I reign supreme in the Western fantasy world for eternity.
Chapter 271 The Crown, Part 3, Chapter 2
The detective became increasingly emotional as he spoke, and in the end, he almost broke down in tears:
"I... I was forced to report you. Their task for me was to monitor suspicious individuals in this area. If I didn't do it, they would replace me with someone else..."
It was all just an illusion created by the crown. Ji Tian was too lazy to pay attention to his sophistry and simply knocked him unconscious.
Ji Tian had said during the interrogation that he wouldn't kill prisoners, so he naturally wouldn't lie.
He gagged all the demon captives and locked them in the bedroom, then changed into a dark coat he found in the closet and left the house.
Ji Tian speculated that there were three ways to solve the mission, in descending order of difficulty: infiltrating the royal palace; persuading the humans in the wealthy area to leave; and going to the slums to use one's identity, status, or power to guide the residents to leave.
If a task has a rating, choosing the highest difficulty task will definitely yield a higher reward.
A month is still a bit too long.
The streets of the capital were more bustling than Ji Tian had expected.
Most of the shops along the street were open, and the human shop assistants were attentively serving the demons coming and going. Occasionally, humans would pass by, but they would hurry along, their eyes lowered, not daring to make eye contact with the demons.
The royal palace sits at the end of the capital's central axis, with towering gray-white stone walls guarded by fully armed demon soldiers. The magical runes on the arrow towers gleam with a dark purple light in the sunlight.
When Ji Tian arrived at the palace gate, the two cast iron gates were wide open, and six demon guards stood at the entrance.
They were taken aback when they saw a human walking alone. Then, one of the demons laughed, and the leading guard came down the steps, stood in front of Ji Tian, and patted him on the shoulder.
"This is the royal palace. Humans without a demon-led presence are not allowed to enter."
Before he could finish speaking, his hand landed heavily on Ji Tian's shoulder, intending to teach him a lesson. However, the hand felt incredibly hard, as if he had struck armor.
He was stunned for a moment, and before he could retract his hand, Ji Tian grabbed his wrist. He then heard a cracking sound of bones dislocating, and his whole body crashed into his companion behind him, tumbling down the steps together.
Ji Tian stepped over them and onto the steps.
The alarm symbols on the inside of the palace gate lit up.
The patrol assembled within moments, and about thirty demon soldiers poured out from the side corridor, forming two lines to block the way.
The soldier at the front raised his halberd, the tip of which condensed dark red fire element, and swept it towards Ji Tian.
Without pausing, Ji Tian's figure passed directly from below the arc of fire into the other party's arms, his palm pressed against the other party's chest, pushing him away and knocking down three or four demons behind him.
Subsequent attacks followed.
The ice spike struck Ji Tian's robe, shattering into fragments; the wind blade grazed his neck without even breaking his skin; the Shadow Demon's claws were slapped away by him before they could touch his skin, and he grabbed the Shadow Demon's wrist, pulling the entire Shadow Demon out of the shadows and pinning it to the ground.
No demon could stop him.
The music inside stopped precisely on a rest when the main hall doors were pushed open.
The banquet hall was adorned with a high dome, resplendent in gold, and long tables were covered with deep red velvet tablecloths, filled with silver cutlery and crystal wine glasses.
Inside the hall, nearly a hundred demons were chatting and raising their glasses at a table.
A succubus, dressed in a long, sheer dress, leaned against the back of a chair, chuckling softly, her long, slender fingers teasing a young man she had just randomly grabbed from outside; shadow demons sat in a semicircle, whispering amongst themselves; a vampire stood by the window, holding a wine glass, his brows slightly furrowed as he looked in the direction Ji Tian had entered.
The glass contained a dark red liquid.
At the far end of the long table, dozens of humans, who served as blood sacrifices, knelt in the shadows of a corner, their wrists adorned with thin silver rings and faint traces of blood visible on their necks.
The vampire who first noticed Ji Tian put down his wine glass and walked slowly towards him, speaking calmly:
"Sir, you seem to have come to the wrong place."
Unfortunately, some high-ranking demons in the Demon King's castle look no different from humans, so the only way to identify them is by having them release their magic.
Perhaps the other party is an inspector sent by the Demon King.
He didn't receive a reply.
"Stop and explain why you're here, or I'll take action."
Seeing that the other party remained silent, the vampire frowned and raised his hand. Grayish-white magic power surged from his palm, transforming into several sharp blades that pierced straight into Ji Tian's chest and abdomen.
This is just a test. Once the other party unleashes the power of the demon race, we will apologize immediately. If the other party is just a human pretending to be powerful, then it doesn't matter if they die.
The moment the sharp blade sliced through Ji Tian's robes, it produced a sound similar to the clash of metal, before shattering and dissipating without leaving a trace on his skin.
What level of physical strength is this?
Ji Tian had already appeared in front of him. Without pausing, he placed his right hand on his shoulder and pressed down.
A series of soft sounds came from his back, and his whole body slumped down, kneeling on the ground, where he remained for a long time.
The music stopped completely.
The eyes of all the demons in the hall were instantly drawn to them.
Several magical fluctuations rose simultaneously, flames and frost intertwined and spread in the air, and several dark spikes protruded from the ground.
Ji Tian didn't dodge or stop; all physical attacks seemed to have no effect on him.
A succubus approached him, her steps light, her eyes sparkling, her lips slightly parted as if she were about to say something.
She had already raised one hand, her slender fingers reaching for Ji Tian's wrist, the tips of her fingers glowing with a faint pink light.
Ji Tian grabbed her wrist with his other hand, deflecting her force to the side, and patted her shoulder with his other hand.
Her body stiffened slightly, and she instinctively took two steps back, sliding down against the pillar without making a sound.
The remaining demons in the hall began to retreat, some trying to circle around to the side door.
Ji Tian didn't let them go. After another fierce hand-to-hand battle, none of the demons survived. Then, he walked towards the humans who were being fed in the corner.
They looked at Ji Tian with slight fear, clearly intimidated by his fighting style.
Ji Tian squatted down, his gaze sweeping over the silver rings on their wrists. He touched the clasp of the silver ring with his fingertips and gently pried it open.
These silver rings are magical artifacts used by the demon race, serving both positioning and punitive purposes.
The silver ring broke and fell onto the stone slab with a crisp sound.
"...Where are your companions? Take me there."
Seeing that the silver ring had been removed, the humans stood up one after another.
The demons ruled the capital for only 10 years. These people had all experienced the human kingdom era, and many of them were outstanding magicians during that time. Naturally, they would follow someone who was rescuing them.
Ji Tian passed through the side corridor and rescued the other people imprisoned in the dungeon. Afterwards, he went out, and the demons who had tried to intercept him fell to the ground in a mess after he passed, falling into a carefree slumber.
The journey was smooth and unobstructed.
He led the group directly across the street toward the city gate.
It took some effort to take down the guards when passing through the city gate. The city gate was pushed open from the inside, and nearly a thousand people walked across the long bridge and walked outward along the official road until the last person's figure disappeared at the end of the road.
Ji Tian stood at the crossroads outside the city gate, taking one last look at the city's outline, as a second message echoed in his mind:
[Second stage passed, your leadership is unparalleled]
[The third test of sacrifice and courage: either draw the holy sword, or wait until someone draws it and witness the Demon King's fall. No time limit.]
Ji Tian smiled.
Drawing a sword? I'm very familiar with that.
