When he got home, his mother was sitting on the sofa eating sunflower seeds and watching TV, while his father, Lin Jianguo, hadn't come home from get off work yet.

When Zhang Xiulan saw him enter, she patted the seat next to her and told him to sit down, saying there was watermelon in the refrigerator and he could cut it himself.

Lin Feng cut half a watermelon and put it on the coffee table. His mother picked up a piece, took a bite, and put it back. She looked at him and said, "You've been going out a lot lately. Are you dating someone?"

Lin Feng paused for a moment while holding the watermelon, and said, "That's about right."

Zhang Xiulan's eyes lit up, and she pressed for details about which family the girl belonged to, what she looked like, and what she did. Lin Feng gave a vague answer, saying that she was still dating and he would bring her back to see her once he was sure about her.

Zhang Xiulan didn't press for details, only saying that she should know what she was doing and not bully the girl. She also mentioned that her father had been doing well at the parking lot recently and had gained two pounds. Yesterday, he told her that he wanted to invite Sister Yang to his house for a meal.

Lin Feng said okay, he'd arrange it another day.

The two chatted about everyday things for a while, and Lin Feng finished the rest of the watermelon, washed his hands, and went back to his room.

I had just lain down in bed when my phone vibrated.

Zhou Mei sent a message saying that she had boarded the high-speed train and would arrive at Hehai East Station in about an hour.

A blushing emoji followed the message. Lin Feng replied, "I'll pick you up when you arrive," then placed his phone on the bedside table and stared at the ceiling for a while.

Zhou Mei came without warning; they had just talked on the phone yesterday, and she arrived by high-speed train today. He rolled over, the scene from last night flashing through his mind, then sat up, changed into a clean T-shirt, told Zhang Xiulan he was going out to pick up a friend, and went out the door.

There were quite a few people at Hehai East Railway Station. A line of people were waiting at the exit, some holding signs, some holding flowers, and some looking down at their phones.

Lin Feng stood by the railing, his hands in his pockets. Several trains were announced over the loudspeaker, and waves of people poured out of the exit. Then he saw Zhou Mei.

Zhou Mei was dragging a light blue suitcase, wearing a white short-sleeved shirt with the hem tucked into a pair of light blue denim shorts.

Those shorts were incredibly short, the hem just covering the top of the thighs, completely exposing those long, white legs that seemed to reflect light. From the thighs to the knees to the calves, the lines were straight and well-proportioned.

Her skin was already very fair, and it glowed under the station lights. She wore white canvas shoes and her hair was tied in a high ponytail. She looked more like a college student in her early twenties than a thirty-year-old university counselor.

Several men at the exit were staring at her.

A bespectacled boy was holding a sign to pick up Zhou Mei, but his eyes kept following her. The sign was tilted to one side and almost poked the face of the person next to him.

There was also a man in a suit who pretended to look at his phone, but his eyes were glancing upwards, and he didn't even notice that the phone screen had automatically locked.

Zhou Mei scanned the crowd and her face lit up when she saw Lin Feng.

She jogged over, her ponytail swinging behind her head, her long legs striding quickly beneath her light blue denim shorts, her canvas shoes making a crisp sound on the paving stones.

She ran up to Lin Feng, threw her suitcase aside, wrapped her arms around his neck, and clung to him.

"I missed you." Her lips were close to his ear, her voice low and slightly nasal.

Lin Feng's hand slid down her waist and landed on her buttocks. The fabric of her light blue denim shorts was very thin, and the feel of her buttocks was warm and soft in his palm. She was still slightly out of breath from running over, and her chest was rising and falling against his chest.

Several men nearby cast their gazes over, some with envy and others with jealousy. The boy with glasses, who had been standing there, had his mouth agape, and the sign he was holding finally fell to the ground.

"Let's go." Lin Feng took the suitcase from her feet, and Zhou Mei slid off him and took his arm.

The two walked out of the station and hailed a taxi. In the taxi, Zhou Mei sat next to him the whole time, her head resting on his shoulder, her hand on his thigh, and her thumb gently tracing circles on his trousers.

She talked a lot, about her parents, about how her mother had recently become obsessed with square dancing and dragged her father to the park every day, how her father's blood pressure had recently been a bit high and she had forced him to quit smoking, how her mother was still talking about Raymond Lam, and how he should call ahead next time he went so that she could make him braised fish.

Lin Feng listened, occasionally chiming in with a word or two.

The taxi driver was a man in his fifties. He glanced at me several times in the rearview mirror but didn't say anything.

Upon arriving at the entrance of the Zhonghai City residential complex, Lin Feng paid the fare and, dragging his suitcase, went upstairs with Zhou Mei.

There were only the two of them in the elevator, and the floor numbers jumped up one by one. Zhou Mei held his arm, her body pressed against his, her thighs under her super short denim shorts rubbing against his side.

The elevator reached the fifth floor, and the two walked to the door of room 502. Zhou Mei took out her key and opened the door.

As soon as the door closed, Zhou Mei pressed Lin Feng against the door and kissed him.

The kiss was urgent and passionate. She stood on tiptoe, cupped his face in her hands, and held his lower lip with her lips, her tongue probing between his lips.

Lin Feng moved his hand down from her waist to support her buttocks, and lifted her up. Zhou Mei's legs instinctively wrapped around his waist.

Lin Feng carried her through the entryway to the living room and placed her on the sofa. The sofa cushions dented under their combined weight.

Zhou Mei still held onto his neck, refusing to let go, her lips brushing against his jawline as she kissed him down, her tongue lightly touching his Adam's apple.

Lin Feng took a breath, slipped his hand under the hem of her short-sleeved shirt, and moved his fingertips up her lower abdomen.

Just then, Lin Feng pressed her hand down. "Teacher Zhou, I have something to tell you." His voice became steady. Zhou Mei stopped what she was doing, lifted her head from his body, and looked at him.

Lin Feng recounted Fu Yongwei's story from the beginning.

After Zhou Mei slapped him in the classroom, he left the office and was later cornered by several thugs in the alley. He went to find Brother Biao and found out that the person who paid was Fu Yongwei.

Later, he met Sister Hong because of the mahjong parlor incident. When Fu Yongwei was exposed this time, all his scandals were revealed, including drugging, corruption in student recruitment, and harassing female subordinates, all of which were done for him by Sister Hong.

After listening, Zhou Mei sat on the sofa, resting her hands on his chest, and remained silent for a long while.

Her eyes were a little red, her lips moved, then closed again. Then she leaned down and buried her face in Lin Feng's neck.

"You've done so much for me, why didn't you tell me sooner?" Her muffled voice came from Lin Feng's neck.

"I don't want you to worry." Lin Feng gently patted her back with his hand.

Zhou Mei nuzzled against his neck, then looked up at him. Her eyes were indeed red, but they held more emotion than anything else, and something Lin Feng couldn't quite put his finger on—a tenderness, completely unreserved.

She leaned in and kissed Lin Feng's lips, whispering, "I'll listen to you today, I'll listen to you."
