The Secret of the Yoga Club: The Women's Identity is Not Simple
Chapter 145: All Spoken at Once
Nothing goes smoothly these days. Lin Feng has been seeking advice from He Qianwen, whose company is one of the top logistics companies in China.
However, a number of problems followed.
The line in the north of the city was the first to explode.
Old Zhao, He Rui's cousin, was originally the one running the northern part of the city. He didn't go with He Rui the day he left, but his mind was clearly elsewhere.
For three consecutive days, two shipments were delayed, and a batch of building materials sat in the warehouse for an entire morning without anyone loading them.
The client was Hengda Building Materials in the south of the city. The owner, surnamed Sun, was notoriously short-tempered. The call went directly to Lin Feng's cell phone, and he immediately launched into a tirade of abuse.
"Does Shuntong even want to stay in business? My shipment is waiting to be delivered to the construction site, and you've held it up for a whole morning? Who's going to compensate us if we breach the contract?"
Lin Feng apologized on the phone, then called Lao Zhao after hanging up. It rang a few times but no one answered. He called again, but still no one answered.
Kui Zi frowned as he flipped through the shift schedule. "This kid was scheduled for the early shift today, he should have been on duty by eight o'clock. It's 10:30 now, and his car is still in the parking lot, I have no idea where he is."
Lin Feng put his phone in his pocket, stood up, and walked out. "I need to deliver the goods first. I can't keep the customer waiting any longer."
Kui Zi was taken aback. "You're going yourself?"
"Otherwise what?" Lin Feng turned around at the door. "How many people in the fleet can still run large trucks now? Old Qian is handling two lines all by himself, and the rest of the crew are fully booked. If I don't go, this shipment won't get off today."
Hengda's building materials were piled up in half a corner of the warehouse: forty bags of cement, two bundles of rebar, and several boxes of tiles.
Lin Feng and Kui Zi changed into their work clothes and joined the loaders in loading the goods onto the truck. At the end of July, the sun at Hohai Park at ten o'clock in the morning was already so strong that it could soften the asphalt road surface.
There was no air conditioning in the warehouse, only a large fan blowing against the wall, and the air it blew out was all hot.
Lin Feng's T-shirt was soaked through on the back, and beads of sweat rolled down his forehead and dripped onto the cement bag, leaving dark dots.
After loading the goods, he climbed into the driver's seat and started the truck. Trucks are much harder to drive than cars; the steering wheel is heavy, the clutch travel is long, and the gearbox makes a dull clattering sound when shifting gears.
Lin Feng gripped the steering wheel with both hands, his back ramrod straight, his eyes fixed on the road ahead.
Kui Zi sat in the passenger seat, one hand gripping the armrest, the other holding his phone, trying to call Lao Qian. After seven or eight rings with no answer, he hung up and cursed, "Even Lao Qian isn't answering the phone?"
Lin Feng didn't say anything, but stepped on the gas.
The truck rumbled along Chengbei Avenue, the rebar in the cargo box clanging and rattling with each bump.
At noon, the goods arrived at Hengda's construction site. Boss Sun stood at the site entrance, hands on his hips. He paused for several seconds, stunned, when he saw a young man in his early twenties jump out of the driver's seat. Then he looked Lin Feng up and down, his work clothes covered in cement dust. "Are you the person in charge at Shuntong?"
"Yes. Boss Sun, the goods have been delivered. Have someone check them." Lin Feng handed over the delivery slip.
Boss Sun took the order, glanced at Lin Feng, and his tone was much gentler than on the phone. "Where's your Old Zhao? He's usually the one doing all the running errands."
"He had something to do today, so I'll cover for him for the day. From now on, I'll personally oversee this road to ensure there won't be any more problems." Lin Feng wiped the sweat from his face with his sleeve, the cement dust from his sleeve smearing onto his forehead, but he didn't notice.
Looking at him, Boss Sun remained silent for a moment, then nodded. "Alright, that's enough. In business, the worst thing is not being punctual. Since you, the boss, are personally delivering the goods, I've given you face."
After leaving the construction site, Kui Zi called Lao Zhao again. This time, the call finally went through.
"Old Zhao, where are you?" Kui Zi's voice was filled with suppressed anger.
There was a lot of background noise coming from the other end of the phone, like being in a card room.
Old Zhao's voice was muffled as he said he wasn't feeling well and had to take leave. Kui Zi asked him if he had informed him beforehand, and he said he had forgotten.
Kui Zi then asked him if he knew that Hengda had a shipment to deliver today. He said he knew, but he really couldn't get out of bed.
Lin Feng parked the car on the side of the road and took the phone from Kui Zi. "Regarding your absence today, just submit a leave slip later, and we'll let it go this time. But there's one condition—from now on, for any task scheduled on the timetable, regardless of who it is, you must report your absence two hours in advance. If you can't do that, don't bother coming in the future. Understand?"
Old Zhao was silent for a few seconds on the other end of the phone, then gave a vague reply and hung up.
When Lin Feng returned to the parking lot in the afternoon, he had just parked the truck when he saw a group of people standing at the entrance of the lounge.
Old Qian stood at the front, his work clothes were clean and tidy, and he didn't look like he had been driving all morning.
Lin Feng jumped out of the car and walked over. "Brother Qian, why didn't you answer my call this morning?"
Old Qian didn't answer the question. He looked behind Lin Feng and then asked, "Where's Old Zhao?"
"I've taken leave," Lin Feng said.
"Taking leave?" A young driver behind Lao Qian scoffed. "He certainly knows how to avoid taking time off. Mr. Lin, did you personally make a trip to the north of the city this morning?"
"The customer's goods cannot be delayed," Lin Feng said.
There was a few seconds of silence at the entrance to the lounge. Old Qian scratched the back of his head, his lips moved several times, and finally, as if he had made a great decision, he spoke: "President Lin, the brothers have something to say to you."
"Come in and talk." Lin Feng pushed open the door to the lounge.
The lounge was small, with two old sofas and a coffee table against the wall, and several safety helmets and toolboxes piled up in the corner.
About twenty drivers were crammed inside, some sitting, some standing, surrounded by smoke. Lin Feng found an empty seat and gestured for Lao Qian to speak first.
Old Qian didn't sit down. He stood in front of the coffee table, rubbing his hands together, his expression somewhat awkward. "President Lin, about He Rui... we all know. What he did—misusing company vehicles, stealing fuel, and so on—was indeed unethical. But he's worked in the fleet for over ten years, so we're all a bit worried."
The lounge was silent.
Some people looked down at their toes, some secretly glanced at Lao Qian, and some stared straight at Lin Feng, waiting for his reaction.
"So?" Lin Feng's voice was flat.
"So—" Old Qian took a deep breath, "we want to ask, can this new plan actually be fulfilled? You said there's no upper limit to performance bonuses, is it really possible to get that much? Also, will there be more restrictions in the future? Will people be fired at the drop of a hat? Now that we have a new employer, everyone is a little apprehensive."
Lin Feng stood up.
Half a head taller than Lao Qian, he stood in the smoke-filled lounge. His voice wasn't loud, but every word was clearly audible to everyone.
"I'll answer all your questions today."
