Chapter 288 The Goddess's Kindness Can Never Be Repaid
Just as sea monsters dare not touch the fairy ship, these vines carry the aura of the goddess of life, and the golden dragon's reluctance to touch them is purely due to the instinct of its dragon bloodline.
This is due to the dragons losing in a "ranking competition" in ancient times.
However, this is a private matter and I cannot say more about it.
Seeing the hero's silence, Amy assumed he was considering how to overcome the obstacles, and she struggled to speak:
"Hero, I know my request may be a bit presumptuous, but my teammates are not bad people."
After each mission, Captain Ian would divide the reward into several portions and send them to the families of his fallen or injured teammates, keeping only the portion for himself to make a living.
Evan is my senior from school. He has often looked after me since I joined the Adventurers' Guild, and it was he who suggested that I take on this mission.
Dean stayed alone in the plague-stricken area for two months during the outbreak in the North, single-handedly saving several villages...
"Hero, please rescue them while ensuring your own safety. We will pay you a generous reward."
Although judging from past experience, all heroes are kind-hearted people who wouldn't have the heart to leave someone to die, Amy, having worked in the Adventurers' Guild for so many years, felt it was better to act in the manner of an adventurer.
"I was originally planning to deal with that door, and I certainly wouldn't leave them to fend for themselves if they were still alive."
Mia, supporting herself on the dragon's neck, stood up and took two steps forward, her silver armor clanging.
"I'm going too. Those are my team members; I can't just watch them get swallowed up and do nothing."
As she spoke, she turned her gaze to Jinlong: "Xiaohua, if you're afraid of the vines, then focus on protecting the injured and ordinary people."
The golden dragon flicked its tail impatiently, its tone firmly refusing:
"No need. I'm not afraid of vines or anything. I'll always be with you. That's a promise."
Ji Tian watched this scene unfold without offering any comment. Instead, he turned to look at the Aurelius family, who seemed to have a fear of heights.
"I will have Jinlong take you back to the camp. There might be a bigger commotion later. You can't help, and you can't escape either. You might as well stay at the camp and wait for news. The injured S-rank adventurer will also be here to recover and protect you."
Marcus Aurelius did not hesitate for long: "Hero, please be careful."
Riding the golden dragon back to the camp and setting the group down, Ji Tian gave Aurelius a few more instructions before leading Elena, Mia, and Xiaohua towards the depths of the mountains.
The flower stem had grown to be more than two people tall, as thick as a person's waist, and the petals shimmered with a pale golden light, like countless drooping lanterns.
The marks left by fire and destruction underfoot are being covered again by newly grown flowers.
Ji Tian walked at the front, his holy sword still sheathed, but the golden patterns on the hilt had already lit up, gently pushing aside the flower stems within a few steps around him.
Upon arriving at the doorway, Ji Tian narrowed his eyes slightly.
The door stood quietly in its place, a faint, dark golden light shining through its cracks, standing out starkly from its surroundings.
The vines along the edge of the door frame wriggled and twisted, as if they were breathing in the magical energy in the surrounding air.
Ji Tian took a few steps closer.
The door did not respond.
He continued forward until he was about twenty steps away from the door, when the door seemed to notice the aura of the holy sword. It trembled violently, and the entire door seemed to be pushed from the inside by something, sliding back several feet.
Ji Tian took another step, and the door moved back a little further, causing the vines to sway.
It ran away.
Ji Tian simply took a step forward and chased after him.
The door slid again, at an astonishing speed.
It left a trail in the air and quickly reappeared on the other side of the mountain. If it weren't for the vines that were holding it, it would probably have disappeared without a trace.
Mia stood atop the dragon's head, supporting Ji Tian, and was momentarily incredulous. "Is it afraid of the Holy Sword?"
"Maybe so, but let's catch up first anyway."
Ji Tian stepped onto the dragon's neck, standing at the seam between the dragon's head and back. The light from the hilt of the holy sword intertwined with the golden dragon's scales. He gave a command:
"Chase."
Little Flower suddenly spread her wings, the airflow bending the surrounding flower bushes, and she soared into the air, passing through the gaps in the vines, chasing after the direction in which the door had disappeared.
The door was still teleporting.
It kept flashing through the mountains, each time appearing further away than the last, the sound of vines dragging echoing through the valleys.
But the little flower is much faster.
The giant golden shadow twisted and weaved among the sea of flowers and vines. Every time a door appeared, the little flower had already adjusted its direction and was approaching the spot where it had emerged.
The two are getting closer and closer.
"How can it run so fast!" Xiao Hua couldn't help but exclaim during the flight.
"It's okay, it can't outrun you."
Before the words were even finished, the door seemed to know that it couldn't outrun the golden dragon, so it simply stopped trying to avoid it.
Suddenly appearing less than ten feet directly in front of the golden dragon, it expanded forward violently, like a gaping maw tearing open from the edge of the door frame to both sides.
The darkness behind the door poured out like liquid.
Before Xiaohua could turn around, her vision was swallowed by darkness. Her tail swept across a few flower stems, and then the entire dragon, along with everyone on its back, was engulfed in that darkness.
The darkness lasted for less than two breaths.
A stinging white light exploded from the edge of my vision, like sunlight shooting in from the far distance.
The wind subsided abruptly, and the air became dry and warm, carrying a fresh, grassy scent that was quite different from that of the North.
The little flower lost its balance during its fall, but quickly readjusted the angle of its wings, leveled its posture not far from the ground, and landed steadily, kicking up a cloud of dust.
Ji Tian jumped down from the dragon's head.
Mia rolled over and landed.
Elena and Ophelia followed closely behind. Lilith, who was feeling a bit dizzy on the dragon's back, was helped down by Ji Tian. After regaining her balance, she looked around and was stunned by the sight before her.
They were standing on a street.
The houses on both sides of the street are neatly arranged, with their doors tightly closed and windows shut.
A group of creatures formed from dense magical energy were slowly passing by at the end of the street.
They come in all shapes and sizes; some resemble wildebeest, others giant deer, with clearly defined fur textures that radiate various colors of light. They are munching on the tender grass and fruit neatly arranged by the roadside.
These creatures, composed of dense magical energy, were enormous. Even when they saw the golden dragon descending from the sky, they showed no fear, continuing to eat with their heads down, without even adopting a wary posture.
However, as Ophelia jumped off the dragon's back, the nearest magic creatures simultaneously raised their heads and fled as if they had seen a ghost.
The other magical creatures also became agitated and fled.
So Lilith only saw dust rising from the street, and didn't understand why.
"Huh? What's going on?"
Ophelia looked at Ji Tian with a blank expression, seeking his opinion.
Could it be that the magical creatures here were also persecuted by Him? Was the sealing of that door simply to prevent them from not being able to find this world later?
Ji Tian only needed to sense it slightly to know that the magic element here was basically the same as the world outside the door, and in terms of magic element concentration, it was even much higher.
"First, use the Concealing Breath Technique to hide your aura, then try changing your elven characteristics. There should be humans or humanoid creatures in the surrounding buildings. We can find out by asking around."
