Chen Qing walked out of the police station step by step.

He was pale, with sunken eyes, his hair disheveled and plastered to his forehead, and his clothes were wrinkled and carried a musty, oppressive smell. He raised his head, his gaze sweeping across the doorway before instantly settling on that familiar yet haggard figure.

Zhou Yufei was standing at the base of the wall not far away.

She looked as if all her life had been drained away. Her hair was disheveled, and she swayed precariously, as if a gust of wind could knock her over.

The moment she saw Chen Qing come out, she trembled violently, as if she could no longer hold on.

The next second, she rushed forward and, before Chen Qing could react, hugged him tightly, her arms wrapped around his back with such force that it felt as if she wanted to embed herself into his body. Her suppressed emotions instantly collapsed, and tears streamed down her face, falling onto Chen Qing's shoulder, hot and cold.

She didn't speak, but kept her head down, crying one sob after another. Her sobs were suppressed, trembling, and filled with the exhaustion of surviving a disaster. Every sob tugged at the heartstrings.

Chen Qing froze for a moment when she was hugged, but then immediately reacted and reached out to gently pat her back, again and again, her movements clumsy but tender.

"Okay, okay, I'm fine now, I'm out, don't cry..." His voice was hoarse and tired, but he used all his strength to comfort the person in his arms, "I'm really okay, look, I'm fine, aren't I? Don't be afraid, it's all over."

He gently stroked her hair, soothing her softly, his heart aching with a mix of emotions, filled with heartache. He could imagine how Zhou Yufei must have been, locked up inside while she was alone outside, filled with fear and running around in terror.

Just then, two steady footsteps echoed in the corridor inside the police station.

Li Jing'an, dressed in clean and tidy clothes, appeared calm and composed, gently shaking hands with a police officer. The two exchanged a few words in hushed tones, their tone polite and measured, making it seem like a perfectly normal official meeting.

After letting go, Li Jing'an nodded slightly, turned around, and slowly walked out of the gate.

The sunlight fell on him, highlighting his composed demeanor, creating a stark contrast with the disheveled Chen Qing and the distraught Zhou Yufei beside him.

The moment Chen Qing saw Li Jing'an, his eyes lit up. He quickly and gently pushed Zhou Yufei away from his arms, hastily wiped away her tears, and then strode towards Li Jing'an, his face filled with gratitude and respect.

"Director Li!" His voice was excited, filled with undisguised relief. He grabbed Li Jing'an's hand tightly, bowing repeatedly to express his gratitude. "Thank you! Thank you so much! If it weren't for you, I really don't know what I would have done. You are my savior!"

He thanked them again and again, his voice so sincere it was almost choked with emotion. When he was desperate and everyone avoided him, only this person was willing to lend him a hand and get him out of the police station. He could never repay this kindness in his lifetime.

Seeing his excited expression, Li Jing'an smiled gently and calmly, shook his head slightly, withdrew his hand, and spoke in a calm tone.

"You're welcome."

He glanced slightly to the side, past Chen Qing, and landed on Zhou Yufei behind him, who was still hanging her head and silently shedding tears. His eyes deepened, and he spoke slowly.

"The person you should really thank is not me."

"She's your wife."

Chen Qing was taken aback and subconsciously turned to look at Zhou Yufei.

Li Jing'an sighed softly, his tone tinged with emotion: "Chen Qing, you really have a good wife. She's willing to do anything and endure any hardship for you. You're so lucky to have married her."

Chen Qing felt a warmth in her heart, nodded emphatically, and her eyes also became a little hot.

Looking at Zhou Yufei's haggard appearance, he knew without a doubt that she must have stayed up all night and rushed to beg Li Jing'an early this morning, running around and humbly to ensure his safety today.

The thought of this caused him a sharp pain in his heart, filled with guilt and pity.

"Director Li, you're right." Chen Qing's voice trembled slightly as she looked at Li Jing'an again, her gratitude overflowing. "Now that I'm in such a sorry state, all my colleagues and friends at the factory are avoiding me, afraid of being implicated. Only you are willing to help me without asking for anything in return... I really, really don't know how to repay you."

Li Jing'an waved his hand dismissively, his smile still gentle, appearing open-minded and righteous.

"It was nothing. I'm willing to help you because I think you're not a bad person at heart; you just made a mistake out of momentary confusion, but there's still hope." He paused, his gaze sweeping over Zhou Yufei again, intentionally or unintentionally, his tone becoming more serious, "Don't think about anything else right now. Just remember one thing—cherish your wife. Zhou Yufei is a really good woman."

As he said this, his gaze was fixed on Zhou Yufei's face, carrying an indescribable meaning.

Zhou Yufei froze, immediately lowered her head, and avoided his gaze. Her lips were tightly pressed together, her face expressionless, and she didn't say a word. Only her tears continued to fall uncontrollably, like beads from a broken string.

She dared not look at him, dared not listen to him, and dared not speak.

Every word was like a knife, slowly tearing her heart apart.

Chen Qing was completely oblivious to the strange atmosphere between the two, assuming that his wife was just too aggrieved and tired. He followed Li Jing'an's gaze to Zhou Yufei, nodded vigorously, and spoke with a firm tone.

"Don't worry, I definitely will. When I come back, I will treat her well and never let her suffer any more grievances."

Li Jing'an's lips curled slightly, revealing a meaningful smile.

"Alright, let's not talk about this anymore." He patted Chen Qing's arm, his tone relaxed. "I've already spoken to the company's vehicle fleet and borrowed a jeep to take you back to Huairou. Just so you don't run into any more trouble on the way."

The gratitude on Chen Qing's face froze instantly.

Returning to Huairou...

Those three words were like a bucket of cold water poured over my head and toes.

The thought of Captain Zhang, who constantly made things difficult for him at the construction site in Huairou, and the endless heavy work, scolding, and disdain he received, filled him with dread and even a sense of fear.

He was genuinely scared and really didn't want to go back.

He opened his mouth, his expression hesitant, his eyes showing obvious hesitation and difficulty, but the words stuck in his throat. He was now a criminal, and it was already a great favor that someone was willing to get him out; he had no right to be picky.

Li Jing'an saw through his inner struggle at a glance.

He chuckled softly, his tone resolute, as if he had already arranged everything.

"You don't need to worry or be afraid," Li Jing'an said calmly. "I've already found out everything about how you were harassed and targeted in Huairou. I've already spoken to the people there, and the problem has been resolved."

Chen Qing suddenly looked up, her eyes wide with surprise and delight: "Resolved? Director Li, you... how did you resolve it?"

"You don't need to worry about how it was resolved." Li Jing'an waved his hand gently, not giving him a chance to ask further. "Just go back with peace of mind, work hard, and do your best. No one will deliberately make things difficult for you again."

Chen Qing felt a huge weight lifted from his heart. He was so excited that he didn't know what to say, and could only nod repeatedly.

Li Jing'an said no more and took the lead in walking towards the green Jeep parked not far away. Chen Qing quickly pulled the still silent Zhou Yufei and hurried after him.

The car door opened, and Chen Qing subconsciously sat in the passenger seat, while Zhou Yufei lowered her head and silently sat in the back seat.

Li Jing'an started the car, the engine hummed smoothly, and the three of them slowly drove towards Huairou.
