Genshin Impact: Watch me turn the tables and kill my servants at the start!

Chapter 168 Wendy: If you hit me, don't expect me to pay you back!

On the stone steps outside the side door of the church, Wendy was still in the same position as after being beaten by Fanes—lying on her side, curled up on the ground, with one corner of her clothes rolled up and her collar askew.

Sunlight slanted down through the gaps in the tower, casting a slowly moving patch of light on Wendy. The patch of light moved along his shoulder line to near the back of his hand, as if he were taking a full nap at his own pace.

When Qin pushed open the door and came out, her gaze first swept around the empty steps, and then landed on the huddled figure below the stone steps.

Qin paused for a moment, then quickly walked down the steps and squatted down next to Wendy: "Mr. Wendy? What's wrong?"

Wendy didn't respond. His breathing was even and steady, as if he were experiencing a full sleep without dreams, but the reddening bruises on his face and the cuts on the corners of his mouth indicated that this "sleep" was not peaceful.

Qin reached out and gently touched his shoulder, not with much force, and called out again, "Mr. Wendy? Are you alright?" Wendy still didn't respond, not even blinking.

Barbara, hearing the commotion, came out through the side door. Her pace slowed noticeably when she saw Wendy on the ground, then she quickly walked over and knelt down beside him: "Is he injured? Does he need treatment?"

Qin straightened up: "I'm not sure how badly he's injured, but he hasn't woken up."

Barbara carefully handed the Sky Harp to the nun who was following her, then knelt beside Wendy, placing her hands on his body, a soft, aquamarine light emanating from her palms. The light traced his outline, flickering slightly when it touched the bruises, before receding back into her palms.

Barbara's expression changed from "I'm treating him" to "Huh," and then from "Huh" to "This doesn't seem to need treatment": "...His injuries aren't serious, just ordinary superficial wounds, not even broken bones. Logically speaking, injuries of this level shouldn't cause someone to fall into a coma."

Qin looked down at Wendy, who was still lying on the ground. "Let's take him inside to rest first." She bent down to help Wendy sit up.

Just then, Wendy's eyelashes fluttered. He slowly opened his eyes, blinked a few times as if adjusting to the afternoon light, and then "laboriously" turned his head to look at Jean and Barbara: "...Where am I?"

Wendy's voice was hoarse and weak, as if she had just woken up from a coma.

Qin helped him sit up: "You were lying on the ground outside the side door of the church. When we came out, we found you were unconscious."

Wendy raised her hand to touch the bruise on her face, letting out an exaggerated gasp: "Ouch...it hurts..."

Barbara looked at him: "You have marks on your body, did something happen?"

Wendy shook her head: "...I'm not really sure. Maybe I ran into some unfriendly debt collectors. But the wound isn't too deep. I'll just find a place to heal myself."

Wendy said, already pushing himself up from the ground. His movements still conveyed a sense of weakness, but after standing up straight, he patted the dust off his clothes: "There's a hot spring inn outside the city. I'll go there to recuperate for a couple of days and I'll be fully recovered."

Qin looked at him, her gaze shifting between the bruises on his face and his upright posture: "Are you sure you don't need to rest a little longer in the church?"

Wendy had already walked a few steps along the street when she turned back and waved to them, "No need, no need! I can handle it myself! You guys go about your business!"

Wendy's figure quickly blended into the afternoon market. She paused as she turned past the bakery, glanced at the windmill blades turning in the wind in the distance, and then continued walking.

Meanwhile, Fanes and Rosalind stood side by side at the crossroads leading to Liyue outside the east gate of Mondstadt. Fanes adjusted the collar of his coat and glanced at Rosalind: "Take the Heart of God back with you. I have some business to attend to in Liyue."

Rosalyn touched the faintly warm object in the inside pocket of her coat: "Are you sure you want to let him go like this? What he said just now clearly made him look for an excuse to slip away. He'll have another excuse to swindle money later."

Fanes adjusted the shoulder strap of his backpack: "I knew he would run away. But we've already fought today and obtained the Heart of God. Chasing after him will only make the Knights think we're acting too high-profile in Mondstadt. And if he's really pushed to the limit and calls on everyone in the Seven Kingdoms to boycott Winter's communication equipment and food supplies in the name of freedom, that would be the real trouble."

Rosalyn looked at him: "So you let him go on purpose?"

Fanes didn't deny it, but glanced at the distant church tower: "He owes me money, and he'll remember. As long as he remembers, there's always a day when he'll get it back. If he doesn't remember, then the next time we meet won't just be a beating."

Rosalind retie her coat. "So, what are your plans regarding Liyue?"

Fanes switched the backpack to one shoulder: "Let's finish things up with Wendy first, and deal with the arrangements for Liyue later."

Rosalyn nodded. "Then I'll be going now."

Rosalind walked a few steps along the road leading to Winter, then stopped and turned to look at him sideways: "Next time we meet, tell me how it felt when you beat up the Wind God."

Fanes thought for a moment and gave an assessment: "It feels good, not as solid as I imagined. If there's a next time, I'll be better prepared. At least I'll make sure there are no witnesses around before I make a move."

Rosalyn didn't reply, but continued walking along the road, her clothes being lifted and then falling back down by the wind, gradually shrinking into a receding silhouette along the edge of the road.

Fanes stood at the crossroads for a moment, then turned and walked in the direction leading to Liyue.
