Chapter 114 The Ghost Girl Who Wanted to Get into the Television
Turn the corner and you'll find a vacant lot overgrown with weeds.
Compared to the neon-lit hustle and bustle of the main street of the Two Realms Paradise, this place is as quiet as another world.
A crooked street lamp stood in the center of the open space, its lampshade covered with a thick layer of dust, its dim light barely illuminating a few meters around it.
Under the lamp sat an old CRT television set, its screen still lit, filled with static and hissing. A power cord, seemingly from nowhere, was plugged into the set and meandered into the depths of the grass.
Beside the television sat a dog. It was light blue and semi-transparent, shaped like a small terrier, with a pair of pointed ears.
Its hind legs trembled slightly, its tail was tucked between its legs, and its eyes were staring intently at something.
"It's Rocket." Xing squinted and recognized the transparent puppy.
The Rockets also took notice of Pepe.
Its ears perked up suddenly, and its eyes, which had been fixed on the television screen, lit up instantly.
It sprang up from in front of the TV, rushed towards Peipei, and circled her wildly, its tail wagging in a blue afterimage.
Rocket tried to nuzzle Transparent Pepe's neck with his head, but unfortunately couldn't reach it, and let out a series of short barks.
Pepe was a little bewildered by its enthusiasm, took two steps back, but its tail wagged unconsciously as it tilted its head to look at the rocket.
"What is it trying to express?" Lu Ze asked, looking down at the rocket's series of excited, distorted movements.
"I don't know." Xing shook her head, looking quite helpless. "Synesthesia beacons can't translate animal language."
"Then how can we understand what Peipei is saying?" Lu Ze pressed.
"Of course, it's because Estelle asked the Black Tower to specially customize a synesthetic beacon for Pepe," Hoshi answered matter-of-factly.
These custom-made synesthetic beacons are not things you can buy on the market, even if they are just something a genius created casually.
As if suddenly remembering something, the rocket stopped circling, turned around and rushed in front of the two, raising its head and barking urgently a few times.
Then it ran to Peipei's side, nudged its neck with its nose, and ran back to the two of them, repeating this several times.
"The Rockets told us to go with them."
Pepe crouched at Xing's feet, tilting its head back to translate. It was the only one in the entire arena who understood what the Rockets were saying.
Xing walked a few steps forward in the direction the rocket was running back and forth, and went around the crooked lamppost.
Then she stopped.
There was a person standing in front of that old television set.
Or rather, a ghost.
A translucent girl floated in front of the television, her feet a few inches off the ground, her light-colored dress swaying slightly at her knees.
She looked to be about fifteen or sixteen years old, wearing a style that was only popular fifteen years ago. Her face was obscured, but you could see her reaching out to touch the television screen again and again.
Each time her fingertips touched the snowflakes, they were repelled by an invisible force. Her hand recoiled slightly, then reached out again, touching the screen at the exact same angle and with the same force.
Time and again, he repeated the same action with a blank expression, like a broken robot.
The rocket flew between the girl and the television, blocking the screen with its body, and barked softly at the girl.
The girl stopped what she was doing, tilted her head to look at it, and saw no life in its empty eye sockets.
Then she reached out again, bypassing Rocket's translucent body to reach for the screen. Rocket panicked, jumped up, shoved her hand away with his head, and turned to protect the screen once more.
One insisted on going in, while the other refused to let him in, and the two ghosts remained locked in a stalemate.
"What's going on here?" Lu Ze walked to Xing's side, looking at the ghostly duo who were silently locked in a stalemate under the dim light.
