took two steps back and turned to run.

"Little Fish, help!"

She ran while screaming for help.

Luckily, she has long legs, otherwise she would have been caught.

But the white goose's speed is astonishing.

With its long neck stretching and retracting, its beak remained only a hand's width away from her fair calves.

"Little Fish, help!"

Her voice carried an even more obvious panic, and she ran in a flustered and disheveled manner.

Lu Jinyu was also startled.

He ran over quickly, instantly blocking Nangong You's path, and grabbed the outstretched neck of the white goose.

The white goose flapped its wings and let out a series of angry cries, but it was no use to Lu Jinyu.

Nangong You hid behind Lu Jinyu.

One hand instinctively gripped the hem of his shirt on his back, while the other pressed against her heaving chest.

"That scared me to death..."

She peeked out from behind Lu Jinyu, her voice still trembling with a hint of panic.

Only after realizing there was no danger did she feel completely relieved.

"Let's go catch chickens," she said.

Lu Jinyu glanced back at her, then at the struggling white goose in her hand, and suddenly asked:

"Senior Nangong, would you like some braised goose in an iron pot?"
