I reign supreme in the Western fantasy world for eternity.
Chapter 196 One Sword Clears the Picture
When Ji Tian went to the Western Territory, he used a pseudonym and disguised his appearance, but the elven archer was still able to identify his true identity by observing Lilith's presence and his own breathing rate.
Before they could exchange pleasantries, the stone fortress platform beneath their feet suddenly trembled.
The distant bugle call suddenly rose to a crescendo, followed by a deafening roar, like a howl from the depths of the earth, carrying the scent of sulfur and lava.
"Enemy attack—!"
Legolas had already gripped the longbow on his back almost the instant the scout uttered the first word, and his figure shot towards the edge of the city wall like an arrow. His movements were so fast that Lilith didn't even have time to blink.
Anna turned around abruptly, the holy book opening in her hands. Soft white light rose from between the pages, instantly condensing into a pale golden film that protected her and the nearby magicians.
"It seems some things will have to be discussed later, my hero," Anna's voice carried on the wind.
Ji Tian took the holy sword off his shoulder.
The sacred mountain on the holy sword had shrunk to the size of a fist, and was inlaid in the hilt like a golden decorative gem. The moment Ji Tian touched it, the golden light suddenly lit up, and the light spread from the hilt along the blade, flowing like blood, and quickly covering the entire longsword.
He took a step forward, and with a light touch on the fortress platform, he had already leaped onto the city wall.
The scene outside the city walls unfolded before his eyes.
As dusk fell, the gray-green hills and sparse woodlands stretched out in the distance, while at that moment, the desolate wilderness was being submerged by a dark red torrent.
Hundreds of fire demons surged from the horizon, their bodies burning with orange-red flames, each step they took scorching and cracking the earth beneath their feet.
The flames stretched out in a continuous line, turning half the sky red, like volcanoes about to erupt.
The massive horde of fire demons marched forward side by side with an unstoppable momentum. Each one was four or five people tall and wielded a giant axe or chain hammer forged from obsidian and lava. Flames spewed from their shoulders, backs, and joints, leaving long, charred footprints as they walked.
The elven archers on the city wall had already drawn their bows, and emerald green life magic condensed at the tips of their arrows. They shot into the horde of fire demons, but failed to stop their advance. Instead, it excited these fire demons who loved battle the most.
"There are too many of them!" A slightly anxious voice from an elven officer came from the other side of the city wall. "The scouts at the front report that they are pouring out of the rift to the southeast, and their numbers are still increasing. Our defensive positions on this side are somewhat weak—!"
Before the words were finished, several loud explosions came from below the city wall. The fire demons began to accelerate their charge, their giant feet shattering the ground and kicking up large amounts of earth and rocks.
Ji Tian stood at the edge of the city wall, his robes fluttering in the scorching air.
He did not rush to draw his sword, but raised the holy sword above his head, the blade upside down, the tip pointing to the sky.
At this moment, the sacred mountain rapidly expanded, transforming into a towering mountain several stories high, suspended above the sword tip. Golden light burst forth from the mountain's surface, exploding into a visible ring of light centered on Ji Tian, sweeping across the entire wilderness.
The charging fire demons seemed to have crashed into an invisible wall, their bodies suddenly stiffening.
The flames on their bodies flickered violently the moment they came into contact with the golden light waves, and the aura of holy light caused the primal fire on the fire demons to begin to flicker unpredictably.
The elven archers on the city wall loosened their bowstrings by half an inch, staring blankly at the golden light spreading out.
The next second, Ji Tian swung the holy sword downwards.
A golden beam of light crashed down from the base of the sacred mountain, striking straight towards the center of the horde of fire demons—even before the beam landed, the ground began to tremble, and the air, compressed by the intense heat, emitted a sharp shriek.
The moment the beam of light struck the ground, it was as if a golden sun had fallen to earth, its blinding white light engulfing the entire wilderness.
Everyone on the city wall lost their sight within those three seconds.
Lilith instinctively crouched down to cover her head in defense, Elena raised her hand to cover her eyes, Ophelia closed her eyes, and even Legolas turned his head slightly to the side.
The light lasted for about six breaths.
When the white light faded, the open field outside the city walls was no longer the same as before:
The ground was plowed with a deep trench by the golden light, stretching from Ji Tian's feet all the way to the horizon. The soil on both sides of the trench was baked into a glassy state by the high temperature, and it shone with a cold light in the twilight.
The hundreds of fire demons had vanished without a trace.
There were no wreckage or ashes left, only the golden ravine still radiating warmth and the smoke and dust slowly spreading in the distance.
The city wall was completely silent.
The elven archers remained in their drawn bow positions, the emerald tips of their arrows shimmering silently in the twilight, as if frozen in time for a moment.
Someone loosened the bowstring, and the arrow fell crookedly towards the base of the city wall with a dull thud.
Ji Tian sheathed the Holy Sword on his shoulder, and the Holy Mountain shrank back to the size of a fist, quietly embedded in the hilt.
The golden halo slowly faded from the sword, as if the earth-shattering light just now was merely an illusion.
He turned his head to look at the elven officer on the city wall. "Anything else?"
The elven officer was clearly shocked by the hero's ability to clear the map with a single sword strike, and after a long pause, he stammered, "T-there's nothing for now."
Ji Tian nodded, hoisted the Holy Sword back onto his shoulder, turned and walked back along the city wall. After a few steps, he stopped and his gaze fell on Anna and Legolas.
"It's time for us to catch up, where shall we go?"
Inside the stone hall in the center of the fortress, the flames in the fireplace cast flickering light and shadows on the stone walls.
A long table was placed in the hall, on which were spread several sheepskin maps marked with the locations and movements of the demons. The ink was not yet dry, indicating that they had been marked on not long ago.
The group sat on either side, with Ji Tian in the main seat and Elena naturally sitting to his right. Lilith leaned against Elena, looking around, while Ophelia stood quietly behind Ji Tian.
Anna sat across the long table, the Holy Scripture folded and placed beside her. Legolas stood in the shadows by the window, his longbow leaning against the wall, the bowstring already readjusted.
Anna, a member of the church, spoke first, "The situation at the front is more complicated than described in the letter. The demons began gathering near the border three months ago, initially just small groups harassing and probing. In recent days, the frequency has increased significantly, with the Balrogs being deployed more than three times as often as before."
Ji Tian picked up a cup of warm tea from the table—a cup poured by someone—drank it in one gulp, then put it down, turning his gaze to Legolas: "What does this Demon King's army want?"
Legolas slightly raised his amber eyes and corrected him:
"Strictly speaking, they are not the Demon King's army."
