Genshin Impact: Watch me turn the tables and kill my servants at the start!
Chapter 31 A short, extremely difficult green-haired young man
The nights at Wangshu Inn are much quieter than those at Liyue Harbor. After the daytime travelers have all left, only the rustling of the night wind through the reeds and the occasional calls of waterbirds in the distance remain in the inn.
Phanes lay in the soft bedding, looking up at the round, large moon outside the window. Moonlight streamed through the window and spilled onto the floor, illuminating the room in a half-light, half-dark atmosphere.
Yakoda was fast asleep on the floor, wrapped in a blanket, like a cat lying on its back. Her shallow, even breathing was steady, and her light golden hair was spread out on the pillow like a small patch of melting moonlight.
Fanes rolled over, resting his head on his arm and staring at the ceiling. A thought suddenly popped into his head—if only he had a cell phone at a time like this. Scrolling through short videos, reading novels, or playing a couple of games would be better than just staring blankly.
As Fanes was lost in thought, he suddenly caught a glimpse of something flashing outside the window. A green shadow swept across the edge of the window frame with incredible speed, so fast that Fanes almost thought it was a hallucination.
Fañez squinted and stared intently. In the moonlight outside the window, he could vaguely see a human figure standing in the shadow of the eaves. The slender figure was motionless in the wind, like a green bamboo growing on the roof.
Fanes sat up slightly and called out in a low voice, "Immortal?"
The figure outside the window didn't move.
Fanes called out again, "Great Sage?"
Still no response. Fanes thought for a moment, then raised his voice slightly: "You keep running into the same old guy? That short, incredibly difficult green-haired lad?"
The figure outside the window finally moved. The bluish-green figure swept from the eaves into the inside of the window at an extremely fast speed, almost imperceptible, and landed silently on the floor in front of Fanes' bed.
The moonlight illuminated the newcomer's appearance—light golden eyes gleamed with a cold light in the darkness, short dark green hair was gently stirred by the night breeze, and a purple mark on his forehead was faintly visible in the moonlight.
The immortal, who looked like a young boy, stood there with his arms crossed, his expression as cold as a jade carving just pulled out of an ice cellar.
"What?" His voice was even colder than his expression.
Fanes pulled the blanket up to cover his chin, leaving only his eyes showing as he looked at the person standing in front of the bed. He blinked and said, "Ah... it's nothing. I just wanted to ask why you suddenly appeared in my room?"
Xiao was silent for a moment. His golden, vertical pupils narrowed slightly. He opened his mouth, then closed it again, seemingly organizing his thoughts before speaking again: "...Did you call me?"
At the same time, Xiao's tone carried a hint of anger, as if asking, "What on earth are you doing?"
Fanes poked half his head out from under the covers: "I've never called Xiao the Immortal by his name. Do you admit that you're 'that short, difficult-to-please green-haired lad whom you see all the time'?"
Xiao's eyebrow twitched. He took a step forward, bent down, grabbed Fanes by the back of his collar, and pulled him out of bed like a little chick.
Fanes kicked his legs twice while suspended in mid-air, and the hem of his pajamas fell down due to gravity, revealing a section of his fair and tender calves.
Xiao lifted him up to be level with himself, scrutinized him closely with his golden eyes for two seconds, then shifted his gaze downwards to take in the height difference between them—Xiao was a whole head taller than him.
"You're not much taller than me."
Xiao's voice remained cold, but the implication that "you dare to mention your height?" was quite clear.
Fanes was being dangled in mid-air, and Chongxiao grinned: "It's alright, in two years you'll be just like me!"
After saying that, he paused for a second before realizing what he had just said. He meant to say, "In two years I'll be as tall as you," but he accidentally reversed the subject-verb-object order.
This translates to saying to Xiao, "In two years you'll be as tall as me," which is essentially a veiled insult about his height. However, the original version didn't actually compliment his height!
Xiao's eyebrow twitched again. This time it twitched more dramatically than before, and his eye even twitched slightly for a moment. He slowly placed Fanes back on the bed—his movements weren't exactly gentle, but at least he didn't throw him off—then turned away without a word, his bluish-green figure silently sweeping past the window and disappearing into the moonlight.
Fanes sat on the bed, staring blankly at the empty window for about three seconds, then silently shrank back into the covers, pulling the corner of the blanket over his head to cover himself.
Yakoda, who was on the floor, turned over, mumbled something incoherently, and fell asleep again.
Fanes closed his eyes under the covers, thinking it would be better to get up early and travel early tomorrow, so as not to run into that "short and difficult green-haired young man" again in the inn lobby in the morning.
The next morning, before dawn, Fanes set off with Jakoda and a small entourage. As they passed through the stone gate, the mountain mist had not yet dissipated, and the green mountains on both sides were shrouded in milky white clouds and mist. The air was as crisp and refreshing as a mint candy just pulled from a stream.
Yakoda walked quickly beside Fanes, her goggles dangling around her neck, her starry eyes darting around as she looked at the wildflowers by the roadside and the fish swimming in the stream.
As they reached the main road on the border of Mondstadt, Fanes spotted a familiar red figure in the distance. Rosalind was leaning against a large tree by the roadside, her long, golden curls gleaming warmly in the morning light, and she wore a light-colored outer garment.
When Rosalind saw Fanes and his group come into view, she straightened up and took two steps toward them.
"Little Twelve!"
Rosalind opened her arms and scooped up Fanes as he ran closer, hugging him tightly and ruffling his hair. "I heard you caused quite a stir in Liyue, and even got kidnapped?"
Fanes, swaying from side to side in her arms, struggled to peek out: "Sister Rosalin! Those people have already hung them up and given them a beating! Don't worry!"
After putting him down, Rosalyn bent down and pinched Yakoda's cheek. Yakoda tilted his head back and let her pinch him without resistance, and even rubbed against her palm.
When Rosalind straightened up, the corners of her mouth curved several degrees higher than when she arrived. She reached out and smoothed Yakoda's light blonde hair, which had been ruffled by the wind. "Let's go, I'll take you to have breakfast in Mondstadt. There's a place that makes pancakes with jam; I'm sure you two will love it."
Fanes followed Rosalind toward Mondstadt, while Akoda skipped along on the other side, her hands tugging at Rosalind's sleeves like a small fish hanging beside a large ship.
Rosalyn walked a little slower than usual, matching the pace of the two little ones. Occasionally, she would glance down to see if Fanes had stepped on her hem, or reach out to help Yakoda, who had almost tripped over a stone.
The morning light slanted down from the eastern hillside, casting the three people's shadows into long, overlapping patterns. In the distance, the outline of Mondstadt gradually became clearer in the morning mist, the blades of windmills were turning slowly, and a small flock of pigeons fluttered up from the city walls, drawing several white arcs against the blue sky.
Fañes looked up and asked, "Sister Rosalyn, what kind of jam is served with those pancakes?"
"They have strawberry, blueberry, and Mondstadt's specialty sunset jam."
Yakoda immediately chimed in from the other end: "Sunset jam! I want sunset jam!"
Rosalyn smiled and reached out to pat Yakoda's head: "We have everything, plenty of it."
