When Fanes pushed open the door of the Goethe Hotel, Little Black was dozing on his head, its round head drooping, its two little paws clutching the fur on the collar of his coat, and making soft, even purring sounds in its throat.

The sound of the door being pushed open made the young dragon's ears twitch. It opened its amber eyes a crack to glance at its surroundings, but finding no danger, it closed them again.

Rosalind was reading in her usual spot in the lobby lounge when she heard the door open. She looked up and first glanced at Fanes to make sure he wasn't missing any limbs. Then she looked up along his shoulder and saw a small black creature curled up next to his collar.

Her icy blue eyes narrowed slightly. She closed the book and placed it on her lap, then beckoned to Fanes: "Come here. What's that on your shoulder?"

Fanes walked up to her, took Blackie off his shoulder, and presented it to Rosalind with both hands: "A pet I found. Its name is Blackie. It's very well-behaved and doesn't bite."

Little Black was lifted into the air and kicked its four short legs. It opened its eyes groggily and saw an unfamiliar face in front of it.

It tilted its head and looked at Rosalyn. Its amber eyes held neither fear nor wariness, but rather a curiosity that seemed to ask, "Has another human come to touch me?"

Rosalyn reached out and gently rubbed the fine scale on its head. The little black dragon immediately perked up, arched its head forward, and buried its head in her palm, making a comfortable gurgling sound in its throat.

Rosalind's expression visibly softened. She withdrew her hand, tucked a stray hair behind her ear, and spoke in a lighter tone: "Such a clingy little thing. What breed? Where did you find it?"

Fanes placed Little Black back on his shoulder, and the young dragon immediately curled up again to continue dozing. He hesitated for a moment about whether to tell the truth, but considering Rosalind's seniority in the Fools and her judgment, he figured a lie wouldn't fool them for long, so he simply confessed.

"I found it in the Whispering Forest. It was originally the dragon Usa, which the doctor imprisoned on the seal for experiments. I... accidentally entered the seal, and then used the Eye of God to turn it into what it is now."

Rosalind's fingers, holding the teacup, paused slightly. Her icy blue eyes slowly moved from Fanes' face to the snoring baby dragon nestled on her shoulder, and then slowly returned to Fanes' face.

Rosalyn was silent for several seconds, then put down her teacup, her tone more serious than before: "Are you sure this is the Doctor's experiment? That Doctor? The Second Seat of the Fools?"

Fanes nodded: "Confirmed. There were two other doctor slides on site, one helped me get out, and the other chased after me and started yelling at me. The doctor who gave Little Black the slides also told me to stay away from all slides in the future."

Rosalyn leaned back in her chair and pondered for a while, her brows furrowing slightly before relaxing. Looking at Blackie's completely oblivious sleeping posture, and reflecting on the Doctor's style of doing things, she felt something was amiss.

Given the professor's personality, the fact that she could calmly send such words after her experimental subject, whom she had raised for who knows how many years, was intercepted halfway suggests that there must be some complicated reasons behind this that she couldn't quite figure out yet.

Rosalyn opened her mouth as if to ask a few more questions, but seeing Fanes's expression that said, "I'm already very tired, enough has happened today," she swallowed her words.

"……never mind."

Rosalind picked up her teacup again. "Let's put this aside for now. Just be careful. The Doctor's things aren't easy to take; what's free is often the most expensive. If you encounter anything unusual related to the Doctor, tell me immediately."

Fanes nodded vigorously: "I've got it, I've got it."

Rosalyn took a sip of tea and added, "You'd better avoid contact with the specimens from when the Doctor was between fifteen and forty-five years old. Those specimens are the most unstable in personality and the most difficult to deal with."

Fanes silently memorized this important life-saving guide, then took Little Black off his shoulder and placed it on the sofa cushion.

The baby dragon rolled over, lying on its back with its belly exposed, its four little claws curled up in front of its chest. It looked so lazy that it was nothing like the dragon that once roamed Mondstadt.

Yakoda popped out from the side, leaned over and poked Little Black's belly. The baby dragon kicked its leg when poked, whimpered and twisted around, then stopped moving.

Yakoda chuckled twice, then turned to Fanes: "Boss, what are we doing tomorrow?"

Fanes nestled into the sofa, hugging a cushion, and thought about tomorrow's plans: "Let's go beachcombing at Eagle's Nest tomorrow! I haven't been to the beach yet since I came to Mondstadt."

Yakoda's expression visibly fell when she heard the words "beachcombing." She withdrew her hand, her face showing an expression that said, "I heard a disaster warning."

"Ugh... I don't want to eat boiled seafood anymore. I ate that boiled fish that the boss made for us when we were in Nordkal a few years ago for years. Now, I get acid reflux whenever I see white seafood."

Fanes waved his hand: "Normal, normal! Tomorrow we'll add more oil, fry, stir-fry, pan-fry whatever we want, just don't boil it anymore."

Yakoda's expression softened slightly. She squatted down and continued poking Xiao Hei's belly. The young dragon, half-asleep from the commotion, rolled over and hid its belly underneath, using its tail to block Yakoda's hand.

Rosalind watched this scene from the side, put down her teacup, stood up, and patted her skirt: "Be careful at the beach tomorrow. I've had the tide times calculated for you. There are occasional Hilichurls around Eagle Beach, so if you see them, just go around them. Don't bomb their camps like you did before."

Fanes and Jakoda both looked away guiltily, and neither of them said a word.

Rosalind glanced at the two of them, didn't ask any further questions, and turned to walk upstairs. After her figure disappeared around the corner of the stairs, Fanes finally breathed a long sigh of relief, picked up the still belly-up baby dragon, and walked towards his room.

Yakoda followed behind, muttering to herself about what seashells to collect and what crabs to look for when she went beachcombing tomorrow. Her voice echoed softly in the corridor.

The evening light slanted in from the window at the end of the corridor, casting a warm golden patch on the floor. When Fanes opened the door, Little Black rolled over in his arms, opened its amber eyes, blinked at him, and then slowly closed them again.

Outside the window, the twilight of Mondstadt was sinking behind the silhouette of the windmill towers, the horizon was dyed with a gradient of color from orange to blue, and a few early stars were already faintly shining in the deep blue sky.

Fanes placed the little black dog in the makeshift nest he had built for it at the foot of the bed—a large basket lined with soft cloth—then he sprawled out on his back on the bed and stared blankly at the ceiling for a while.

Yakoda rolled over in her little bed and mumbled, "Don't forget to bring extra oil tomorrow, boss," before falling silent.
